What an awesome story. Loved hearing him talk about Little Joe. I raced with him in Lincoln, Neb. in the early 60's.

You raced with Little Joe in the early 60s?! That's completely awesome and interesting. Thanks for sharing that here, Ron. HMM

Little Joe started his racing in Lincoln at Capital Beach, Midwest and Eagle Raceways. All around Lincoln.. Him and his dad had his own car when starting. He also raced at Knoxville, Iowa in his early days . He then moved east to get into USAC and it went from there.

@@ronstewart9792 Understood. I remember watching Little Joe take a nasty tumble on the frontstretch at Knoxville Raceway during practice (got together with Karl Busson who also flipped bad) in about '72 or '73. Thanks Ron...HMM

No open wheeler will ever forget Robbie Stanley or Rich Vogler and each time you go to a race those guys names are on your mind. They were so incredibly talented. The Hoffman Sprint Cars are simply beautiful! They always were and also, so darned fast!

This was an interesting video. I was born in Cincinnati and moved to Florida in 1966 at 15. I now live in Maryland just over an hour from the Eastern Motorsports museum and went there last year. I need to go back as there is just too much racing history to take in with just one visit.

This was awesome! I crave Indy 500 trivia and so that spot about Ziggy and Joe in 1979 qualifying was fantastic. I remember like yesterday, all the technical cheating going on and the USAC/CART controversy. Also, very sad about Rich and Robbie as they were so freaking talented. Rob is an extraordinary man!

I can relate with the deaths I lost a friend Steve Howard in a fiery crash at Lincoln Speedway 1975. Saw him 2 weeks before it at Williams Grove. I still miss him so much. Brought a brick at the Eastern Racing Museum. Can't belive it will be 50 years next year. The Hoffman's story is very special..

@@HistoryMysteryMan Also watched Randy Sweet set the all time track record at Kalamazoo in a super late model that had a billboard of 8' tall plexiglass mounted on the right side of the car. I think he went all over the US setting records on different tracks. We lost a true genius of racing when Randy passed away. It was a sad day.. His power steering components revolutionized racing His rack and pinion system was true genius

I was lucky enough to watch Tony Stewart run the little 500 a few years back and the first time Tony had run the Little 500 and he finished 3rd. The coolest thing was when they came in for a pit stop they plugged in an air line and the posts came down out of that chassis and picked the car up like an indy car. I think that Tony could won it but the 2 cars that have finished first and second for I think the last 6-7 years run V-6 motors. They are lighter and burn 2 cylinders less methonal fuel and they can go a little farther. I don't know if a V6 should be allowed because I am a purist and it should be 410 or 360's V8's only. There might be more V6's than I know about. The cost of engines has gotten just out of control. Peace

@@HistoryMysteryMan LOL many many many nights in the bleachers. I wanted to race sprint cars so bad I could taste it. So I figured that I would run a street stock for a couple of years first. Well at 14 years old my back started hurting. I ended up having scoliosis pretty bad. They wanted to put a stainless steel rod in my back for 3-4 years but that was a no-go with me. I ended up going to a chiropractor 3 days a week for about 4 years. He got me pretty straight and it was hell. So going for a nice 140 mph big air flip was definitely out of the question. Just a good hard hit in a factory stock would do me no good. So I became a Michigan correspondent for Open Wheel and Stock Car Racing magazines and took pictures all over creation and submitted all the time but never got published. You had to have something pretty spectacular to get published pretty much every month. So in November of 1997 3 weeks after my first back surgery online racing was born. I was there the 2nd day and I raced upwards of 75-80 hours a week for about 12 years and a second more destructive injury was when they put me on pain killers. So that totally killed online racing. I couldn't run laps with any consistency and I was a part of about a 55 man club and I went from strong top 10 mostly every league night and the rare but exciting race win because we had 5 guys that were the fastest and they usually fought for the top spots. Well I just started not qualifying and would start shotgun on the field and run until I was just about to get lapped and i pulled off. I moved out to the boonies when my wife grandma died and it just us and the corn. Satellite TV only and the hispeed cable internet stops 7/10 of a mile from my house and they wont bring it down my road because not enough people so its too much money for the Cable company. Well I see there point. They aren't making money..... can't be So sprint cars are so close and I am still getting shafted.

@@HistoryMysteryMan I really haven't even scratched the surface on what is filed away upstairs in my crazy brain. When I started typing one story ends up opening a folder in my brain that has a ton of stuff that hasn't been aired out in years. Do you know who could drive the wheels off a sprint car. Kasey Kahne. He showed up at a 360 race long long ago before nascar and he wore them boys out. I takes a lot to get me to react to a move someone makes on the track but he made me pick my hands up and lean back like I didn't think he could go through all of them cars. Just split them apart. he was really young but really cool
