Born in 1929, Hoffman Auto Racing is the longest, continually operating family race team in American history. A mainstay on the national USAC Sprint Car trail, their story spans five generations. It's not just 'what' they've accomplished, but 'how' they did it...from one of the most interesting backdrops in American motorsports. Enjoy Part 1 of the Hoffman Auto Racing Mini Series, and thanks for your support!

What a parallel; work for a bank and just bought my first Sprint Car ... first time in the seat was lap 1 heat 4, 3 heats later we're in the main feature

Thank you so much for your Hoffman Auto Racing series. I grew up right across the street from them. My father bought his first home from "The Old Timer" Hoffman way back around 1955. The Old Timer even helped with my father on the price as my Dad did all the finish work inside the house. I was always to shy to hang out at the race shop. Looking back, maybe my biggest regret in life. As I am such a gear head. I wanted to be a part of it but couldn't get past my fear. Thankfully, I outgrew my shyness as an adult. I could hear the engines rev as I lay in bed at night as they were doing last-minute tuning before leaving for a race. I even saw a few "road test" as a car would scream past my house being followed by their pick-up truck. Even though I lived so close, I learned more about the Hoffmans from your videos than being their neighbor. lol. Thankfully, I outgrew my shyness as an adult, but too late now. Again, Thank you for the video and story.

I completely empathize with you Scott. My father helped out with Jack Steck's Sprint Car operation in North Dayton. Sheldon Kinser was their driver back then and I was complete awe of the guy. Deep down, I always wanted to race Sprint Cars and compete in the Indy 500. I ended becoming a Combat Pilot in the Air Force but to this day, I regret not hanging with dad more at the shop. I regret not learning the technical side and then working my way into a driver's seat. There's just something about us Germans, that's lures us to automotive machinery and precision. Though I teach Pilots to fly the 737 Max for American Airlines, nothing gets the hair on the back of my neck tingling like the sight and sounds of Sprint Cars.

Thomas Black bought a 360 Robbie Stanley car in, I believe 95, could have been 94 but I'm thinking 95. He rented paragon speedway that year and I'm honored to say I got to drive one of Hoffman's cars. I don't know where that car ever ended up.

I was just wondering...Did Jerry Coons Jr. drive for the Hoffman's at one point? I was friends with his dad Jerry Sr. and knew Jerry Jr. as far back as his dirt track Go Kart days when his was little. They're a great family, 3 generations of racing family and Jerry Jr. has been a regular in the USAC Sprint and Silver Crown Series for many years.
