Human beings are not born with the knowledge of "how to parent." This is evidenced by the number of children killed by their parents each year--it almost equals the 9-11 tragedy in numbers. These academics have been doing research 30 to 40 years of their lives. They are stating the official policy of the Am. Academy of Pediatrics. This is one of the most critical areas where we must remain open to allowing science to help us be better parents.

Human beings are not 'born' with the ability to procreate, it develops with time, as should their brain.

@moondogg55 No they don't. Ask an average parent if they discipline there child and ask them to give you an example, and they'll bring up a punishment be it spanking or whatever. Even if they plan, most people don't understand the concept of discipline in general. People in the army are disciplined, but not because of the punishments involved, it's because of the set of rules and consistent things they have to do and ways they have to carry themselves. That's where the discipline is.

How pretentious, most parents whom plan for their children (i.e. the ability to provide physical needs, time, love, and discipline) know the difference between discipline and punishment. Typical 'holy than thou' academia.
