In 2002 Concepta Film finished a film called "Hofmann's Potion: The Early Years of LSD". Written and directed by Connie
Littlefield and Produced by Kent Martin for the National Film Board of Canada. The documentary delves into the little known
early history of the world's most notorious psychedelic.
Long before Timothy Leary urged a generation to "turn on, tune in and drop out," lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD, was being
used by researchers trying to understand the human mind. This documentary is a fascinating look at the story of "acid" before it
hit the streets.
Featuring interviews with many LSD pioneers, Hofmann's Potion is much more than a simple chronicle of the drug's early days.
With thoughtful interviews, beautiful music and stunning cinematography, it is an invitation to look at LSD, and our world, with
a more open, compassionate mind.

Psychedelics have rid me of 12 long agonising years of crippling depression and anxiety. I tried fifteen different meds, therapy, exercise etc. Nothing worked. Now I trip on mushrooms or LSD once a week/fortnight and I'm now a normal person. Incredible. How can these beautiful drugs be illegal?! It's so frustrating.

It was a very important turning point in my recovery from a morbid, recurrent unipolar depression that had me down for more than 10 years. I wish I could have been able to thank Albert Hofmann for the liberation of my mind! Absolutely the most beautiful and amazing substance ever discovered by humans!

I was always skeptical about trying LSD,but at age 25 I gave it a whirl.... it was the most enlightening expirence of my life, it made me less selfish, more empathetic and alltruistic, and made music sound so beautiful! Its too bad that Tim Leary pushed his luck too far with it.

For what it's worth. Age 19. Having read Aldous Huxley and Tim Leary's 'The Politics of Ecstacy'. I wanted to experience it. Going beyond. 1973 in England was a good place and a good time to try it. An Illuminating, a wonderful trip. Also sometimes scary. Because so new and immediate and strange for the nice middle-class British boy that I was..........Later; dealing it and telling everyone I met how great it was -prison. The cold shower. Society needs functioning individuals, people who can take care of business. And I've done that now for 30 years. Paid my taxes and paid my dues. But now; seeing this documentary, I'd like to once more have a touch, -no, much more than a touch - the full-blown experience of god-consciousness! It's calling me , calling me home. Or should I say to the non-limits of the ultimate -ecstatic - reality. I'll either find or make the necessary molecules.........I salute you all who are on, or have been, or will be on the same path. (The reality trip I call it.)

Mr Kaiser, please be polite in your questions. I meant, if it needs to be spelt out, that when I was young and idealistic, - leaving behind the somewhat selfish hippy trip I was into, to become a contributing member of society. NOT dealing dope, but working, being a teacher and not being a parasite on society. i.e. all of us. I'm 62 now and still working. I'm not a recipient of welfare. Even the most right-wing of the current American candidates - why, even Donald Trump himself ! -for the Republican party couldn't shoot me down. Is that sufficient for you? And finally, I want, yet again, to go beyond the work-a-day world to higher things. Do you reproach me with that?

It is loud and clear that the greatest benefit of the psychedelic experience is to free one of the structures that have been loaded onto their lives. This freedom doesn’t come about when a “guide” is imposing interpretations or suppositions into the experience. Going downstream gets you to reality and comfortable happiness.

These compounds are to be treated with respect. There are plenty of stories of people who were careless and paid an expensive price. I've taken most of the known psychedelic substances as a young person and some more than others. I see all these "positive" blissful posts about the effects of these drugs which can be true. However, you can just as easily experience unpleasantness and fearful state of interpreting things. I've experienced both, I accidentally took 4 doses of blotter thinking it was just one and the experience was unbelievably unbearably intense. I believe these drugs have therapeutic value, although more trials and tests wouldn't hurt. Don't romanticize this stuff it is/can be serious.

@@garyballard3484 yeah been a very long time for me. I'm dealing with depression and thinking about taking on another experience with psylocibin mushrooms due to the data out there. i did psychadelic therapy some years ago when it was still illegal here in the states and even though my life has not been perfect since then it profoundly changed my life on several levels. i also did acid recreationally quite alot as a teen with drug problems in the 80's mostly because it was cheap and available. but i must say as long as no paranoia sets in you can have some amazing experiences on psychadelics. i also went to L.A. zoo on pstchadelics and as a hardcore animal lover to begin with i must say it was profoundly amazing.

Ok, I read all the comments and, really you wouldn’t know we were all talking about the same thing. Here’s my take: I think our mind’s job here on the physical plane is to help us cope. In order to help us cope it has to block a lot of stuff from the conscious part of our mind. LSD, as A. Huxley noted, opens the doors of perception. I had what can best be described as a religious experience but it wasn’t like I thought I was in church with a minister preaching a sermon. LSD can be a real learning experience. I saw that we are all actors on life’s stage - we’re all staring in life’s drama, drama, drama. A word of caution, don’t try and drive your car or motorcycle. Have a trusted person sit with you. When you take the drug,?the blinders come off and you might feel like you are going insane for a period of time. Om!

@RagingCaveman I'll have to disagree with you on that one, as a student of anthropology, I've studied religion and the use of psychedelics, and the links between animism and totemism, in particular the roles they played to pre-Christian pagan spiritualism, as well as Mayan an Aztec culture, most commonly in the form of ayahuasca, is undeniable... During my childhood, time and time again I attempted to follow the major religions...both Christianity (I'm half British) (continuted)
