The other time Carter impersonated a German general was when an undercover Gestapo agent found their tunnel by honey trapping Newkirk. General Carterhime I think they called him that time made a comment about sending a guy to the Russian front and....he giggled. That giggle had me in stitches. It was just the perfect amount of creepy and maliciously gleeful.

Someone commented under a Hogans Heroes video that he and lots of other people that attended that school knew him personally and were richer for it.

I would have like to meet any and all of the cast members but, Larry Hovis was always one of my favorites. I've actually read comments on videos from people that knew him personally. I guess he stopped acting and became a teacher at the college in his home town. They said that he was adored by the entire town and he was just extremely pleasant to be around.

Always remember that the US Military was still segregated in WWII. The Kinchloe character, and the other black "POW'S" were there for the Civil Rights activities for that time. Black POW's were generally abused and murdered when captured .

The scenes in “Hogan’s Hero’s” where they are riding trains or going into town at the Heiserhoph Cafe or when Klink and Hogan went to England were signs of creative brilliance really gave the show depth. Very well written and acted and directed tv show especially considering in was made in the 1960’s!

Did you know it was the first major series to be videotaped? The colour was an extra the producers in S1 were talked into, as the network were stoked on promoting the idea that most of their programming was in colour. 70mm Technicolor was popular with film in cinemas then so they used that palette

Just because they are German, does not make them Nazis. Nazi is a political organization like GOP or Liberals or Communists or Independents. Most that were to join the Nazi movement lived in the big cities. In outskirt villages and towns they were just Germans farming, fishing, hunting, aka living day to day.

The fact that Larry Hovis was never nominated for an Emmy for either his portrayal of this fictional general or the apings of Hitler is subject to criticism. He was brilliant. UPDATE: Looked up the 1970 Emmys. The problem was there was only 3 nominees and Colonel Klink's Werner Kemperer was one of them. With 5 nominees, Larry Hovis has to be considered heavily.

Ha-Ha-Ha!! Carter usually bores me....Unless He's Playing A German General, Then He's Hilarious!! (at one point Klink says that heads will role for these mistakes! At which point 'General Carter' says yes they will. Starting with a very shiny one!) My favorite Carter/German general is the nut job who is 'The Tiger From The Western Front' who's killed 63 men in saber duels. He shows up and challenges Klink to a saber dual over some woman. Klink of course is an absolute coward, but when 'General Carter' leaves after setting the saber dual for the next morning at dawn, Hogan tells Klink "way to stand up to him sir!" And the woman says, "you were magnificent darling!"....Funny Stuff!!

In actuality, the German military had foreign legion divisions with volunteers from over twenty different nations, including from German colonies in Southwest Africa, and many of those legionnaires did serve on the Ostfront during the war, so it was not so unusual as you might think.

Interesting that in an earlier episode, Carter had a horrendous German accent. Then he went on to do the best impersonations of anyone, including the little Corporal himself.

My question is, when Klink informs the guard that Hogan and the others have joined the Wehrmacht, and to fetch uniforms for them, how would they have done that? Stalag-13 is a Luftwaffe (German Air Force) camp; Wehrmacht is German Army. How would the Luftwaffe have uniforms for an entirely different branch in the military?

The Wehrmacht is actually the German armed forces consisting of the Luftwaffe (air force), Kreigsmarine (navy), and Heer (army). Your question is still valid, though. Which branch's uniform would they wear?

Carter impersonation are so classic, Hogan's Hero's is a very classic show and his Hitler impersonation is very funny.
