I was in the dress circle somewhat on the left side. You may have a point because those seats way in the back actually get really good sound in that hall.

perceptions can be different. I was at family circle and I could hear both of them quite well.

I had a good chuckle when he said at the end that he used to sing with the sopranos and discovered his upper register! Precisely what I did at his age! :-)

I love his voice. I saw him at the Met singing in Giulio Cesare and his voice is powerful enough to feel that house.

He has a beautiful head voice/falsetto, it almost sounds like the modal voice of a light counter tenor/coloratura soprano.

I use my head voice for high backup vocals, and my middle voice for lead high notes. They all take place in different places in your throat. He's using his head voice, not his falsetto.
@TCWiseone16 жыл бұрын
though they can sound similar depending on the vocalist if you can make your falsetto range sound somewhat like yr normal singing voice then people notice less when you flip.

My vocal coach keeps telling me that my head voice is falsetto and it really irks me at times. I agree in that you can tell the difference.

could you tell me which school is your teacher from? I think she is really good! Thank you!

he is the best CT as far as I know.
@anotherchann17 жыл бұрын
This in reference to AmatureComposer's comment: "CT use exclusively their head voice, which in men is called "falsetto" (false sound) because head voice is related to women."
@anotherchann17 жыл бұрын
Head voice for males isn't falsetto. They're still distinguishable. Falsetto is a part of the head voice, but thinner. Head voice has a fuller sound.

What does that have to do with the man singing????

most people actually prefer when a guy sings in his falsetto to have a little... hair. Often times when a guy has an airy falsetto they either dont use it enough or they dont practice with it enough to make it have a full sound.
@qw3rtydud317 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is a difference between the head register and falsetto don't be mistaken.
@okebaram15 жыл бұрын
Brian Asawa, when you said you found your falsetto voice... do you really mean your upper/passaggio voice (full-upper/mixed voice), or are you really just singing in FALSETTO on this video?

Most countertenors sing repertoir meant for castrato voices. You're right in that an alto should have more resonance to sound nice but, he shouldn't be going for the sound of a woman's voice because he'll never get there. Maybe if he can recapture something of the purity of a boy's voice, there'll be something to his efforts.
@gammypage17 жыл бұрын
he's not singing in falsetto , connected passagio

Pretty voice though I personally prefer Jaroussky but this is still pleasant.
@jorgeocasio293018 жыл бұрын
They really do. The Met has some bad accoustic places and others that are very good. And also, have in mind that sometimes singers do not sing full voice during dress rehearsals. ;)
@accensus16 жыл бұрын
I know that video. I also know that a ct is basically a baritone with an amazing falsetto.most of the times. I am with a professor who, just as Tetrazzini, Garcia, Lablache, Caruso and other singers have pointed out, is adamant about the register blending with ct voices. it just isn't any.Soprani and alti unite the registers on the fiato. not the ctenors.the true ones.
@antippas18 жыл бұрын
you are completely wrong about that. I saw the same performance and I could barely hear asawa. He's not one of my favorites either. even daniels couldn't really fill the met, but he cam alot closer.

yeah that would irritate me as well. There's no way that they're the same.

No, it's like a falsettist's voice.
@anotherchann16 жыл бұрын
Hmm... I have to say, even if a dude can sing an alto's notes there's a definite sound quality that's different than a real woman's voice. To me, it seems that a woman's voice has more resonance than a male's falsetto, which is often weaker and airy. I suppose you can train to sound like a girl, but most counter tenors just suddenly discover it like this guy.
