AWESOME!!! I've always dove and speared my Hogs, in P.B.County, the Bahamas and the Keys, I've never caught one on a hook. Can you give a little bit more info on rigging such as : what size hook? regular hook or JAP hook? what kind of rig? Your absolutely right these fish are the tastiest fish out there! you can cook them in a lot of different ways. I just like to put them on the grill or oven a sheet of aluminum with a light coating of Olive Oil on both the aluminum and the fillet with a light dusting of salt, close the grill or oven and flip the fillet half way through cooking ( depending on thickness of the meat)

How do you determine what fish to keep to avoid getting ciguatera fish poisoning? They say to avoid barracuda, grouper, red snapper, moray eel, amberjack, parrotfish, hogfish, surgeonfish, kingfish, coral trout, and sea bass.... But we all see fisherman keep some of these species. Is it just a game of roulette basically or is there some sort of rule of thumb I'm missing?

olrednec Yeah there is a huge male every now and then but the grounds is only worth it to me when gas prices are low(which they are) and its a near perfect day which you don't get too many of when you are limited to weekends and holidays.

Thank you for responding, so the government needs to explore the problem I have no problem with protecting fish in the ocean but if they are getting to the point of putting to much pressure on the other fish then we should be able to harvest some of them to maintain a balance let me know if anybody is trying to look into this kind of legislation

Limit of 10 per person?? Hope Mr. Farner hasn't been exercising that. It's been a bag limit of 5 for many, many years now. The hogfish is listed as vulnerable to extinction, with estimated 60% less population in Florida since 1987. Stricter regulations are expected in 2017.

Some of those regs coming out are talking about not allowing you to spearfish them when your diving. I agree with it. They just get slaughtered here in south Florida. Your Capt needs to get his facts right. That's not even close to a black grouper its a gag and is called a gag by everyone and the limit on hogs is 5 per person.

Re-watch the section on the grouper @ 9mins in the video. He clearly states it's a gag and not a true black grouper. But yes, he's wrong on the hogfish limit. Maybe he meant to say 10 for the both of them and it was a simple error. He didn't seem like an idiot to me... give the dude the benefit of the doubt.
