@@gigantomastiaCuddler you mis understand. So you can use either a basic attack or a spell (looks to be patched in an update to work with spells) to activate the glacius talent. This may seem like a good talent, but it's worthless since you want to spend that talent point on something better. The whole point of glacius is to just boost your next spell, so this talent is skippable.

Gonna have to agree to disagree with you on this one...the change to the Glacius talent letting it boost slotted spell damage in addition to basic cast is HUGE. Even if it doesn't make it S tier it's still a solid A tier IMO. Saying it doesn't change the ranking is rather disingenuous since it's biggest drawback in the beginning was that it only worked with basic casts which was why you ranked it so low in the first place. Also the Stupify talent letting you curse enemies you placed at D tier because it doesn't break shields. The only time that applies is when playing the game on hard mode. Otherwise a Protego into a Stupify counter-attack WILL break shields, thus it deserves higher ranking for those who aren't elitist edgelord neckbeards that have to play everything at the highest difficulty level as though it were a Dark Souls game.

Just in case someone doesn't know. Save before you open a trait chest then open if not rank 3 load manual save. Repeat until you get rank 3 you like. Also it will autosave and move your manual save down on the list. Before it gets to the bottom load manual save, re-manual save then repeat. You can do this with all random chests just if its worth it to you. I only have level 3 traits from chests.

How do you know which cheats are trait chests or did you just look it up before opening?

They are all shaped different. The trait chests are usually in camps when you clear them in a tent. It applies for all chests you can reroll non-stop, but they are all shaped differently. I only do it for the wand handles and traits, but I got all level 3 a long time ago, so you know whatevs.

Just finished my second playthrough and I had a few thoughts on some of the talent rankings. 1. Curse Sapper - I found this talent to be super useful as I run around the map fighting every enemy in sight, especially since I'm always low on pots as I hate spending unecessary time in the RoR. 2. Confringo - I personally always felt underwhelmed with this spell since the seeking bolts don't break shields and there are higher damage spells for combos. I agree that this spell has a niche in spreading burns against Inferi/Spiders, but I find using Incedio is just as good if not better in most situations since it interrupts a lot of their attack animations. 3. Disarming Curse and Ancient Magic Throw - I think these talents are heavily underrated as they trivialize the early game which I consider to be the most difficult part. These skills make the first Keeper dungeons really easy and they have decent utility going into late game (curse application and s on the ancient magic throw) 4. Focus Potion - I was really excited to use this potion on my playthrough, but I found it annoying difficult to take advantage of the reduced spell cooldown against large groups of enemies. I found myself getting interrupted in the middle of spell casts and needing to dodge enemy attacks, basically negating a lot of the cooldown reduction from the potion. Next playthrough, I'll definitely try the Edurus potion combined with the Focus Potion to really maximize my ability to spam spells.

That’s basically what I did and you just melt. I use edurus, focus, maxima and thunder brew back to back to back. Spam incendio, confringo, glacius, watch as stuff just melts. I know there’s probably better spells to use damage wise but I went with an elementalist. Accio is def a must too! Highly recommend

Did you try to 100% it or did you just do the base story when you played through? I’m about 80% complete with the game I’ve been taking my time petting every cst doing all the Merlin quests and collecting the field guide pages

The Edurus talent was how I defeated the person at the end of the PS shop quest. Well they took themselves out as each time they tossed their uber spell at me... It bounced back, brought them to their knees and kicked it into the next "phase". Was very funny.

Incendio Mastery is especially useful against Inferi. They can easily surround you and you can use Incendio Mastery to set all of them aflame, push them back, and make them vulnerable in the process.

Excellent detail. Largely agree on your rankings. Didn’t know that about Glacius requiring a basic attack… I guess that explains why it doesn’t seem to do anything for me. Disagree on curse sapper. I thought it was going to be a terrible talent at first but I’ve set up all my combos to basically be curse debuff (flippendo, expelliarmus) + damage spell (confringo, diffendo). This pretty much keeps me topped off at all times and improves QOL. Granted potions are easy to get but imo it’s definitely worth a point considering how many useless talents there are you can skip already

Thank you B Y! I used to rank Curse Sapper really high too. Then I got to the end game and I take so little damage in fights, it just feels like a waste of a talent. I agree there are many useless talents and this one does have its uses, but combined with the fact we also have those potions, I felt it was best used on something else. Appreciate the feedback! Are you sure Glacius requires a basic attack to proc? Idk if it’s a bug on your system or mine? I’m playing on Xbox and all spells proc the shatter AOE and dmg for me. I’ve tested all red, yellow, and purple spells. Even the confringo AOE bolts proc the shatter. Strange? However, I do agree it’s not “core” and probably skip-able. The times I’ve actually seen it utilized outside my test is super rare… Still, might want to go back and retest that one?

Thank you for the video. I misunderstood more than one talent and will do some adjustments in the future - for example, I was convinced Wiggenweld one is a must-take. It's a goddamn crime they didn't implement respec option. Big fan of Maxima, glad to see it so high on the list. Your spell tier list helped me appreciate Depulso even more, by the way. It may be the least consistent spell, but in my eyes, it's the coolest. I have it with Accio, Confringo, and Incendio - to get that extra juicy damage from flaming enemies: an interaction I was not aware of, so thanks for that as well.

Awesome list, learned quite a few new things! One area I would disagree with is that I think it's worth taking one Wiggenweld potion upgrade for quality of life early to mid game. During that time, players generally aren't going to have access to 25 potions or have to spend a ton of time farming and brewing the potions, and they aren't as tanky. It can alleviate lots of frustrations during that time, especially as they are learning the game. I also think the Edurus potion upgrade is worth getting simply for the stagger resistance, so you don't have to worry about blocking/dodging as you unleash on your enemies, which can ultimately improve your DPS by quite a bit

Thanks Sly! I was leaning a bit on the end game no compromises when going over these talents. W/my personal experience playing the game on hard since lvl 1 to 40, I never found myself spamming potions in the heat of the battle as I found the combat to be quite chill. Great points though for those that need a bit more of a boost in the early/mid game. I'd recommend my *ANY* talent template and have those 11 points used on something that will fit their personal playstyle.

I took the Wiggenweld Potion upgrade because I am really bad at dodge roll (either rolling right into the enemy or rolling off cliffs). After my first experience of dungbog and using 5+ potions every time I deal with them, I know it need it real bad.

Mostly agree on everything except your lack of appreciation for protego talents. Two things I want to add is, the diffindo one is a must-have simply because it's quite wide and enemies often walk into it and not having it might ruin your glacius combo. And I'm pretty sure you haven't mentioned the defense potion autodeflects all projectiles back to caster thus making it a no-brain offensive potion against mage groups and crossbow goblins.

Incendio is great when you are surrounded, otherwise not so much due to its limited range. I much prefer Confringo for setting enemies on fire because it doesn't have that limitation. Granted it's a single target only attack and you lose out on the AoE but IMO it's a good tradeoff esp when taking the talent that shoots out enemy seeking projectiles on Confringo casts. Yes you can pull enemies in using Accio to offset that limited range issue, but I much prefer keeping enemies at range because it's a lot more difficult to keep track of what's going on around you when you have a bunch of loyalist warriors or assassins or Ashwinder Animagus enemies in wolf form all up in your grill, and many of their attacks actually briefly enlarge their character models which obstructs your vision of the battlefield even more. The Ashwinder Executioner enemies just LOVE hitting you with Flame or Lightning tornadoes which deal massive damage and if you aren't able to see them charging one up because you are distracted with all the melee enemies, then you can easily be taken down rather quickly because just one cast can bring you down to critical HP, and the goblins that are in your face only have to hit you once or twice while you are stunned and laying on the ground and it's GG. Therefore, Accio and Incendio are NEVER on my active spell slots unless there is a puzzle involving them. I much prefer using Depulso to fling them away from me so I can deal with the casters and melee on MY terms rather than on theirs and take them out at my leisure, and keeping melee at a distance means they aren't dealing damage and thus aren't a threat. I use Glacius and Arresto Momentum as well as Levioso to keep them busy as well so they can't simply charge back in. Transfiguration is used on CD against the biggest immediate threat to create red barrels to fling at my NEXT immediate target that I determine to be the most dangerous at the time, killing two birds with one stone so to speak, and then it's basic casts as filler between CDs and rinse and repeat. I also block/parry/dodge as necessary throughout the fight as well.

Depulso mastery got a cube that was stuck in a cage out for me. Normal depulso wouldn't glitch the cube, but getting that talent saved my ass bro. I unlocked a cage that held a puzzle cube and then realized my gear slots were full - so I went to hogsmeade to sell. When I came back the cage had closed and there was no way to get the cube out. Later in the game I unlocked that talent and tried it when I came back. Took a bit at a weird angle, but I was able to successfully glitch the cube out of the cage with that talent on. Also depulso is the best interrupt in the game - it's another protego if you use it right.

depulso is a good setup for a homing confringo after an upgraded accio and incendio when all 4 are upgraded it becomes a potent 4 piece combo that usually kills 3-4 targets in one go depulso is a key setup in this due to confringo having weird homing up close

Yes very true. Personally in this game I’m not big on having people up close and personal. More chance something goes wrong. Especially with goblins and such. Depulso mastery can clear space and make longer range attacks like confringo much better. To be fair, I never use incendio except when dealing with infieri. Also I’m not big on accio at the highest levels because against multiple enemies it can be very risky to bring them towards you

This is a great list, the only talent I don't agree with you on is Ancient Magic Throw Mastery. Yes at end game it is less useful for sure, but mid to end game it is quite useful as a great many fights don't allow one to thin the ranks with either petrifcus totalus or Accio cheese. I may also lump Wiggenweld Potion Mastery in there also as it makes it so you don't need to chain chug 2 or 3 at a go. Personally I find Flippendo Curse Mastery to be meh, as it is a spell I rarely use anyways and there are many better options for putting /spreading curses out there.

Thanks Roger. I was pretty much using end game as an example for all the Talents. Which makes AMTM a bit less useful. Great early on for sure. Flipendo is low key super op for other combat scenarios where you can't afford to use cruico / imperio as a curse spreader (ie battle arena speed runs).

Great video! Even better with numbers. Glad I agree with most of the stuff. However, I would say the Confrigo Mastery is a little over rated. It helps vs spiders and inferi, just like throwing weapons is effective vs goblins and statues. The talent doesn’t improve the base spell a lot compared to Incendio, improve combos or remove shields. Easy pick and forget talent, as it doesn’t require any thought, but the tracking feels nice. I’d probably choose it again if I ever do a 2nd playthrough, but it’s not S imo.

Incendio also helps vs spiders and inferi, but also has a massively short range. Given the choice as to which fire spell I'd rather use, it's Confringo by a country mile. It's not even close. It will NEVER be advantageous to have an enemy that close to you to the point that casting Incendio would be recommended or preferred even WITH the AoE talent. The lack of shield piercing is irrelevant since unless it's a red one, Incendio doesn't do it either. At the end of the day, you want melee enemies to be far away from you, not close enough for them to hit you. With that strategy in mind, using Confringo is the much better option. Depulso and the yellow control spells keep goblins off of and away from you while you deal with the casters and archers in the meantime, giving you more breathing room and allowing you to time your perfect Protegos and dodges a lot easier without being overwhelmed by everything all at once.

For those who finished the main quest, swift is the best talent for fighting Ranrok because Ranrok range is so big even one basic dodge isn't enough. I've seen many streamers struggle because they don't use swift

I mean at that point you can just spam 5 ancient magic and oneshot him. Tank through everything even on hard with 25 WPs and kill him with no issues. Also, if you die, you respawn with full HP at the stage you died to. Still I use swift dodge A LOT. Good against the stupid Devil's snare - why do Lumos when you can just dash through etc.

I say Protego Expertise belongs in A Tier because when you do a perfect Protego from a Troll Boulder attack it knocks the Troll onto its knee allowing for max crit damage from Diffindo and Incendio

Great video! I only disagree with some of the core talents. For example I find basic cast mastery quite useless, especially if you have all 4 spell sets unlocked. You would have to use basic cast 10 times (which takes about 8-10 seconds) just to reduce the cooldowns by 1 second. It's definetly D tier for me.

Thanks Zslot! Oh for sure. These lists will always be a bit on X persons personal preference. I find the even the 0.5 to 1 second CDR on all spells to be useful since anything to make things go even a bit faster is always high up on my list (speedrunning blood lmao).

@@PlayDohBear Agreed , what you said about preferance is especially true for the core talents since most of them aren't as significant as the others. When one has to choose whether they want to fill a bar of ancient magic every 50 dodges or reduce cooldowns by a fraction of a second then the choice hardly matters. Still it's fun to see how others approach combat differently.

@@zsolt3871 For sure. I actually played around and tested a lot w/those talents on and off etc. I just found that it was more useful for my speedy playstyle to have those talents selected. If you took a look at my ANY talent template, the only ancient magic meter gain I selected was the dodge one since it's more of a habit to a lot of people to just dodge out of enemy attacks. plus, I didn't find the remaining talents all that much better anyways, so might as well get some passive gains lol.

Good video, even if I ended up disagreeing with most of your points. The numbers were very helpful and learning about the tentacular talents effect on the other herbs changed my build slightly. I had one spare point I was going to put into stupify mastery, just because the tentacular attacks so slowly it doesn't seem worth it. Incendio is just too situational to be in S tier, Confirngo is better against spiders and infiri due to them being so spread out at the beginning of combat. Sure you can combo it with Glacius and wipe out lower levels, but only Goblins and Infiri tend to melee swarm you in any numbers that would make the AoE useful. Everything else tends to keep range, even spiders. I still end up taking Incendio, but only because most talents are outright useless (decendo/depluso/glacius) or a red herring, where you think it could be useful, but ends up being superfluous (stupify mastery, curse extender). Having Crucio Mastery makes all of the other curse generators D tier. Why ever cast Flipendo on anything when you can spread curses way faster with Crucio. Maybe if it didn't break shields. I actually ended up taking Revelio because everything else was less useful to me. The only time I would take the curse talents for expelliarmus, arresto momentum or flippendo would be if I played a character that didn't take any of the unforgivables, in order to break shields and spread curses to take them out with transfiguration. But... why? Ancient magic talents also feel like a bit of a mislead. It felt like my meter was always full, from not using it against weaker mobs, or it was empty because the bosses can feel like sponges (lookin at you pensieve guardians). The math then becomes "How many times do I need to dodge to get a single bar of ancient magic" according to the spreadsheet it is 2% (I assume it means 2% of a single bar and not 2% of each bar you have). That means you have to dodge or protego 50 times to get a single bar of ancient magic. I don't want to undersell ancient magic's damage potential, especially on the mini-boss fights. It doesn't seem like you would generate enough ancient magic meter, at the right time, to make these talents worth it. I found the defensive talents (eduras/wiggenweld) moderately useful early on for things like the arcomantula fight, but I don't think anyone will sit here and tell you that it's a difficult game, even on hard. Ultimately, it was still more practical use than I have got from having levioso mastery. Which is more useful than putting a curse on a single target. My must haves are: Spells: Confringo Mastery Transfiguration Mastery Dark Arts: Crucio Mastery Avada Mastery Curse damage spread Core: Dash Spell slots 1, 2 and 3 Stealth: All stealth talents Room of Requirement: All Room of Requirement talents except thunderbrew (which I still take, I just don't think it's as important as the other ones, but I am slowly changing my mind on it) and invisibility. I'm in stealth most of the time already, and it's only an extra 6 seconds.

Thanks deSynq. These Tier Lists are always going to be more fit to my personal playstyle and will have my personal flare to it. This is just what I found was best for me. The main goal of the video like you mentioned was to get the numbers and certain interactions of talents for more folks to be aware of and make their own decision on what they find works for them. Let me tackle some of the points you had here. Incendio: I find myself Accio into Incendioing a LOT in the end game as well as using Swift to get in close to 1 shot mobs all the time. So the Talent upgrade for me is S tier. Crucio Mastery: A lot of the times, the Crucio Mastery to spread curses won't get the enemies that are cross map or spread out (think Battle Arenas) to combo with your Avada Kedavra Mastery. Here, being able to apply a curse with Expel, Flip and Arresto is clutch for those instant Wave Wipes (I do this in my Dark Arts Speedrun if you want to check that out, it's on my Channel). You can also use this strat in the Open World as well in most situations. Revelio: I played with this a lot and found that I could abuse getting on the Broom in 90% of the cases to find things that were way far out. Ancient Magic Talents: Yeah they are not that great, but found it better than the alternatives honestly. It's just passively building meter for you, even if the % numbers are abysmal. Comes in somewhat handy if you don't want to invest in any of the Ancient Magic gain Traits. Honestly, these are all skippable (except the dodge one imo) but I still use them since I don't find any of the other left over talents all that amazing. I just like using Levioso to combo with shit like Bombarda sometimes so I'm keen on that mastery lmao (fits my personal playstyle).

Unpopular opinion: Everything in Dark Arts is skippable. Preferred pruple spel: Accio Preferred yellow spell: Glacius Preferred red spell: Diffindo or Confringo, whichever one I get the tier 3 trait for to drop first. Note how none of these can get buffed to add a cursemark Sure, you can use a secondary combat-oriented spellset with Flippendo, Arresto Momentum, Expelliarmus and Avada Kedavra, and for an investment of six+ talent points it will be almost as effective as just spamming fully upgraded Diffindo/Confringo with potions. That said, Blood Curse and Crucio Mastery can still be a good idea if you want to use Crucio as the 4th spell on that 1st set and get some free spread damage. I'd also skip anything to do with bugged plants, since relying on bugs that will likely be patched is dubious. And I personally avoid Thunderbrew. Not just the talent, but even getting the recipe. That way the hopping pots will give the OP potions (Erdus, Focus, Maxima) more often. And with combat relatively easy, I would never consider skipping quality-of-life talents like Revelio Mastery (or Human Demiguise, which you don't skip but some do). Good point about Glacius Mastery though. I didn't realize how crappy that one was until you pointed it out.

The whole point of this Talent List is to be able to play any playstyle in the game, since they're not refundable for folks not on PC. At this point, who knows if they're even gonna patch the plant bugs. If they do tough, probably when the game launches for older gen consoles. I disagree with the Dark Arts comment. It's not about using AK for one shots or the extra curse damage, but utilizing the curse synergies for map clears with AK or transformation. You can see it all in action on my Battle Arena Speedruns. Great analysis, but now I have questions. Why bother with the curse application talents of arresto, flipendo, expeliarmus if you’re not utilizing curse sapper? Does the extra damage gained by the curse debuff even matter at max level? I would think crucio and imperio mastery is the best method for applying curses on multiple targets. Great content. Thanks Daniel. Good question. It's because of the Avada Kedavra Mastery (all cursed enemies will die to AK). A lot of the times, the Crucio Mastery to spread curses won't get the enemies that are cross map or spread out (think Battle Arenas). To add on to the Imperio Mastery, it's too RNG and slow since enemy AI is really stupid lmao.

The other curse spreaders are really good for setting up combos with the right trait. Stack Unforgivable 3 on gear and pretty much anything cursed gets one shot regardless of the spell. This makes it nice to have Expelliarmus, Arresto, and Flipendo apply curses because you can use them simply to break shield + curse and immediately follow up with another spell, or even just a basic attack or two. Flipendo -> Descendo with that trait and the curse talent does an unreasonable amount of damage reliably and with a short cooldown. Seriously, Unforgivable does so much damage that you don't even need Avada Kedavra except to style on trolls. Even then, Crucio will kill them just as easily with late game damage scaling.

id say the fertiliser talent is an s tier because if u use the what i like to call the herboligy build where u become a monstere making hard mode seem like story mode bvecuase u neeed chinese chomping caabage for this and u need a lot of it and u can only get 12 and if u get herbology 3 trait on all ur leg gear then u dont even need spells u can just spam edures and chiniese chomping cabbages u do need a around 4k in game money for this build but getting all the eye chest in hogsmede dose the trick to get u 5k

Revelio is D is you have played before or are using a guide HOWEVER if it is your first time and you are not using a guide I would move it to C tier because sometimes that extra range in no-fly zones tells you something is in a location you may not have bothered to walk over to so you would miss it. Still not necessary but for new players it is far more useful.

Yes it makes ALL curses last longer, including the cursed state debuff that you inflict on enemies via other spells through their associated talents in the Dark Arts tree...This allows for much more time to get those curses to spread to absolutely everything you are engaged in combat with before you pop off with Avada Kedavra and nuke it all down at once

Evasion works with swift since when we dodge, we always do a normal dodge into a swift. Confringo is also not the worst damaging spell, it's expel. Watch my spells tier list video for more info.

I took both wiggenweld upgrades simply because the game on the hardest difficulty is actually pretty difficult and sure we have 25 slots for wiggenweld but it's a pain to farm horklumps and i have never had enough money to buy wiggenwelds.

So many of these are just so broken make game way too easy. Like edurus potion, avada kedavra, all the talents breaking shields which essentially removes a core element of harder fights. Procing shields Honestly the cabbage might be strongest of them all. If you got the traits to increase damage of plants you dont need any other spell, plant etc. They kill everything by themselves.

This person put all the curse targets talents into B tier except the easiest one to cast and the only one the doesn’t involve using one of your spells. Lol. Putting stunning curse in D tier? That’s crazy. You don’t even have to use a spell, and when paired with the stupify expertise, which this person puts in B tier? Like what? You get damage and curse a target without even casting a spell, and you block an attack all in one go. This person must like taking damage and using wiggeonweld potions a lot instead of protego and stupify. I’ve done 5 play through already and in my all purpose builds I use both of these to combo together, everytime… also incendio? S tier? With the limited range, the only good it does is when you are fighting inferi, otherwise you have to use two to three of your spells just to get one or two enemy’s close and then use incendio. Good content but you might need a couple more play throughs, thank you for your list.

Have you seen my combat world record Speedruns with zero items used? Protego used zero times. It's great early on and such, late game it's just meh. Id rather just kill the enemy vs. waiting for them to attack me to parry. Pretty sure you can call me the combat guru (that sounded cringe lmao). This is my personal end game list of the most optimal way to use the limited talents we have. There are much better talents that ones focused on Protego. IDK if you even watched the full video, but I skip 1 Protego talent lmao. Protego is fine for the early/mid game but late game is outshined by us just being naturally tanky and ofc our spells killing everything in 1 shot. No other enemies are affected by the talent for expel except for goblins after the story, where it disarms the weapon to prime it for an AM throw. Ofc expel works on other mages to disarm their wands etc. Freeze and slice is one of the best combos yee. Watch my spells tier list video for that.
