Thank you! I'm pretty excited about it. Next I need to add smaller twigs and leaves, and of course take care of texturing.

01:43 Something that the PS2/Gamecube version of the Philosopher's Stone game got right actually! Even the walls that surround that area are exactly the same, but in Chamber of Secrets the Greenhouses are not there yet for some reason. Great model! I'm really eager to see your future DH castle.

The first castle had a separate tower for the Gryffindor girls' dorm? I never knew that, but it makes a lot of sense.
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting design choice, isn't it? Especially with there being so many references simply to Gryffindor Tower. But yeah, it certainly makes more sense with the design of the common room set.

If you want to get to know Hogwarts Castle better, then you can download a map for Minecraft: Witchcraft and Wizardry. The castle and its surroundings are very well designed. Hope it helps you. Good luck!

Looks very impressive! I try to stick with primary sources, so to speak - I enjoy other fan interpretations for inspiration, if not for actual reference.

Great content! I am making my own hogwarts in Source2 to be used in RP servers for an upcoming game called S&box. I thought I took good care in making everything as accurate as possible, but you're going one step beyond! I was wondering if you have run into any difficulties in fitting interiors into the castle? I am working on the interior of the great hall, and it seems that the windows don't match with the exterior side windows of the building. The entrance hall doesn't seem to have any elevation, but it seems the interior of the great hall needs to be elevated for the windows to make sense. Did they actually design the interiors and exteriors to fit together? The Hospital wing and the rest of the clocktower seem to fit pretty well. Keep up the great work!
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
Oh, the interiors don't fit at all. Locally, some areas are fairly close, but overall, the interiors are just their own thing. I haven't bothered at all with the interiors beyond the most basic forms necessary for the castle's windows to look right. (Plus occasional side projects like the moving stairs, but those are always done separately.)

Hey! You've missed a terraced area near the bottom right of the quad 0:40. Heres some pics from the COS flyover and from Studio model. imgur.com/WwsOJE4 imgur.com/PuqYHn8 Looks like the design has changed at some point. It used to wrap around the tower but by HBP it terminates in a door on the tower. Hope thats useful! PS. You can even see a bit of fiber optic cable sticking out of the merlon where the brazier used to be xD
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That's a known gap in the model so far...I feel reasonably confident in my understanding of that part, but there's an additional terrace or something that it connects with around the corner, and I've never found any photos of that.

@@hogwarts4d662 Yeah that always been the dark side of the moon as far as the castle is concerned, especially for early castle sections. There is this bit in GOF though which might be it. It looks to high up to me, but it lower than the supention brige entrance should be as that bits roof is meant to be level with the top the the small viaduct. Anyway good luck with the poject it looks great! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoetpoerfpuYidk

When might we see a version later than PoA? I'm excited to see things like the two versions of the viaduct courtyard, as well as the relocated viaduct itself.
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
I can't give an actual timeframe, but it's definitely getting closer! The first three are nearly complete as far as the castle architecture goes. I may want to tackle the landscape before moving on, though - in part because I'll need the landscape for the fan film I'm helping with.
@ender72783 жыл бұрын
@@hogwarts4d662 We'll that's good to hear! How much landscape will you be including and based on what shots? Is the landscape internally consistent within the individual films?
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
@@ender7278 I'd like to have an environment that looks "complete" for each castle. Every film has inconsistent shots, but the areas closest to the castle are usually pretty consistent within each film. My two goals will be to capture the miniature for each film (relatively straightforward) and to capture the broader imagined reality of the whole lake and environs (much more subjective and inconsistent). But I'll do my best!
@ConotorProductions3 жыл бұрын
Awesome as always. How’d you get that photogrammetry of the pitch? What stills did you use to build it? Are you using reality capture or mesh room to reconstruct?
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
Just frames from the very beginning of the match in COS. I'm using Meshroom...maybe someday I'll upgrade to RC!
@ConotorProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@hogwarts4d662 Wow I can't believe meshroom does that decent of a job with just the frames from the movie. Really cool stuff!
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
@@ConotorProductions yeah I was super excited the first time I tried one of those and it worked! You get better results taking your own crisp, high-resolution photos from all the angles you need, but you can still pull some decent data from the film frames.
@dandbfilms80223 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if I just can't find it amongst the blog posts, but could you give a simple top down map view of each version of the castle with labeled rooms/buildings to the best of your knowledge using your model? Or could you provide some links to the blueprints you used for the castle?
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
I haven't put together anything of that nature yet, though I plan to do so when the whole project is done. As for the blueprints, I would honestly just Google "Hogwarts blueprints". The main ones out there are for SS, HBP, and DH.
@Jiskpirate3 жыл бұрын
Fun tour! Amazing what you can do with photogrammetry. I was wondering how you were able to get the measurements and placements of the structures.
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
I always start with technical drawings if possible - any plans, elevations, or cross sections I can find. You get better precision that way. But photogrammetry is the next best thing when no blueprints are available!
@dorememe85482 жыл бұрын
Since places like Alnwick Castle and Durham Cathedral are real-world locations that people can visit and photograph, do you think that such photographs may someday be used to make an even more photorealistic render of the interior and/or exterior of HP1's Hogwarts?
@hogwarts4d6622 жыл бұрын
You could use photographic textures, sure! The trouble is that the look of the real locations doesn't exactly match the miniature, and of course many areas don't correspond to real locations. In any case, my priority with my texturing is flexibility - I want it to adapt to whatever I build without too much manual finessing. It's not the way I'd handle a smaller project where photorealism is a higher priority, but it works for my purposes.
@dorememe85482 жыл бұрын
@@hogwarts4d662 Whatever the case is, you're doing amazing work! Thanks again for making all this stuff!

Which Side of Hogwarts Castle is the Third Floor Corridor located?
@hogwarts4d6623 жыл бұрын
The films don't give any explicit canonical location, but the scene was filmed in the upper levels of Durham Cathedral, in the area that Hogwarts aficionados would describe as the Long Gallery overlooking the Transfiguration courtyard.
@tarathompson95063 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the third floor corridor was located in the Grand Staircase Tower. but when they get to the third floor from there the third floor corridor looks like the cathedral hallway. That means its in the viaduct towers! or the Bell Towers!
