Engineer company is not just about entrenchment. They add attack bonuses in cities, rivers and movement bonus I think. They are a must in any division

Yea but tanks already have huge penaltees to attacking those areas engineers could help with, like moutains, rivers or woods and engineers only remove like 6% of a 40% penaltee which seems pointless to me

@@dustinl796 Ignore what bonuses or pentalties are already in place. Just look at the engineers as an isolated thing. If they add (or rather, reduce the penalties) 6% effectiveness in a certain terrain, that's HUGE for a 40w division. A 6% increase is huge, hence why engineers are a must as germany.

Here's the problem though, penalties and bonuses stack each other in Hearts of Iron 4, that means if you attack his own and you have a bonus of 10% attack then your general goes another plus 15% what he gives at 15% to the 10% almost tripling the attack bonuses. Because bonuses stack like that once countries get involved in Wars there's five or six different modifiers normally which came boost defense from as little as 300 all the way up to a thousand and soft attack can be pulled down all the way from 800 to 200. When it's that different 6% really doesn't make much of a difference

Well actually you're not supposed to produce every single one of these templates, these are just variety of templates I like to use for different situations for people to write down and copy and use in their own situations they would like to try to when width. Normally though I'll make two or three lines of different equipment with only one or two military factories on them so there is a ton of production efficiency helping make a lot of weapons

@@ChuddAnon africa is very special place, it is vast and it is low on supplies. So you must keep consumption low (below 2 per division) or use logistic companies and there are many attrition zones like deserts or mountains so you need maintenance support to keep your tanks alive( or do upgrade of reliability with army exp). Mediums and heavy are not for africa... Ideal would be mix of motorized and lights (you need speed to cover much land, and cavalry eats more than Moto). I im using template of: 5 Moto, 1 MotoArt, 3 light tanks +Art support, Engineers, Recon, Maintenance. (Support and line and Moto artilleries gets alot bonuses from Superior Firepower doctrine) Italy cant produce much tanks or SP Art due to low industry capacity and giving away much resources for naval production.

Hey! I have a question: You said that you went with Mobile Infantry because most of the tanks would be heavy and such having a low amount of organisation but I can see that you only use Mediums even tho you said they were mainly "heavy".

I usually go for a medium tank build as Germany, but how about incorporating light SPAA in motorized divisions? You get a lot of light tanks from France and Czechoslovakia, which means that they can easily be converted to SPAA. Tons of soft attack and a bit of armor, which means that you will require the enemy to have some sort of AT.

I started to find you don't lose as many tanks if you have air superiority and keep from getting attrition. My segestions for this i just learned, stick 15 factories on fighters at the start, this means you will have to take some of rifles but it seems the air superiority means a whole lot in saving my tanks. Logistics companies and if you have a government position for logistics that helps a ton. After this im still learning the logistics and can only give a basics, but keep your logistics lines rebuilt and construction on logistics is the next main thing this comes from your capital and because of this you have to build the path from capital too your troops, now in the logistics screen you can also construct logistics this does it on a more broad basis, other then that i can not tell you what way is better im still trying to find out myself. Personally i feel building a strong highway seems to work but at the same time this doesnt max out the logistics from the logistics zone.

i usually use 10 width cavarly for resistace, 20 width infantry for garrison, 20 width with Arty and AT for Africa, 20 width Marines for invasions (sending in tanks and such afterwards) 40 width tanks 10 tanks 5 Arty/AT/AA tanks 5 motorized/mechanized and 40 width infantry with some arty and AT

Just remember these few things and you are golden. -Infantry and motorized for organization -artillery for soft attack -AA for air attack, some hard attack, and decent piercing -AT for hard attack, and piercing -Tanks for armor and breakthrough -do not make too many tank divisions! Even the USA and Soviet union cannot keep up production for an entire frontline of tank divisions, stick with infantry for your main units.

So I’ve seen videos of Germany using heavy tanks instead of mediums, usually around mid 42-43 as far as I can tell. Is there merit to switching? Usually I just stick with mediums cause Germany gets the research bonuses anyways, but is it worth it to switch to heavies?

Well it depends. Usually if you can take out Yugoslavia before Italy or Italy in multiplayer agrees to do trade backs for the Chrome that you will need produced the Heavies sometimes it's worth it. They also do cost a lot more production to make a full 40 with division which is why I'm most Germany's stick with medium tanks because they're already trading for the tungsten and they don't want to have to make trades for the Chrome as well

for north africa campaign, for any country, I would recommend some 20w infantry with logistic+recon+engineer 4 anti-tank batallions, 8 inf battalions. This is very tough division in the low supply north africa region against enemy tank divisions. It has very good low suply usage, high defensiviness, high org, high hard attack, high piercing. This division is also able to directly attack isolated enemy tank divisions unlike some 10w cheap defensive at division. I would not use support AT in low supply regions for divisions, if I remember correctly support AT has less hard attack per supply usage, compared to regular AT battalions.

Engineers are actually quite important as they provide a buff when attacking forts, over rivers or cities. It's not so much about the entrenchment or defense they provide as it is about buffs to your attacking power. Edit: also, I think TDs are pretty useless. Normal tanks are usually enough. The only time TDs make sense is when the SU/American player goes for HTs. Especially HT3 which could boost a division's armor to over 60-70 (off the top of my head, might be wrong).

I don't exactly agree with that, they do provide a buff when attacking forts or Rivers however it's only usually four to 8%, so you're attacking a hill which gives you a negative 40% bonus and then have a engineer company remove 6% of the penalty you just lost 40 extra soft tack you could have had with a support rocket artillery an exchange from going from a 40% debuff to a 36% debuff

Sure, Engineers don't have that good stats, but the ygfive you % defence and offence buffs for certain terrains. Forts for example - 25 % def, 10 % attack or so. So.. don't dismiss their offensive capabilities only because of flat stats.

That percentage is only after you have the 3rd engineer I'm pretty sure and realistically tanks shouldn't be attacking forts or Hills. If they're attacking somewhere where there's already a negative 50% penalty removing 25% off of -50% doesn't really help that much

Can you do guides for minor nations like hungary, romania, etc. that are important in MP. I know that hungary is for example quite important for airwar but I dont really know how to play nations like that.

This was extremely helpful, thank you. I have a few questions: 1. You didn't talk about breakthrough very much. I would have thought it was the most important stat for a tank division, but is that incorrect? 2. If adding the armour from SP Art. or a medium tank is good on a motorised division, are half-tracks useful? 3. Does AA give you sufficient piercing to be valuable in an infantry Division, or is AT necessary? 4. I didn't quite understand the role of the AT divisions. Are they to be interspersed on your frontline? Japanese templates would be particularly interesting to me, but I'm looking forward to the whole series

As for your first question breakthrough is nice to have as it reduces the casualties and damage to your organization when attacking, it more acts as a defense when on the offense if you will and just reduces damaged Oregon casualties. So it is an important stat however having a lot of attacking power if you can support the losses usually works out better. Then for the second question it's more based on your production, if you have a ton of motorized and artillery already in reserve in your stockpile then it might be just easier to deploy those out compared to building self-propelled artillery which cost two or three times more, for the third question AA will only pierce light tanks and that's only to an extent as well. If you're going up against mediums or heavy tanks you're definitely going to need anti-tank guns instead of AA as the piercing on AA will just not be enough. Then for the last question 80 divisions are more supposed to be stacked behind the front line on defense, for example if you have a bunch of 20 with infantry divisions in your army and they're all deployed against the Soviet front in multiplayer have your anti-tank guns in a different army or even division and just make extra front lines in places where they might try to push you like Open Fields, Plains, certain urban areas. Pretty much the idea is just too Center them around your vulnerable points where they may try to use tanks to push or if you're quick enough you might be able to have them try to race the enemy tank divisions to certain points and counter them in the spot. And yes I am planning on making templates for Japan in a day or two but tomorrow is the US

1.breakthrough is important , but thats just defence parametr for attacking side, it counters soft and hard attack and does nothing with enemy defence. Attack Soft and Hard that what deals with enemy defence. 2. Half-tracks? you mean mechanized? Yes it is useful, gives more piercing ,hardness, armor and attack but it raises production costs for division. 3. Yes if you keep it upgraded. but Anti-tank has more Hard attack (and a bit more soft) so it will be more effective against tank divisions even with the same piercing. But You can go without Anti-tank if you have 2 AA divisions in template or Support AA+1 AA division. 4. Mostly it is a Weapon against tanks for INF divisions, it is cheap, and consumes not much supplies (twice less then line Art)

@@dustinl796 about piercing and artillery...Could you test something for me? Lately i did beat soviets in single player with INF only. I used 6inf+3 Art +art support recon and engineers , without any AT or AA. Firstly i thought that fighting tank divisions would be hard but their strength was dying fast (org was affected slightly)...So i suppose that Hard attack could be more important than Piercing? Or it is just very bad AI divisions?

A cool meta is to only produce light tanks, and do anything you can to improve movement speed and organization. I just played a normal game and built 200 light tanks and they go VERY fast. If you have 200 light tank divisions on the soviet front line, their front line will be shredded and you push through without any defence taking all their cities

Engineer company gives you movement bonuses and help you with attack against forts and i think if you research next upgrades you get bonuses when going throught river

They can but normally i just go around moutains, forts or rivers. Most plains and flat zones are either just beside or near those areas and can easily be bypassed

I am planning on doing the majority of the countries in Hearts of Iron 4. Next up is the United States followed by probably Italy or the Soviets, not really entirely sure yet but definitely I'm going to try to get it for at least all majors including China

Does using light tanks 3 instead of medium tanks as a minor nation make sense in singleplayer? Since your production is not that great and having shit tone of light tanks in stock until you get the decent production could it be useful?

It could but later on if anybody has anti-tank weapons in there division template you will lose tons of light tanks and sometimes not even be able to push them

I can't mix artillery's and infantry in the same columns as you do. I have no DLC at all but I can only pick one type of unit per column, please help!

For the last Mot division, make them 6 MOT/MECH 1 MT and 2 Med SPG. It's pretty much faster harder and more expensive space marine. Though i take it that SPGs may trigger people to use of space marine, but the cost you face to build them makes it balanced. And for space marines, I think people are salty that they can' go around their opponent's strategy. Use ATs or TDs to prevent their advance. They are there for a reason.

So what's the best strategy if your (soviet) opponent goes really heavy on Anti-Tank (towed) in his infantry divisions? Use heavy tanks and upgrade their armor so you hopefully can't get pierced? Or one tank, a bunch of motorized and a bunch of self propelled artillery (like the one template towards the end of your video) ? Or just rely on infantry?

If they do something like that you pretty much stuck with having to be on the defensive otherwise your tanks are just absolutely shredded. Going off the piercing stats or a really good idea but also heart attack comes in to play with that and can cause some serious damage to your tank divisions. If that's the situation where they can't be pierced with your tanks and they have enough Auntie tank Davis to go against yours then try to either get air superiority and use Cass to damage their tanks whenever you attack or if that doesn't work you're stuck with having to put a lot of antitank in your divisions along with artillery to push

They can but I don't really like to do that, but just simply researching the mechanized technology you add a 100% hardness bonus to your infantry, if you want to actually swap them out the defense and breakthrough usually go up at most by double but the big issue is they cost around four times as much than motorized, so twice the power at four times the cost

If you are the use heavy tanks, just use cavalry. They both go the same speed which is slightly higher than infantry.

What ends up happening if you use mechanized is you get double the stats normally for breakthrough, defense, and a little bit more soft attack but the problem is for getting twice the stats they're four times the cost of motorized. So you're paying four times more for twice the stats which I don't personally like, just by researching the first mechanized technology though your infantry get a 100% hardness buff

@@dustinl796 I understand that but if you look at it logistically you said in a video that you enjoy using (mot) inf, and using those Ina a lot of your templates makes a more stress on the supply, saying you have 122 Mot divs, with a second 20 panzer divisions of med or even heavy, using mot on them, is lowering the proper use of the quick pace of the Ural trucks and also instead the stress of supplies, and if your struggling yo produce gear, of all types u will struggle, with keeping your troops at a decent strength.. Lowering the effectiveness of your troops over all, splitting your forces over different layouts adds a diverse army that is overall more effective I usually stay with the base panzer temp, and trade the mot for the use of mech, to allow the supply grace to less bottle necked of a low income of ressuply from lost equipment

Well largely Hearts of Iron 4 is more based on people specific strategies. One person can say one thing works in the other person says it doesn't work for them but ask for production and resources I feel like motorized is best because no matter what you're still going to have to make it for your support companies even with mechanized

Dustin why did you not use mechanized in your late tank divisions also blitzkrieg is wayyyy better than mob. Infantry. And I think instead of the 7I 2A infantry divs you should use 14I 4A. 3 stacks of those will help u invade the soviets easily.

In multiplayer nobody really uses mechanized, they will research it to give bonuses to the hardness of the motorized infantry but that's as far as it normally goes. They usually cost two to three times more than basic motorized what are only slightly better than motorized. A lot of people agree that it's just pointless to produce it instead of motorized unless you have just a bunch of extra production to waste oh, it also dramatically increases the defense and breakthrough which during a tank division being on the offense should only be concerned with the Breakthrough which is already very high

You're not really expected to build every single one of these templates which is why I specified situations they would work in, for example tank divisions with a lot of soft attack are great for attacking infantry, tank divisions with actual High armor stats are good for going up against other tank divisions and infantry with anti-tank weapons. Really you're supposed to just kind of pick and choose which one is templates work for you and your specific situation. One thing you can also do is if you want to re-watch the video with a notepad beside you and write down the division templates and use them later on

They dont help enough, only increases like 4-8% normally and to me getting 30 more soft attack is better than 20 def and -6% off a -40% moutain

My biggest problem with designing my templates is I don’t know if a particular value is rather high or rather low. For example, 30 breakthrough; is that a lot? 80 soft attack; is that too low? As far as I know I can look at other nation’s templates (excluding subjects and expeditionary forces) so I don’t know what I’m going up against.

I'm going to give you a pretty good tip on designing templates, for organization if a unit is on the offense it needs to be at least 30 organization, if it's on the defense the higher organization and defense the better. Breakthrough basically defends the organization of your unit attacking since if your unit runs out of organization it stops attacking or if it's defending gets routed, over time the numbers will increase the matter what but think of it like this. Soft attack is for attacking infantry, hard attack is for attacking tanks along with piercing, organization is how long you can fight, breakthrough is defending your organization while you're attacking. I've got a bunch of different country template guides in a playlist if you want to check those out on my channel and look at the ones for defense and offense and those will give you ideas of values :-) good luck

In this meta you need to send general to other countrys in war, usualy the earlys ones like spain/china... You can send resources for then too, and send troops there both air and foot infantry. All this stuff will give you a lot of Army XP, before path 1.9.1 we can do the 1 division strategy but this was nerfed... now the max you can do is this but usualy works... And if you go in like one war you can do a lot of this templates. Remember also you dont need all of them, he just show you a bunch of them and explain why, when and how use it, just depends on your game which one of those you will made.

For armored I always go 2 medium tank, 2 light tank in early game, and replace one of the light tanks with heavy tiger tanks to attack the Soviets. If the war goes on I swap out the last light tank with another medium tank. Armored SP and antitank divisions are totally unnecessary in single player. Your main infantry template is good up to 1941, but 40 width infantry templates are much better to attack the Soviet Union. I use 12 infantry, 3 artillery, 2 antitank, 1 anti air and, depending on the fuel situation, 1 tank destroyer. This is the German Heer historical template of 17-18000 men as described by Albert Speer. I also use 20 dedicated artillery divisions grouped with my infantry divisions to attack Russia (4 infantry, 4 artillery, 1 rocket with support artillery, support antitank, engineers, recon, hospital and logistics.)

Oh. What I like to do is motorized and armored divisions are put under one General, then one single type of template I'll put under a general and use them as necessary. So for example I would have all my antitank infantry under one General then all of my main infantry divisions under another one and I signed them all to field Marshals

10 infantry and engineer company to use as a main front line troop. as many basic tanks as you can get while adding in motorized to keep your organization at a minimum of 30. hoi is a complex game tho so these wont work all the time but can help you get the hang of it

Can't break the French lines. Using the Main Infantry, and in one province is 2 Dutch Infantry divisions, and a French Tank, and French mobile infantry division, against 12 of the Main Infantry divisions. Didn't even make a dent in the Allied province. All of my divisions are supplied. Though they do have Air superiority, all the divisions have Anti-Air, so why won't my troops break the Allies lines. Can't even capitulate Belgium or Netherlands. I have plenty of military factories, and though I only have 125 troops, I'll need 200 more just to defeat the Dutch infantry. Edit: I even tried getting Medium take divisions to break their lines. Absolutely nothing, barely even took down their organization. Is the A.I. just a Super Computer or am I just an idiot?

Instead of writing them down something else you could do is right click your desktop and go to text document. That way whenever you play Hearts of Iron 4 you can just alt-tab out really quick instead of having to keep track of a piece of paper :-) also glad you enjoyed it. Thanks

Is actually several ways to increase your division count but the important thing to remember is unlike in real life having way more divisions doesn't mean you're going to win. Hearts of Iron 4 single player to make the game more balanced the AI is given several bonuses only it can detect or use that help with things like production or Manpower because people used to complain that it was too easy to beat. Does simply get your division count up you can make very cheap infantry divisions they could hold the line with say just 5 infantry battalions or five infantry in the template with an engineer company and those can be used in huge amounts to hold front lines. Normally players also have a pretty large industry if they've been playing the game for a while like a lot of people have been that are in the multiplayer community. Like for example I can't think of a game in recent memory that as Germany before invading the Soviet Union in multiplayer where the Soviets have had less than a hundred and fifty civilian factories and a hundred military factories and as Germany I had 200 civilian factories in about the same amount of military factories

Why's there's so many templates you only need 4 templates.40 width Tank, 20width infantry, mp and 40width soft attack infantry

Actually in multiplayer you usually need dedicated templates to breakthrough dedicated troops, in most multiplayer games for example as the Soviet Union I will have a lot of anti-tank infantry divisions stacked up in a few of the places on the border where there are no mountains and instead just Plains, when I put those divisions in those areas the Germans may still push through however they will lose usually between 500 to 800 tanks per tile

Could be but tanks shouldnt attack over rivers or forts anyway unless its africa and el alimne.
