They are empty, with only basic info like manpower, wich was set to 1 in all states (ill change dat later) and state category there are no buildings in my state files, i filled thr weather, hubs and raiways files, but when i try to do the buildings file, by clicking in random all states, or random selected state, it just crashes, can u help?

That's a video with very small viewer base because of how specific it is, the idea here is to learn the basic and then take those skills to start experimenting and creating the more complex content how YOU want to make it. Because something like this will be created differently each time it is created and there is no one "right" way for me to show how to create something like that.

this went awful when i did it a few months ago, but now i'm better and i've made my own province for it, so, in advance let's hope it works edit: hmm it's not as bad but still not fully functional, i did what u said at the end but it crashes anyway edit2: NEVERMIND! it was an issue with a custom province i made for it not having an assigned continent. i sorted it out, thx for the tutorial :)

dude i was modding new states. i did everything right. error log was clean. and if i were to load and play my old save games with the mod, it was working (when i click the new states it was crashing). but i couldn’t play. I hope this will be it

so the state i created basically covered other states, and when i launch hoi4, it says "[14:14:00][state.cpp:681]: Error: Province with id: 1591 is already added to state "STATE_835" ( with id: 835 ), adding it to state "Alma-Ata" ( with id: 586) and thus overriding first state. Looking back at your video, my nudge tool will create a new state with its history file but it would not appear in the game immediately unlike yours. Do I have to manually add the history file into the mod and restart the game?

Great stuff! One question: by creating a new state a city is going to be created automaticially, with a name of the state. How to delete/rename those?

Hi, I would like to ask about specific thing about states - Impassable terrain. I have found some file that modify impassable terrain and from which to which location should be impassable move divisions ("adjacencies" in map folder) but simple specify locations doesn't work. Could you please introduce how to make impassable terrain? Much appreciated. Otherwise: great work :)

I have an issue where the provences names and you know all the stuff are switch sides, like for example New texas is where the "normal" Texas is and that Texas is in New Texas. It's a bit confusing, but can you still help?

Hi, great vid as usual, I still have learned literally everything about modding this game from this series, but I was wondering if anyone had an answer to this one problem I'm having. When I created the new state, my game would insta-crash unless I played the USA, does any one know why it's only working if I am playing as the country that owns the state? It's been a while since this video but I'm encountering a problem and perhaps you can help me, so it's worth giving it a try. I've been trying to mod Rhodesia as a separate country with its own states (Mashonaland, Matabeleland, Victoria) but I keep getting this error: [10:49:17][state.cpp:682]: Error: Province with id: 7842 is already added to state "Rhodesia" ( with id: 545 ), adding it to state "Victoria" ( with id: 910) and thus overriding first state. I have one such error for each of the three states of course. Initially I only had the one country and relative .txt file with all provinces being in one state, which worked fine but limited construction. So I decided to create separate states, gave them the right provinces with the Nudge, and now I'm left with three separate .txt files plus the original one which encompasses all previous provinces. I have removed the original .txt but that did not fix the issue. I suppose that's because Rhodesia also exists in the base game, so the game just picks that file from the game directory, checks it against my new states, and can't choose which one to use. I also tried leaving the .txt in there but removing the provinces, but that still does not fix the issue. I understand the issue here is that I can't leave ID 545 empty, but I can't keep it as it is either since that means it overrides the new states. Do you have any ideas how this can be fixed? EDIT: Just to be clear, the game does work. I can launch the game, go to the map, select Rhodesia as a country, and build on the new states instead of building on one single state. But every time the game launches I get the warning that it might crash, so I would like to solve that.

If anyone finds that the localisation of all their states is broken, the state and strategic region localisation files made by the nudge tool are slightly different from the main folder ones, i can only assume due to an update. If you go into your new file and delete the '-1' at the end of any state or region it appears (e.g. STATE_58_DEN:-1 "Holsten" would become STATE_58_DEN: "Holsten"), the file should work fine. I would have assumed that the game needs a 0 in its place, but the base game file doesn't have it. It seems to mainly be an issue with states that have that _TAG at the end, which i assume denotes alternate names for states.

I'm having trouble making a new state. It keeps returning: Bitmap and province definition disagree on whether or not province 5 is coastal. Bitmap adjacency result will be prefered. This goes on for almost every province. I assume this is maybe to due with the fact that in this new map I am making, I've just made one ocean state for the time being, which I will later expanding into more ocean states. I don't think the game is recognizing it's an ocean though, even though I define it as such; 82;0;74;112;sea;true;ocean;0 Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I tried to create a state just like you did it in the video, but my attempt just ended with the game crashing on me. Do you got any idea why this might happen? Edit : The game crashed since i used letters like Ø and Ä while creating states. I made it work by creating the states first with mock names, then assigning the real names later.

OK so I've been working on a mod for a while now, I watched your old tutorial video about 2 or 3 months ago when I started. Everything was working great until I added music to the game, and the mod started crashing. I assumed the music was causing the issue so I removed it and it kept crashing - the nudge tool also crashed immediately, I couldn't even get it open. Nothing worked, so I reinstalled the game and after that it allowed me to open the nudge tool, but still gave me errors. I've figured out that it appears to be something wrong with my state file (or something connected to that file), which is weird because it worked fine before I added the music files. It appears that not one, but all the custom states I've added so far do not work. I tried using the nudge tool, but it crashes if I try to click the state or building button. I'd really not like to have to delete all my state folders, as I've already made several hundred.

Was editing a state that came with a mod, get a crash while loading every time. Have tried to edit the state files into as many places as a can, but the crash logs keep ending with the same error every time: "Could not open file: history/states/999-Brazza.txt, error: not found" Any fix?

I am struggling deeply. The error codes for my game include, "[22:53:59][no_game_date][state.cpp:686]: Error: Province with id: 12720 is already added to state "Karlsbad" ( with id: 940 ), adding it to state "New Mexico" ( with id: 376) and thus overriding first state." And the thing is, province 12720 isn't in state 376, I've checked the file atleast a dozen times. I don't quite know whats happening.

hey so i've made a state and everything is working fine except for one thing which is making the game crash outside of debug mode: i have made a state which has every province of the state washington, vancouver and haida island. as a result, i get the errors "no provinces in state "Washington" with id: 386." and then it repeats for the other 2 states. they have no provinces because i don't want them to exist, so how do i fix this?

The game keeps crashing when I change the owner of a state in XSM to PRC, saying no provinces are assigned, even though the game files check out as having them assigned to that province. Is there anything different I have to do for china cause of the Japan occupation in the 1939 start?

So, I created almost exactly the same state as you did in this tutorial. Only difference is I applied it to my custom country (independent Texas) and had a few less provinces in it. I keep getting the error “unexpected token: history, near line: 6” in file: “history/states/909-South Texas.txt” near line: 18 I checked the code and it looks almost exactly like yours (again, barring a few of the province numbers since I used less). Anyway, my new state is coming up as unclaimed land and is not a part of my country. What am I doing wrong?

I have a problem : every time I create a new state, some airports and rocket sites always disappear (always the same), and I am forced to add them manually again. It wouldn't be a problem if I added only some states, but I try to make dozens of them to allow more realistic frontiers in terms of geography, ethnicity and history. Does someone know what to do for the rocket sites and airports not to disappear?

i still followed your instructions about the fixing the failed to load map error i went to ''This PC'' , ''Documents'' ''Paradox Interactive'' ''HOI4'' i then deleted the map folder and the history folder i deactivated all my mods, even the ones that dont contain a map i tried going into -debug mode in the hoi4 shortcut and none of them work i tried different combinations of these solutions too such as debug mode and starting hoi4 with the deleted folders, etc still doesnt work please help.

Everything was going well, until i clicked on create state, then the game just crashed, idk why. And the 2nd thing is that when i want to create a focus, then sometimes it workes, but sometimes it just deleting half of the focustree, and sometimes it adds the 1 focus and sometimes it doesnt. So, i've encountered a problem, which i couldn't fix by deleting the following folders, the error.log simply doesnt recognizes the states, saying that they havent got any provinces, that provinces haven't got any parent states, that states haven't got any categories, and so on, also, what does the "unexpected token near line x" means?

I Have A Problem With The Nudge, I was watching this video following along, but also messing around with it at the same time, I did fix what I was messing around with. But I forgot to fix Beijing, The State. Which I Split with East Hebei and Hebei, I put Beijing Back On the Map, But For Some Reason, I Can't Get Achievements now, because I Was Screwing Around with Beijing, Anybody Know How To Fix This?

Alright, having a legit issue now. I’m getting the nudge error, but there’s no history file in my main Hoi4 to delete. There’s a map folder, but just deleting that doesn’t work. The only thing thats worked so far is deleting the states folder out of my mod history folder, which sucks, cuz it means I have to restart from near scratch. Help, I’m at a brick wall and can’t continue with creating my mod.

Followed these steps to the letter. I was trying to make a new state for the Old World Blues mod in one of the "unoccupied wasteland" states. Did everything right, but can't fix "failed to load map" error and crash

Redo the "Random In State" and the "Validate In State", in the nudge tool. I had the same problem and re-did that and it now works.

I’m having issues! I’m trying to create new states for Sweden and I follow the video step by step. But yet when I launch the game it crashes while loading! What confuses me is that the error report doesn’t just point out a few things like no people living in state but sais things like unexpected token and invalid effect about every single line on every file! so i just made a map for sweden where i add all the läns, the issues i had is that i forgot to change victory points, which made it crash. And i get aluminum errors when i try to add them to any state. but other than that it does work now. the people in state is mostly about adding manpower, and such.

Im having an issue at 10:00 area, like i didnt get no new mod folder so i made one myself, i cut and pasted the other folders in but when i looked into the history folder, every single state was in it!

I fixed it. I had copy pasted files from the steam->steamapps->common->Hearts of Iron IV and then you get all states but its located in Paradox Interactive ->Hearts of Iron IV. Just copy back the old files and paste the ones in Paradox-Hoi4
