Thanks so much for this. No one would help me get started with modding, but this video actually let me finally create a civic I've always dreamed of. Something that really lets a standard biological empire go all-in on robots and have demographics similar to a Rogue Servitor. I created a simple "automated utopia" civic that gives -40% bio growth and +40% robot growth. Amazing!

Stop using WinRAR. 7zip is free (winrar is "limitless trial version"), will never ask you to register, it also has better compression, and supports the rar format. You do not need WinRAR for anything.

how do you reset everything in debug mode? i tried doing stuff and loaded the game and it crashed. i reboot the game and it says the map failed to load. i removed everything i made and it still didnt work. all of the states names are broken

whenever i try the steam workshop version it just does vanilla hoi4 and when i try the unpublished one it works just fine. i have gotten no help and many people have the same unanswered problem. Because of this, Im screwed. PLEASE. HELP. ME

deleting the history and map folders messes up state names in the vanilla game, dont do it if you dont know how to undo it

Great advice for anyone who tries to get into modding and is massively annoyed by always having to open the game in debug mode to update the focus tree: Download "Visual Studio Code" (freeware). VSC is a codespace (a space to code in), basically a text editor that also allows you to "run" the code to attain additional information (mainly if the code is running at all). Well, there is a hoi4 extention for VSC, that has a few very useful utilities: One of them beeing a representation of the focus tree IN THE PROGRAM. So you no longer have to open the game and wait for half an eternity to check if the tree looks good, OR if it is working at all! VSC gives often times gives useful information if you've forgotten a bracket or something like that. You can still use Notepad++ to write your mod, just use VSC to check from time to time.

Everything was going well, until i clicked on create state, then the game just crashed, idk why. And the 2nd thing is that when i want to create a focus, then sometimes it workes, but sometimes it just deleting half of the focustree, and sometimes it adds the 1 focus and sometimes it doesnt. Pls help meeee 😢

Tried to use GIMP to edit the province BMP file. Game crashes every time on load-up. But paint works just fine....

If anyone finds that the localisation of all their states is broken, the state and strategic region localisation files made by the nudge tool are slightly different from the main folder ones, i can only assume due to an update. If you go into your new file and delete the '-1' at the end of any state or region it appears (e.g. STATE_58_DEN:-1 "Holsten" would become STATE_58_DEN: "Holsten"), the file should work fine. I would have assumed that the game needs a 0 in its place, but the base game file doesn't have it. It seems to mainly be an issue with states that have that _TAG at the end, which i assume denotes alternate names for states.
