As a Brit. I love playing the Empire. Imperial Federation is my favourite course to go down. Just a quick point. Edward ended up being kicked out to the Bahamas cause of his sympathising for Mr Hitler and his ideology. And Wallis was a two times divorcee. She wasn’t liked by the public. Unlike George VI and his wife Elizabeth, yes the Queen Mother who were beloved by the people.

The naval training was amusing. The USN has their Fleet problems for training. The Royal Navy used to kick everyone out of the Mediterranean, for its wargames. It was the Med Fleet versus the Atlantic Fleet. No holds barred. Ships were often damaged. The RN Destroyer force was that aggressive. Many times there were collisions causing a lot of damage from close manoeuvring. So, the RN basically said "Go play somewhere else" to the French and Italian navies for a month.

I've always wondered why Northern Ireland remained loyal for so long. Do you consider yourselves very different from the people in the Irish Republic? I'm just curious. However, the English decided that the best way of sorting this problem was to send Scottish settlers to live in Ulster, and over time, the size of people who would identify as british grew to be just over the majority of people Later, in 1916, the Easter Rising happened in Dublin, which led to the fighting between Irish Nationalists and England, which was "Solved" in 1920 and 1921 with the two peace agreements That was till the mid-late 1960s when the 30-year period in Northern Ireland's history of conflict known as the Troubles, which was fighting between the Irish Republicans in Northern Ireland who formed the paramilitary group the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and British Loyalists who formed groups like the UVF (Ulster Volenteer Force), ending in 1998 with the Belfast or Good-Friday Agreement. So basically, Northern Ireland has people who would identify as Irish and those who would identify as British. The rate of Irish identifying has increased, but they don't wish for reformation just yet cause the South or Republic of Ireland cannot financially support Northern Ireland That's the basic synopsis. Of course, I'm skiming over things like the British Army being stationed in Northern Ireland, Bloody Sunday, and a few other things, but that's basically the deal with N.I.

It's not that it was scandalous among the British establishment per say, more that it went against his role of Supreme Governor of the Church of England, which meant he couldn't marry a divorcee. It was opposed by the Church, which meant that they refused to give him a coronation. The Church was still considerably influential at the time as well, so it was off with the King.

So I was trying for a nwo achievement run, and thinking about the best major for the job. It’s none of the historical axis powers, to start with. Italy and Japan for somewhat obvious reasons, and not Germany because while you can do a rather successful allies victory quickly by early sealioning, and taking out America and the ussr separately, you still sort of lack that starting global power projection via colonies, navy and pertinent territory. Plus, taking one of the allied nations and going fascist not only adds a fascist power, but removes a power from the opposition, effectively doubling the effect. So we’re realistically left with two options: the UK and the US. Now I initially believed that the US would be the way to go, considering how there are few things as powerful in hoi4 than a player-led usa, on top of it being annoying to invade the us, so I figured it’d be easiest to just cut out the middleman and not have to invade them by playing them. But, the truly biggest factor that I haven’t really mentioned in getting this achievement done as painlessly as possible (still painful mind you) is time. And unfortunately the usa takes way too long to get rolling by going down the fascist path. You can’t realistically doing much until late into the game, and you want to be at least two or three majors down by 1942, or else you’re gonna be playing until 1950. So I turned to the UK. They’re leagues better. No required civil war, and you can easily turn fascist by early 37, and with clever planning (you should be pregaming for this achievement, every bit helps) you can secure all of the dominions without war in the same year. Follow that up with a france kill into a usa kill (the earlier the better, dont let the giant wake!), then go to war with japan, and spend a few years using the fascist just. wargoal time bonus to get all of the neutral/uninvolved minors (and I mean everyone, all of north/south america, africa, asia, middle east, europe, *everyone* this will save you YEARS in the long run) in the japanese faction, before going for any kind of kill (you needn’t worry abt invasion, you have the french, american, and british fleet along with access to 80% of the worlds oil at this point, they aren’t getting through you). In the meanwhile I took out the axis for the land (plus just less unpredictable ai, y’know?) before moving onto the ussr (collabs are your friend for all of this btw). After double checking you have the whole world in japans faction, you can declare on china, kill japan, and then kill china. Bam, achievement get. On a similar note, in my run, i did the imperial federation to get cores on the dominions, including the us bc of the option to make canada a North American confederation beforehand. But ON TOP OF THAT, idk how, but I was given the option to form the EU as a fascist nation in vanilla hoi4. So I formed it. So at the end of the game, I had cores on 5 of the 7 STARTING MAJORS (except japan and russia)! Plus all the dominions! I wasn’t even a major that starts with EU option! Needless to say, it’s probably teetering on some of the most cores any nation can get within “reasonable” limit (this is 1000 times better than a completely successful french union for example, and it isn’t soul-crushingly boring/slow/ineffective as things like anarchist spain)

The reason Edward VIII abdicated was because he knew Baldwin would resign from his role of Prime Minister if Edward married Willis, and since Edward wanted to be as politically neutral as possible, he didn't want his personal life to affect how the country is run. Which it would've if Baldwin resigned.
