I've had it for a little over a year now and still love it. It's the best piece of equipment I own. The pull up bar is definitely usable with 9ft ceilings. Just make sure there isn't a light or ceiling fan above it.

Overall I felt they were both great machines, but there were a couple major reasons why I chose the Hoist. The #1 reason was the fact that the Hoist can still act as a real free weight rack, and you can use any barbell wanted to. You can't do that on the Jones since the whole rack moves with the built-in bar. My #2 reason was what you had mentioned. The bar movement just felt better and more smooth.

I really haven't found anything bad about it yet. It's been perfect so far. The pulleys are extremely smooth. Just make sure you have adequate space for it, and that you don't have a ceiling fan above the area where you plan to put it. With 8ft ceilings, it comes within inches of the ceiling. Also, make sure you get the HF-4165 because it's a much better bench than the PTS-164.

@Steedlaw The bar is supposed to be 45lb but I've never tried to weigh it though. It might have felt a bit lighter for you because you don't have to balance it

As for the assembly, I have no opinion on that since I paid extra for delivery and installation. Two guys carried it up my stairs and installed it within 45 minutes or so, and it seemed like they had no trouble all. About the racks, i feel that they aren't too close together and I have plenty of room to do bench presses, rows, squats, etc without banging the bar into anything. You get used to the dimensions of the rack real quick, and after a couple workouts you dont think about it anymore.

Looking at one of these second hand. I noticed that there was a little bit of lateral movement (just a little). Is that normal or could the bearings be shot?

Hi a few questions if I may... 1. Did you ever try the Bodycraft Jones Smith machine? If so any comments on this vs the Bodycraft Jones? I've read this one is smoother. 2. How hard was the assembly? Can 2 people carry everything down to the basement and assemble it? 3. The 2 weight racks seem kinda close to each other do you ever bang the bar between them or is there plenty of room between them to do any free motion exercies? (The Bodycraft crack moves with the bar) Thanks!

One thing I forgot to mention is the optional bench attachments. The preacher curl attachment is ok, but the leg curl/extension attachment isn't that great and I wouldn't recommend it. When doing leg curls, there's nothing to stop you from going too far and having the weights land on your butt. I don't like having that in the back of my mind as i'm trying to concentrate on my reps.
