The only thing I woud point out is the line is "never say we die" and not "never shall we die". The Chinese sailor in Singapore in the movie speaks the line as Emma Swan gets out of the boat, then mentions tht it is a dangerous song to be singing. Old sailors never die, they merely retire to Fiddlers Green. Apart from that, the song is the best one Voiceplay has done so far. Keep going guys, we love it, you never fail to go one better every time you do a new song.
@maeco73 жыл бұрын
@@Tryst46 The official lyrics actually say "never shall we die", though!
@Tryst463 жыл бұрын
@@maeco7 It could be a mistake that the editors of the movie missed then. I would think that using the word "say" sounds more likely, pirates would never have regarded themselves as thieves or beggars. Also, as I said above, they never die, they simply retire to Fiddlers Green, the sailors idea of heaven. A place where the fiddle never stops, the dancers never tire and the Rum and Tobacco never run out.

Can we just talk for a minute about that amazing scene transition with Layne’s cutlass?? It’s that level of attention to detail that blows me away. Other cool details that captivated me: -the flick of the head with the vocal percussive “HEY” -everyone subtlety swaying for a few measures -lighting that looks like lightning -everyone taking a turn spiking the camera, which was very effective at evoking emotion in me and connection and drawing me in -VP brands on hands/arms Now the musical stuff. Eli’s powerhouse gritty vocals literally blow me back in my seat. Just when you think you’ve seen everything Eli has to offer…he offers more. Geoff’s two-octave jump UP rather than down was an incredible surprise (3:02) and although the subharmonics are fantastic and just what the song needs, that C2 on “shall” gives me shivers each and every time (1:00, 2:59). Cesar’s intensity and grit (2:57) show his great versatility (for a great example, contrast his texture and timbre and demeanour in “Butter” compared to this song. WOW.) Geoff, I think this is one of the most impressive arrangements you have ever done. You have an uncanny ability to take us on amazing emotional journeys with your re-inventions and I will forever be in awe of your arranging talent.

I love how different it is from many other renditions of this song, some of the key shifts are *chef's kiss*. But secondly, I love how the production came together. Jose gives off the captain vibe standing in the middle, Cesar's outfit/makeup is AWESOME and you can see him being a first mate. Geoff is like the intimidating rower. Layne and Eli look like straight baddies on their last stretch of sanity. What did I just watch. . . . . The trio singer (Eli, Jose, Cesar) kills the melody, that smooth blend when they sung together was just so mesmerizing. Ofcourse, who could forget about Geoff doing stuff that are very confusing on how he does it, he sounds very atmospheric which is as a bass because you don't want singing low that the sound will not surrounds the space around you, making it hard to hear. And lastly, Layne, I still don't know how he manages to keep the flow going because its hard as the percussion to make this compliment without overpowering someone, but still he got it very precise. This is why I love VoicePlay so much😊😊😊

This arrangement gives me chills to the bones. In a good way, that is. I've always loved this song since Pirates came out and these guys just made it such an experience! They went above and beyond to make it their own. By now I shouldn't be surprised that they surprise me with every release... But this one really had me going crazy when listening to it for the first time on Patreon! It has rumbles, it takes you places and it makes your hairs stand up. It's so good!! Lets also mention the set that looks so good!! Makes me want to be there. Love the details these guys always put into it and the dedication they have to giving us such an experience. The outfits are to die for, by the way! Specially Cesar, yours is amazing and I want!!!

Add to that your incredible original arrangements and the ever evolving lighting and video editing and you guys are absolutely astoudning. I only discovered you a couple of months ago but you have now taken our four of the top ten spots on my Spotify. My kids say I am obsessed but your Halo cover even got their attention. I can't wait to see what you do next.

This is, without a doubt, the most epic, most amazing arrangement of this song I've ever heard. I've been in love with this song since At World's End came out, and your performance of this song blew my mind. I've never had a favorite VoicePlay song...until now. Thank you for this masterpiece! 💗

The arrangement is incredible. I've watched this many times on Patreon and I'll watch this hundreds more times. I had goosebumps for all 4 minutes, especially at 0:17, 0:28 (the glance:)), 0:33, 0:46, 0:53, 1:03 (of course), 1:45 (when it goes like C-Adim7-Bbm (?)), 2:20 (my favourite moment, the combination of loud Eli's voice and those quiet thirds. oh. my. god), 2:31, 2:37, 2:59; 3:05, 3:26, 3:32, 3:39 (of course).:) Each voice is like an important character of the story that is playing his unique role, and at the same time together they are so harmonious and magical. With your acting in the video and this light it's absolutely breathtaking. Thank you so much for the masterpiece! P.S. Cesar's look is amazing. З.Ы. And Geoff's and Layne's parts (1:37-2:30, 3:06-3:26, 3:34-3:39) making it all dynamic, but measured. Like sailing across an ocean at night under dark clouds. Calm before a terrible storm that the ship is aiming for. And those mystical and epic higher parts. I. Love. This. Arrangement. So much. I used to think at school, "Why do music teachers use so many adjectives and emotional words to describe pieces? It's weird!" Now I feel you, music teachers. I'm not sure if all my words are correct, I just translated them literally.:D

I cannot get over how many times I am in awe of Geoff’s arranging style! It really is telling the story and as you go along, you go through almost all the parts. The beginning, rising action, climax, falling action and the ending. I always am in a state of awe with his talent. Not only does he makes it look fun, but he also keeps to the areas of focus. Keeps the audience interested and makes all the stops. 2:34 always, always gets me. Unexpected yet, incredibly good! And Eli? Fantastic choice for lead. The harmonies? I cannot get enough of. Costumes, makeup, everything! An overall astounding job and makes me appreciate the hard work all of you go through!

The king and his men Stole the queen from her bed And bound her in her bones The seas be ours And by the powers Where we will, we'll roam Yo, ho, all together Hoist the colours high Heave ho, thieves and beggars Never shall we die Some men have died And some are alive And others sail on the sea - With the keys to the cage... And the Devil to pay We lay to Fiddler's Green! The bell has been raised From it's watery grave... Do you hear it's sepulchral tone? We are a call to all Pay head the squall And turn your sail toward home!

By far, the BEST version of Hoist the Colors I’ve ever heard. This was a 11/10 in quality of vocals, images, and harmonies all throughout the video.
