Just subscribed, just ran a BQ age 53/4 after 10 years of not wanting it enough…..love your content…knowledgeable, walk the talk running buddy chat! I use the Hoka Carbon X as my daily. The carbon plate supports the toe box much better, the foam is spongy/durable - this shoe (for me) was ideal to recover from a high arch/long toe problem i always had with recurrent tendonitis as my mileage went up, always costing me 3-10 days recovery at the wrong time…..recovered on these shoes, never had it since despite going from a 50-55 mile peak to a 76 mile peak and more 20+ milers on my BQ set this year. ALSO - i used to run a 10 EE (wide) Adrenaline….this is a rare carbon plate option that has. A stretchy upper, so worked well form me with chubby feet =often limited choice => Finally a carbon plate option for me with good cushioning. BONUS - while a higher price point, the plate means the shoe lasts 100+ miles longer. DOUBLE BONUS….paired really well with the springy, light Rocket X for my last long run and race!

Hey man, keep it up! I stumbled on this channel, and I feel like it's criminal the @kofuzi is acting like this is an unbiased review. I see that you like his content, so just want to point out to you that they are essentially paying him, and he does not want to ruin his relationship with them, making this review completely null and void. And it irritates me that he does that disclaimer to make it seem like he's unbiased by "putting it all out there", but it's actually misleading, because he should say "I'm paid by Hoka, I won't give them a 100% negative review bc I value my relationship with them." @kofuzi

Kofuzi's point about the shoe not being something he'd wear for a marathon is valid, for him. For me, I've done marathons in traditional racing flats and it worked out fine, so this shoe should work for me. I appreciate Mike giving such an honest review.

Full peba plus carbon plate plus lighter than shoes like the NB SC Elite v4 - how is it not a supershoe?!
@thomasmichaels6850 Жыл бұрын
I'm a Hoka guy the last four plus years, but am considering other options. I'm an older runner(65), and would like a racer with some cushion to it for 5K, 10K, and half marathon distance. Your saying the foam is denser, makes me think twice about trying this shoe, especially at $250. I have the Rocket X, and while it's super light, my legs and feet take a beating in it. Maybe carbon plated shoes just aren't made for guys like me at this stage of life. I'm not slow, but obviously not fast like when I was 22, and weighing 140 pounds either. Maybe racing in Mach5's is the way to go , at least for me.
@ianbarnett5051 Жыл бұрын
I'm a similar age to you but I wouldn't recommend the Mach 5 if you're after cushion. I much prefer the Rincon which is far more cushioned than the Mach, v.light and stable. I find the Mach 5 far too firm underfoot for my liking.
@Martha-fluterunner Жыл бұрын
If you’re mostly racing 5K, 10K and HM max, as. 71 yr old female I highly recommend the adidas Takumi Sen 8, now discounted since v9 has been released. Even at full price it’s a great value. Someone light weight like myself could easily do a HM in them. I only use them for races after having tested them first of course. If it’s not enough shoe for HM, get v8 for the shorter races (v9 is almost identical according to all reviews) and consider the Saucony Endorphin Pro3 for HM if you can find a colorway that’s discounted. Some people claim they already have found it discounted here and there. It’s the first carbon plated race shoe that I’m going to be using on a marathon. It’s very bouncy and cushioned and people are using it for all distances. Try it on in a local running store. My independent running store I visit when in San Diego has a “club discount” so I got 20% off even right after it was released.
@thomasmichaels6850 Жыл бұрын
@@Martha-fluterunner thanks for the info . I've seen most of the Kofuzi reviews, and the Takumi Sen and Endorphin 3 Speed or Pro are on my list of must try shoes. I like to buy previous model year to save a bundle, don't necessarily need to have the latest and greatest. I lived in San Diego my whole life until 2019 and a move to the east coast(MD) . San Diego has such great weather and a huge running community. Local running scene here is very dedicated, though small by big city standards. 71 and still racing, that's very inspiring. Keep it up!
@midorisperandeo2897 Жыл бұрын
@@Martha-fluterunner I love the takumi sen for shorter distances but I disagree with the various opinions out there that the saucony pro 3 are "soft and bouncy". I think they are OK, very comfortable on foot, but much more of a hard, firm feel compared to something like the vaporfly or the takumi sen (takumi sen hard to compare since its a totally different shoe really).
@Martha-fluterunner Жыл бұрын
I guess we all agree it certainly looks nice--beautiful colors! For Brooks naysayers, don’t discount the Hyperion Max. The Hyperion Tempo has been a phenomenal shoe and I think the Max is even better. They are race-worthy at least up to HM for those who don’t get along with carbon plates or super soft high stack max cushion. For me either one has a place in a rotation at the very least, provided you don’t mind experiencing some ground feel (not a bad idea for your biomechanics at least some of the time). The midsoles are on the firmer side of the spectrum at first but really open up and are a load of fun doing speed-work or just faster miles in general. They perform well at any pace and I believe having a very diverse rotation of shoes has kept me uninjured.

Interesting! I was buying Hoka shoes for a few years and really enjoyed running in the original Rocket X (enough to have 2 pairs of them) but wouldn’t claim they made the slightest difference to my running even with the plate. Since then I’ve switched back to Adidas (always used to buy Adidas prior to my Hoka spell) and as good as the Rocket X2 looks, I don’t think it’s going to tear me away from my Adios Pro 3 and Prime X Strung duo that I’m liking a lot. Hoka needed to release these 6 months ago

@@andrewstearns9276 Fair, but if this is their direction, that's a good sign for all of running and Hoka fans (assuming they keep progressing). I think the original Hoka Rocket X has the most fluid feel at marathon pace of any shoe. But, one run on winter road , with small gravel they lay out here on ice , completely destroyed the foam part of the outsole. And small stones and sand get stuck into the sole, right up to the carbon plate. Was wondering my shoe had manufacturing fault. So destroyed after 2-3 runs.

This is a revolutionary shoe, better responsiveness than the Vaporfly3. There is a forefoot sweet spot that really responds. You won't feel it at marathon pace, unless you're elite. Super upper with good lockdown. I'm a long sprinter and use it for intervals on the track. The Adidas Takumi Sen 9 is also very responsive and better than the Vaporfly3 and is the same weight, super light, almost an oz less than the Rocket X2. I don't know why anyone would buy the Adidas SLs since they have the same stack as the Adidas Takumi Sen 9 but are almost 2 oz lighter?

Had great step in feel and bouncy and cushy but these shoes aren’t for me I think. Gives me cuboid pain on both my feet, not sure why and outsole wearing out super quick on me. I realize they are race shoes but I can’t see them lasting even a marathon for me. I see too much visible wear on the outsole in less than 15 miles. Probably something personal with my feet, but these disappointed me because they initially felt so good putting them on, but later also felt sluggish for me more than likely because I’m used to 8-10mm drop in most of my other shoes. I’ll reserve these for tempo days and I don’t think the outsole will last one month for me - and then I’ll end up throwing them out. Also had Clifton 9’s which also had outsoles that died on me super prematurely; threw those out a couple days ago as well after less than 30 miles. I think this was my last Hoka purchase. French company - Hoka indeed feels like the Renaults of running shoes, imao. Oh well…

However this review of Rocket X2 would be more useful if you compared it with the other marathon racing shoes, which you do already have extensive experience with.

HOKA'S seem to be designed to last max 300 miles.

What are you talking about? I have Rincon 3 on 650km, Carbon X2 on 550km, Clifton 8 on 600 km. All of them are still going strong.

@@piotr8582 depends on how much you weigh to be honest. My Clifton 8s were pretty dead at 400 miles.

My Bondis are knocking on 500’s door. I’m currently well over 200#s.

You say that like it’s a low number.

@@kofuzi for the number they ask? I’m looking for a long term relationship! 😂 just a few years ago we all enjoyed the 130-150 tops shoes… now we’re about doubling that. Hard to imagine but at the same time not. It’s the reality we live with these days. So far Hokas and a few New Balance models have been the brands that provide me with longevity vs price.

Who’s buying your Hoka’s? Mom and Dad! Grow up and buy your own shoes. First, get a job or two! Good afternoon!
