I buy Hokas for comfort and to avoid foot pain. When they fall apart, I just buy again. Only Hoka for me after testing so many other brands.

I have 320 miles on a pair of Speedgoat 5s. I think they are good for at least another 100….I really like them, I use a pair of “ dirty girl gaiters “ in the warmer times when not using regular gaiters. I have zero trail debris using the d g g ……I hike in the Olympic Mountains/ hurricane ridge area and the speedboats are awesome.

On my third pair of SG 5's. The first pair went over 400 miles. I was really happy with that. The second pair the upper fell apart at 29 miles! My third pair currently have 171 miles and they are falling apart. I guess I got lucky with the first pair. Out of the seven pairs of SG 4's two of them went to 500 miles and a few others in the 400 range. And of course, one that was done at 230 miles. Hoka seems to have a quality issue. Some are good and some are garbage. I keep buying them because they are so comfortable.

Agree on the comfort. 🤞 I get closer to 400 miles on my second pair of SG5.

do you buy 1 size or 1/2 size bigger, on all your trail shoes? Also, are these ok on a mixture of pavement/side-walk/road and trail? one more question: what socks do you wear typically?
@paganskier Жыл бұрын
Bought these and they are the first shoe since knee surgery 4 years ago that has enough cushioning to allow me to actually run a few miles. But only 50 miles of use and my left shoe is crushed on medial side. I do have mild to moderate pronation on that foot, but I weigh under 160 lbs. Not sure if mine are defective or if the construction just doesn't hold up to pronation. So disappointed as I thought I had found a trail shoe that could get me back out there.

Great to hear you're getting back out on the trails again. 50 miles of use is far too low, you can try reaching out to Hoka and sending them some pictures of the wear, they definitely should last much longer than that.

Thanks for the information. I am thinking to purchase one of these shoes. What is the weight of shoes.
@Curtis_Muller Жыл бұрын
Depends on the size, but listed weight is 10.3 oz (292 grams) for the mens shoe. Not the lightest shoe around, however I never found the shoe to be too heavy even during a 50 miler.

I would like a comparison with the hoka stinson 7, I have my eye on this shoe. What about the hoka stinson 7? have you run with him?
@Curtis_Muller Жыл бұрын
Love the road to trail concept that the Stinson is trying to achieve, especially for those shorter mid-week after work runs. I’d like to give them a go, I haven’t tried them yet.

From all models You tested SG5 is the one which You liked most ?
@Curtis_Muller Жыл бұрын
Yes, stacked up against the Salomon's Glide Max & Ultra Glide, as well as Hoka's Mafate Speed 4, the SG5's were my choice for my 50 mile race. I am interested in seeing how the SG5 stack up against Salomon's new Thundercross as well as Nike's new ZoomX Ultrafly Trail.

Are they wide enough or should I go for a wide version?
@Curtis_Muller5 ай бұрын
The regular is definitely wider than a lot of other trail shoes, up to one inch on the forefoot outsole, and even wider than something like the Hoka Mafate.

300 miles seems to be awfully low mileage for a running shoe. Good grip for only 200 miles for about 150$? Say no more! You would expect that from a race shoe, but SG5 is not a race shoe. Good review, honest, but have to read between the lines.

Fans of this company will literally say a shoe falls to pieces in 200 to 300 miles and say they love it. Complete garbage.

Interesting. I have 320 miles of mountain hiking on mine, and , I think easily another 100 left. Maybe more. Sorry you had a bad experience

The SG4 was better. They ruined a great shoe when they changed the midsole.
