Did you say 70 marathons in 70 days?! Wow, I’ll take a pair of those. Awesome effort

The upper is definite more comfortable and breathable than the 4. However, the new heel implantation on the 5 is a nightmare. For every run, I need to re-lace and pull hard on the lace to get a proper lock down. The 4 has a more noticeable rocker geometry and offers better foot protection from the trail. The 5 feel flat and lower down to the ground because Hoka has swapped out for a thinner insole. I do not favour the minor update on its outsole. It feels as if the speedgoat has lost some of its bite.

Thanks for the review. I would love to love the SG5 but the ankle collar is so high that when the terrain becomes steep, off-camber or very technical, it eats my malleolus. The discomfort is so important that I cannot use them for the long mountainous runs I was foreseeing. But if these fit your feet I am convinced they are fantastic to run.

Same issue. On heavily off cancer stuff, it is painful. For everything else I love it.

Similar ankle issues at first but now after about 30 miles in the shoe I don’t notice it anymore

I have the same problem with my SG5. I have to tight the lances quite tight to prevent it bump into my malleolus. But because the lances are tight, the top of foot gets eaten up by the lances. I only use them for my 20km trail runs. For longer runs, I would wear my trusty SG4 as the ankle collar is lower and the upper is better at preventing water/rocks getting into the shoe.

Darn good shoe and works as well as a Swiss Army Knife. A Fine shoe that has been improved.

Thanks for this review, very useful! Would this be a good shoe if your typical running route is 50-50 road and trail?

Did any of you suffer heel slippage. I got mine today but the heel slips unless I heel lock that I don’t particularly like as it seems to add more pressure on the top of my foot.

Any thoughts on this compared to Saucony Xodus Ultra?

Shoe has almost no padding in the tongue. Also, the sole is very frail and designed to break and fray. A truly wonderful design with planned obsolescence.

From those that have this any input on how well the SG5 drains water. I would be using on on Spartan OCR races and there will be water to go though.

You'll be fine. They drain well. 👍

I twisted my ankle badly with speedgoat 4. It's lacking in stability in super technical terrain like on uneven rocky surfaces. I wonder about the speedgoat 5. Is the stability better?
@joneaton33662 жыл бұрын
Answer is no. You better on buying torrent or zinal

Thank you for your advice. I appreciate it very much.
@InfoConGafas2 жыл бұрын
Also, "not twisting your ankle" is far more dependent on the environment and mainly your proprioceptive skills than the shoe. If you blame a shoe for twisting your ankle, you'll never find a shoe that does the job for you

As a classic Salomon firm ride for technical terrain i've never been a fan of Mushy Hokas. Too soft for my liking and that plain EVA midsole packs up way too quickly....
@bikeinmotion2 жыл бұрын
I've ran over 800km in both the EVO Mafate 1 as well as the EVO Speedgoat. The S/Lab Ultra 1 I had to throw away after 550km (and lots of hills) because it was just a a hard brick and my knees started to hurt ... And the Hokas might be soft but they are also springy...

@@bikeinmotion To be fair the S/Lab Ultra 1 was the worst Salomon shoe ever made IMHO.

Yes a very good shoe, but for me to be a avoided if running routes have contoured landscape and your running on a slant.

IF HOKA could offer a GORE-TEX version of htis shoe....and "winter tire tread".....as there are runners who run during the winter months ...or through the wet...as well..

So disappointed with this shoe. It gives zero grip on surfaces that are even slightly wet or sandy. If you running on technical trails like me, please avoid the speedgoat 5.
