Side Cutter Sled for my Proxxon FET. I have been thinking for a long time about making something that should be something in between a Cross Cut Sled and my rip jig, so now I have made the first version of a Side Cutter Sled it is as intended very simple to make but works much better than expected. With this setup, perfect cuts can be made in small pieces of wood, precisely thin strips are sawn and 1000 x 1000 mm boards are sawn without problems. There are still many things that can be done better but I think it can get really good.
I hope there is someone who wants to work on the idea and add their own ideas.

Such an excellent idea. I will certainly add this to my own Proxxon FET.

Thank you for your comment. I am glad that you find the idea useful and think you will be pleasantly surprised, it is reasonably easy to make, does not cost much and works great, I also think that the idea can be used on larger saws.

A month ago I discovered your channel and I'm totally hooked. I signed up for youtube specifically because of your good ideas to give my praise. Greetings from Germany and keep up the good work. I am also looking for an idea to saw the standard 120 X 60 cm wooden boards better with the Proxxon.

This design is great! I will be sure to give it a go. What size is the aluminium extrusion please? Also do you have any jigs for ripping thin marquetry veneer wood into consistent width strips? Thanks

20 x 40 mm. For veneer I use a knife.

Thanks for your comment, unfortunately I don't have the dimensions of the piece of wood as I gave up on making a drawing and instead ended up making it 5 times before it fit perfectly. It is difficult to make, but when you succeed it is really a great improvement on the saw.

Thank you for sharing your design. Do you provide measures and a supply list somewhere to make this? Just bought my FET and love it, but it certainly misses these type of extensions and the protector that came with it was horrible and had to go. Many other designs for cutting sleighs use veneer as a base, but since the Proxxon blade is so small I don't want to waste its cutting dimension to the bottom of the sleigh. This rail system allows to use the max cutting height and therefore genious. Subscribed to your channel, great work!

I discovered your channel by accident and I find your videos very beautiful and inspiring. I wanted to ask you about the dimensions of the aluminum profile you use, as measurements I found a 30x60 one, is it suitable?

Thank you for your comment. I use 20 x 40 mm as it fits well and is cheap, 30 x 60 is too big.

if you cut a small chamfer at the right of the sled, it should also be good to cut with the saw blade at 45° angle ?

I love the idea! All your extensions look very well built and thought through. The provided miter gauge is really bad but I can't replace it by a nicer one because the track is really small and too close to the blade for any commercial gauge to fit. You found a very interesting solution to that problem. But the fact that it's not properly supported somehow doesn't satisfy me. So I was wondering about using a T-track supported by plywood that would mount on the extension rods on the side. One could fit a nice miter gauge in there. But I would prefer something closer to the sled of a panel saw. Therefore, I was thinking about replacing the T-track with a Machifit linear slider. WDYT?

Thank you for your comment. I completely agree that there is a lack of support, my plans are that I will try to lower the saw into my work table so that the table supports the handlebars and the workpiece. I do not know Machifit linear slider.
@emulgatorx
@emulgatorx 2 жыл бұрын
@@Harris-DIY That sounds like a nice setup. Looking forward to seeing that. I unfortunately don't have the space for a table. The Machifit rails are linear guides with a sled supported by ball bearings. They should glide easily without lateral slack and also prevent up and down movement. What I would love would be something like this sled for the Hegner MK4: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKfal3qOftdrsJI

You already had a gorgeous sled, why did you decide to create this solution? What can you do now that you couldn't before? Thank you for the great content!
@Harris-DIY
@Harris-DIY Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. One solution is not better than the other and I use both my Cros Cut Sled and my Side Cut System. CCS takes up less space and is a little difficult to make, as everything has to be very precise to work as intended. SCS can handle larger and longer items and can easily be adjusted to 100% precise cuts and then only the wooden block the system runs on is difficult to make, the rest just need to be screwed together and adjusted in place. Both solutions, in my opinion, make the saw so much better that everyone should make at least one of them.

Thank you for your comment. Yes a bit difficult but cheap, Proxxon should sell the bearing block as it is the difficult part.

@Harris-DIY
@Harris-DIY Жыл бұрын
The aluminum profile rests on a block made of wood and MDF, it is this block that is difficult to make as there are many small angles that must be made very precisely. Have you seen the second version which is much easier to make but also takes up more space? Proxxon FET Ready for testing in real work kzbin.info/www/bejne/eamZm4V9jLKdrQ
