Hokkaido Chinese Elm Split up & Repot

In this video we find out that what I thought was three Hokkaido Chinese Elms, turns out to be one. So now we have to split them up and hope for the best!

Hint for dry soil. Place in a bucket and add water a little at a time and mix by hand until you get a nice damp consistency. Still loose it will be but will absorb the water much better since all the soil is damp and not dry in spots.

Root raking and repotting in separate pots, shows off some really nice HCE trees. Should grow nice once Old Man winter takes his vacation and lets in Her Majesty, Miss Spring.

What about your Dremmel with a cut off wheel attachment to go through the 2 attached trunks for a nice easy split? Might work better and a cleaner cut.

It is actually cleaner to split with a sharp edge. Using the dremel causes micro abrasions across the surface. Probably doesn't matter, but that was ehy I made my decision.

A meat clever centered in the middle of where you would like to split it might work better since the clever is placed and the other hand just presses down hard and fast. You did a great job though. Just some after thoughts on splitting. Log splitter???? A bit of humor on that one.
