The first difference I noticed between this version and the Genesis version (other than the Japanese kanji, of course), is the gore. Heads and bodies exploding in starbursts of glorious red blood...and this technically pre-dates Mortal Kombat.

There were a lot of gory games that predated Mortal Kombat such as Death Duel, Splatterhouse, Beast Busters, etc. I think the reason why MK caused such an uproar with soccermoms was due to how it used digitized graphics of real people, instead of drawings.

Hokuto no Ken as manga/anime was based around a martial art that would cause people's heads to explode and shit. I'd like to find out if Boon and Tobias were fans of Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star first.

The "Mad Max-Style" concept (Plus Bruce Lee) worked for Japanese manga, but it *didn't* work for DC Comic's _Jonah Hex_ in the 80s. Pity.

@@luisreyes1963 Yup. Jonah is a former confederate solider (Wears the gray uniform) turned bounty hunter in the Wild West. His face was mutilated by Apache Indians as a teenager. The comic began to falter, so they tried the Mad Max shtick in the 80s. It didn't work. Luckily it worked for Hokuto No Ken!

This game feels like the result of someone that had seen FotNS / HnK, but only had 5 minutes to explain it to the dev team, who had never seen, heard nor appreciated what it was. It captures some of the details (heads exploding, shirt ripping, fast punch) but none of the heart. FotNS / HnK feels like one of the most under-utilized IP's in video game history. It could have been an amazing co-op beat-em-up. The later VS fighters were ok, but c'mon... it needed some Streets of Rage treatment.

this seems to be based on the events of the celestial emperor and land of Asura Arks, Im seeing older Linn and the Pirate Oldman whos Shachi's Dad in this, so this would be Ark 5 of the Manga I believe. that's Cool I rather like the Later stuff as much as the earlier, so thats cool!. looks like they Even recreated the ending of the anime in this which is pretty neat! too bad the old school anime didn't get as far as Ark 6, they seem to be done with it by then, I believe theres a Sega CD game that exists covering the 6th ark, but I could be wrong. this is a really cool find, makes me wish for a mod of streets of rage to look more like Fist, that would be awesome, with Ark Sys Levels of sprite detail! ^___^

Ok, the French version was disgusting, today the games are optimized but in France, unlike the United States and Japan we are at 50hz and not 60, suddenly the games were slowed down by 30% (already that Last Battle is slow ) and were not in full screen. For censorship, they removed the blood and the end-of-level bosses were blue, pink😑. Fortunately I always bought my consoles in import 😁
