That's why Max Fleischer continued to film the body of his cartoons in black and white until he was forced out of his own studio in January 1942. Famous Studios- Paramount's successor to Fleischer Studios- continued to film the Popeye series in monochrome until 1943, when they introduced an "all-Technicolor" production schedule.

I don't think *anyone* abided by the rules of the game. The lead cat sings "When I say "hold it", everybody hold!" But they don't freeze when he says "Hold it", they freeze when he says "everybody hold!" (or just "stop!")

i just love seeing cats tease dogs. Observing cats over many years, they really will go to this much trouble to annoy a dog! I admire the way the cartoonists capture this in an (slightly) exaggerated way.

I remember seeing this cartoon several times when I was a little kid. I'm grateful to ASIFA-Hollywood for the restoration. I think of all the cartoon studios, I liked (and still like!) Max Fleischer and Warner Bros. the best.

Wow! This restoration is incredible! The sound quality is amazing and even the picture and color stay very true to the original animation cels. Great job to the restoration team behind this one! And even the cartoon itself, I must say, it's surprisingly very good! Probably one of the funniest 30s cartoons I've seen in a long time, with a strong sense of comedic timing and creative usage of gravity. I can imagine the Looney Tunes creators like Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng took a lot of inspiration from cartoons like this.

Veawing back and forth in the frame - that was old KZbin setting that by default had video stabilization ON. It was intended for handheld videos being uploaded. When people uploaded the films and cartoons, the stabilization wasnt turned off - resulting in ruined videos.

This film technique is called rotoscope which gave animated films a type of 3d effect. Kind of like the viewmaster you see a still image but drawn in a way that every image was on a different level.

The end of the cartoon looks rather surreal. The cats jump into the air, looking freakish, land back on the fence, and hit the last note of the song. And then... *animal abuse* ensues!

this is how cartoons were supposed to look inna theaters, when first released, but the lesser vhs tape over companies inna 80s-thru say the early 2000's copied from lousy drive in or tv lesser standard 16mm or 35 mm film stock that was from home bought and not from the archive studio prints is the diff.
