Price point for any 23/24 product is inflated let’s start there. I completely agree that this definitely should be south of $100 per box. Having said that, some of the foily inserts this year are really good looking. Not talking about any of the paper meeting plastic stuff but the thrill rides and rookie journeys.

The numbering for the true rookies keeps changing because of the year 2017-18 rookies were numbered to 18 and with this year its numbered to 24 for 2023-24

Really don’t understand the hate for Synergy. It’s literally my favorite set from hockey. Cards look so good and it feels nice to see serial numbers even if they are so plentiful. Adds to the excitement.

Got to give it to you for showing people the new products so they can decide beforehand if they want to go get hosed. I appreciate that of your videos. Prices are ridiculous. I am old enough to remember when the flagship release came out at a consistent $90 year after year. Didn't matter about the rookie crop in it. Now today's prices based on the #1 pick?? They're frickin everyones bone!!

Fair points. For what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s contrarian to believe cards should (attempt to) break paradigms. Had you shown me, in the 1980s, Skittles cards made of translucent hard plastic, I would have fallen off my chair. Including a chase deceased Howe auto #/15. Unpopular cards serve to push the hobby. Note too that Starquest are some of the most cherished historical cards, from Collectors Choice. They were an entry for many GenX. The very fact that boxes tank in price allow casual collectors to equally enter the hobby, and not by copycatting influencers, or being told what to “value.” The periphery is a place to geek out for all the right reasons (whether it be cards, art, food, music, etc.) Ergo love or hate, niche products are niche for a reason, and are best understood as playful peculiarities. Notably because they will never have mass appeal or monetary value. But I do understand your take, and how mainstream expectations are framed. Just like your pointed hot take is an appreciated independent-minded one, Synergy is simply an independent product.

i’ll buy a few boxes of this in a few years when it’s $50 a box on Dave and Adams. I’ll spend my money on other products that I like more than this one. I’m going to be patient and wait for a set that actually has all the rookies in it even if it takes a few months.

Not an issue with the complaint. Very accurate. This product at $80 that you find some previous years at is not even close to worth it. So for twice as much lol. Those were the two most lackluster boxes I’ve ever seen.

a future watch card is the same card as a basic upper deck card, so cost to make is always around the same ball park, so they will drop out whatever they can cause release is where the moneys at. then stock market will carry the rest of stock. 180 is a lot of money especially if it costs 30 bucks to make a box. 20 bucks to pay staff % 40 bucks to pay off players and staff% the rest all profit for the devil.

Synergy is one of my favorite products of the year. I honestly don't get the hate, the cards are neat. People go crazy about YG acetates, and you get a similar tech card in every pack with Synergy. Not everything should be about how much you're going to sell it for.
