FUN FACT: The cast and crew all had such an absolute blast making this movie that they never dismantled the cast and crew email that they created. So here's the thing, Scott and Ramona are both terrible people. They could get better, but as they are, they are not good. I love how much you're enjoying this movie. The thing about Scott is, he's not supposed to be likable at the beginning. He "levels up" in terms of maturity as the movie progresses. As Ramona says, we all have baggage, and Scott's real mission throughout the movie is to become the kind of person we might actually like at the end. The original ending had him getting back together with Knives, but I think that would have been terrible. He and Ramona having another try now that they've dealt with their baggage is a much better ending. It doesn't say they end up happily ever after, just that they give it another try. (A lot of these themes are a lot more evident in the graphic novels.)

5:04 Scott Pilgrim was named after a song by a band of teenage Canadian girls called Plumtree in 1997. His name isn’t said in the song’s lyrics-it came from the band confusing the names of two of their friends, Scott Ingram and Philip Pilgrim. That’s why Scott’s wearing a Plumtree shirt at the Rockit. Stephen Stills and Young Neil are named after one half of the band Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Kim Pine was created by Bryan Lee O’Malley (the comic’s author) in high school, and was first envisioned to be a X-man ripoff who could grow quills like a porcupine. He gave up the concept, but he liked her name. X,p The idea for the storyline came from Bryan’s then-girlfriend telling him about several exes she had named Matthew, and Bryan wondering what if they formed some kind of union. He even planned to name Lucas “Matthew” as well, but decided one was enough in that case. He and that girlfriend were married for a decade, but then divorced. I hope he’s moved on alright. Ramona Flowers *might* be named after the song that plays in her intro in the movie, “I heard Ramona Sing” by Frank Black, or possibly after “To Ramona” by Bob Dylan. Or maybe she just looked like a Ramona. ;3

Yeah, Edgar Wright is amazing. He is an expert on using visual cues to tell a story and evoke the emotion that is so hard to tell in a cinematic setting. You need to watch this movie a second time, once you know the story , it is easier to see things that are easily overlooked. For instance, Ramona's disdain for musicians when Scott says he is in a band. The movie has zero filler and every scene was done to perfection.

Ghost World and American Splendor are some more movies based on comics that are set in the real world. And I have some graphic novels in my collection that would look good in yours, like The Dark Phoenix Saga, The Sandman and John Constantine Hellblazer Original Sins. It's "Suggested for Mature Readers" and collects the first 9 issues of Hellblazer beginning in January 1988, with a couple of tie-in issues of Swamp Thing. And if I had people constantly telling me what movies I should watch, I would either go nuts, or just stop watching movies and quietly go read a book where no one would bother me.
