@@SweeteaDove I disagree that being a phase means it held no value or love. I've had many phases in life (some romantic, some like school or friends). I've also been those phases for lots of people. At the end of the day, I see it as them and me teaching the other something about their/my true self - or at least the person we'd like to become. If your love ends up being a building block for someone else's cathedral, it still hurts that they didn't build it with/for you, obviously. But over time I've come to see that the life they wanted to live is not the one I wanted to. And so, even though the rejection hurts, I'm also glad I got to live in my own cathedral. And if some of my masonry ended up featured in some (but not all!) elements of theirs, then even though I was a phase for them and even though it hurts, it still was not for nothing. You can be a meaningful phase, and if you helped the other person discover who they are/want to be, then there is also a kind of tragic beauty to be found in that... Cheers :)

I agree so much with this. Roxy doesn't count as an ex - or really a person - in this movie, just a punchline, which you can see from Scott's only reaction being getting horny and verifying: "You had a sexy face?" And then, Ramona has to fight her, because again; Roxy doesn't count as a real ex in this movie, or a real person, so this is not Scott's battle, it's hers. I hate this scene and this movie so much for this biphobia and I'm honestly disappointed that it didn't get called out in the video.

Also want to point out that Roxy has more screen time than Matthew Patel who's just pirate looking song n dance guy, or the Katayanagi twins who are just the Japanese DJ twins. Those two guys aren't even characters. She has a real motive for wanting to join the league as she was straight up used by Ramona to experiment with her sexuality. Since youve done this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look at the sequel show, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. It shifts the framing from Scott to Ramona, and it does such an incredible job going into the trauma and relationships between her and the exes.

One of the best things about the anime ( Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix) is how it not only shows how Ramona isn't a good person (her main issue is running away from her problems which is what causes her to dump all those people) but it shows that without Scott, every single character in the story has a marked improvement in their lives.

Attempt #3 of asking for Spirit l: Stallion of the Cimarron!! Was my absolute childhood movie growing up and the filmmaking is so beautiful with amazing scores and concepts of loss and staying true to once nature even in the face of adversity!

Is really good to see this video specially today. Today I noticed I hurt people. I talked with someone I've hurt last year and noticed my motivations to act how I acted with this person, making me as the protagonist of that story such like Scott did, don't justify what I did. I couldn't even lunch correctly when the feeling of regret and guilt stucked in my throat. And I don't know how I couldn't remember about all Scott Pilgrim's franchise (Manga, Movie and Anime) that I love so much and the meaning behind It. You guys are amazing and I'm grateful you've created this channel and help people see the hidden things in movies. I'm still a bit frustrated and also still accepting that I did something wrong instead of being the protagonist of the story, but this makes me a bit lighter. Thank you guys.

I also like the parallel set up with Knives and Ramona. When Knives challenges Ramona, they show how Scott has now formed his own evil Ex. They show us how this whole process of hurt people hurting people is a cycle. Its only broken when the person who caused all the hurting actually takes accountability for their actions and meaningfully apologizes.

Once when I was 18 and told my first female best friend I was in love with her. To this day it might be the worst thing I've ever done to someone. I had this horrible realization of how I came to the conclusion that it was appropriate to tell her and spent a month punishing myself in various creative ways. It turned out to be very effective, never said those words again.

Yes! My favourite movie! (and favourite graphic novel series) You guys nailed the message of Scott being a bad person but learning from his mistakes by the way, though I will say that part's done even better in the comics - the whole sequence with the Nega Scott representing all of Scott's past mistakes, Scott running from him for most of the books but then finally giving in & taking accountability is honestly one of the best things I've seen in literature (cannot recommend the graphic novels enough to anyone who loves this movie, they're so good!)

I just want to say this on the most recent video, but I've been watching Cinema Therapy for about a year and a half now; and I've always appreciated Jono and Alan's candor when talking about their own personal struggles. Not in a parasocial way, but these are two men who - by societal standards - have everything going for them. Stability, family, a passion project. And yet they are still open about the struggles they do and have had. As someone in Gen Z, it's so easy to feel like we're going to be crushed under the weight of everything. But it eases some of my anxiety when Jono and Alan are able to say, "Sometimes things suck. They sucked for us, but we got through it. We're still getting through it. And it's hard, but it gets easier over time." I just really appreciate the authenticity and transparency that this channel operates with.

So glad you two like that movie so much. I never got to see it, but you had valuable cultural takeaways to showcase, and that POV and all the layered coatings of all the communication of all those screens that were the current culture thing and also actually parenting you. Centered by this because it was pretty much what everyone you knew in your school year, was going through... but unique to each of them. It always helps when you can fibally reflect from a wider perspective than what you are currently experiencing in life.
