Good job mate one of the best things for sludge and carbon removal is 50/50 acetone mixed with automatic transmission fluid….. Or kerosone not bad either COME Racing On KZbin have got some old videos explaining how to put a rope seal in a 308 If you’re interested they seem to use a jig and soak it in oil overnight and the crank goes in and out afew times…… tricky You can get the block machined for a neoprene rear main seal but it all costs money. Interestingly they also do an oiling mod for a 308 by drilling an Annulus the front Cam bearing housing to improve oiling…… so if you’re handy with a die grinder, you can do that for free basically, but it’s probably too late now doesn’t matter if it’s standard setup i guess 1/4 cam or a mild cam would’ve still been okay mate Good job looks great..!

Cool little engine, can you slow down a bit so us guys in the States can see it? I never seen one of those over here before, what was that little gear under the timing chain? It looks similar to a sbc but a bunch of differences for sure, interesting.

The oil pump is driven of the front of the camshaft similar to a big block mopar or some buick v8s i think. That is the little gear i think you are reffering to. Funny enough it doesn't displace many ci but is physically larger than a small block chevy.

It is a 4in bore with a 3.02 stroke

@@Joedennett69 That's good that it has a 4" bore, what size is the rod journal? I'm curious if one could get more stroke out of it? Are the rods the same as the sbc rods? Do you have measuring tools like micrometers or maybe a set of calipers?

@@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 They do have a 5.7in rod, same as a 350 I believe. The journal size is 2.124 so the rods are not the same. People in AUS do build stroker kits for these motors 355/383. or offset grind standard cranks.

U got a Holden 304 lover here from the Netherlands i put my holden 304 in a euro car thats similair to a VK coupe more or less anyway i see ure rebuild or freshen up but i wonder u keep the welsh plugs in? I hope u replace them as they are a horror to remove wenn engine is in car and now u have such easy acces for those 30-50$ i really would advice u swap them....

The donor car had the dash pulled out of it so i don't know. But yes it was bad.

Hi mate new subscriber here i have a few Questions on your 304 Swap as i am wanting to do the same thing to my holden 6 cylinder 1999 Vs ute i was wandering if you could tell me if you are still using the V6 Battery side wiring the wiring harness that comes through the driver side fire wall for Cluster, Batter, BCM, Ect..!!! can you please tell me if it can be used or will it need to be pulled out and replaced with the V8 wiring harness for that side of things i realise that you would have to change the BCM if you kept the V6 harness in place any help would be great thanks and thanks for the Content thus far it has been very helpful.

Hi Luke. I used the 6 cyl harness for that side of the motor because i didnt have the v8 one. I had to extend the charge cable to the alternator and the lead to the starter had to be extended as the v8 is larger. I am still retaining the original v6 bcm and have no problems. For a 99 commodore the bcm's may have gotten smarter and may not work but im not %100.

Nothing to do with Chevy LOL. This is the continuation of the original 308 engine that ran from 69 to 1999, really didn't change much over time either, other than small rotating assembly changes and a cylinder head redesign in 1988 the basic engine never changed much...
