Why you running single plane manifold? Wouldn't dual plane be better for this combo?
@Joedennett697 күн бұрын
Already tried a dualplane. It sucked, bottom end didn't matter as the converter flashes to 3000 when you stomp it, and it looses the top end.

Is that 110 to 130 kilometers per hour or miles per hour?🤔🤷 There's a big difference we're talking about there.😁 The intake you really need is a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake. This intake will do better than either one of those all the way up to 6,500 RPM. Then those single plane intakes might do better above that RPM if your cam can rev that high? If it's a hydraulic flat tappet it's done by 6,500 if it can even rev that high? China is right there near you guys, don't they ship any of that inexpensive sbc stuff over there? You can get a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake over here for about 130 bucks shipped over here and over there is way closer than over here in the US.🤷 Anyway can't wait to see the comparison between the 2 intakes.😎👍
@Joedennett697 күн бұрын
Talking 110 to 130 kph. For intakes. I ran a performer dual plane on it before. The motor did not like it. Ran the slowest it ever has. The engine is a solid flat tappet 230/230@50 on a 109lsa. The converter flashes up to 3000 when you hit it, so performance under that doesn't really matter.
@Joedennett697 күн бұрын
Also, I'm not a super huge fan of buying Chinese parts if i dont have to.
@itseithergonnaworkoritaint78527 күн бұрын
@@Joedennett69 I agree with you on the Performer intake, it's a 10 HP step back from a factory 4bbl intake. The Performer RPM dual plane though is WAY better than a Performer. I would say 40 HP over a factory 4bbl so 50 over the Performer.😯 Don't be afraid of the sbc China junk, it's been around long enough they're not to bad now. 20 years ago though was a different story. The cheap aluminum Chinese sbc heads flow about 250 max intake CFM out of the box with a weight savings. Buy them bare and assemble them yourself to make sure they're right. Get some self wicking green Loctite to glue the seats in just in case and they're good to go. All the big cylinder head companies are sending most of their work over there anyway. Kinda hard not to use that stuff anymore unless you use all old factory stuff or NOS aftermarket parts.

Unfortunately 15.3s is all they'll do stock and the 4l60 is slow af lol My vn Calais I had in 2012 ran a best of 15.1 with exhaust, cold air intake, locked 3.08 diff ,it had a healthy stock th700 with massive trans cooler. Vns about 100kg lighter too though. Advice put ya fan shroud back on and fit a decent trans cooler with a fan ,that'll fix ya heat soak, 5Ls run hot so need all the cooling aids u can give em 👍 Even try find the plastic ducting the front end had from factory, radiators don't work 100% without the ducting. That weird over rev is pretty normal, even the th700s did it ,u can't hurt the engine it's not valve floating, they'll rev to over 7000 before u get near it lol I use to bounce mine off limiter and never bothered it. I've messed with many 5Ls since 2000 ,even had a 333 vb sle with yt heads n 650 double pumper ,thing was wild 👌 Reason they went to smaller oil filter is the 5L doesn't spew all the oil into the heads like the ol 308s use too, they don't require as much volume as the 308s ,blue 308s are the worst for it too, I used the small filter n never had an issue. Actually found your channel looking for 5L content as I'm looking to put one in my current vn exec ,best sounding v8 on earth imo, not chasing big hp maybe 300/350hp ,over seeing ls1s in them lol Had a turbo Buick in it but didn't like it and had to sell it anyway to rebuild my fgs barra that blew up on me 🤦♂️ After having 500hp 775nms in my fg I've found big hp is over rated tbh, everytime I try to race it I break something 🙄 6 weeks ago I tore the subframe and lhs cv shaft a new one lol so yeah it's honestly pointless now being it's the daily, might sell it n buy a stock xr6t ute and do up the vn again lol Thinking stock bottom end, ported heads, harrop high rise ,4 barrel tb , paceys, twin 2.5" exhaust, haltech 750 ,t400 and maybe a truetrack n 345s/3.7s , I do have some 411s here ,might be too short though 🤔 Appolgies for the long comment, 1 last thing look at a better manifold and tb setup, headers, a small cam like a crane 280 and get it tuned, should see around 270 280whp and you'll be good for high 12s 👌

Yep, gotta have good flowing heads to make good power. Unless you do what the super stock guys do and run a cam with way to much duration, a 5,000 RPM stall with 5.36:1 gears. They're fast but not very streetable. Hey, what are midrolls?🤔🤷

Hey mate. Sweet channel + vids. Whats your mechanical background? Professional mech, or just a DIY guy? Im looking to do a resto on something of interest soon, but only have done head gaskets, and have some KZbin/book knowledge and passion for our beautiful Aussie cars. As its hard to get things done without being engineered/an engineer, is this stuff do-able in the home garage without experience/training? Cheers again mate for the awesome content!
@Joedennett6926 күн бұрын
I've never really thought about how hard doing something will be on a car. If you want to do whatever it is with your car, you'll eventually figure it out. No, I've had no formal training for what you see on the channel, but i am an engine machinist for my day job. As for vehicle engineering, it depends on what car and what modifications. For me it was easy with the HQ putting a smallblock chev in because a 350 was a factory option for the car. But later model stuff youl start having legality issues, especially vehicles with emissions gear if you want to go down the route of 100% legal.
