Nice and informative, would have been great to see the whole diagnosis from beginning to end. Is it possible that the root cause was the oil separator allowing oil into the turbo? What was the condition of the air filter? I only ask because my oil separator is passing oil and am looking at fitting a catch can. Merry Xmas.

Thanks Neil, will certainly be looking to get more of the diagnostic process in these videos as I get better with shooting/time management etc. I don't believe the oil separator was the cause. As it was reasonably cheap we actually changed it a day or so before, if anything the symptom got worse. I can confirm that the separator was leaking externally when I pumped smoke into it, the new one was not. Most manufacturers run a separator like this, many are actually built internally into the tappet cover - the majority of them don't work well and you will still get quite a lot of crankcase blowby oil in the intake. Definitely recommend fitting a catch can if you have the space. I prefer the Mann + Hummel Provent system. Will go a long way to preventing intake carbon build up and longevity of the DPF.

This is a 2009 Captiva CG Series 1, 2.0 Z20S1 engine. Your's is a Captiva CG Series 2, 2.2 Z22D1 Series 1 seems to get more mechanical faults while series 2 seems to have more electrical problems. Very different vehicles under the bonnet.

Thanks for making this video. I’m helping a friend with this exact problem. I couldn’t understand why there is so much oil around the turbo. There is no play in the turbo shaft. Will removing the restriction in the oil save the turbo? I do not have dpf codes… yet.

Love this video, I have a 2015 nissan qashqai and the turbo pipe has split. The mechanic says he can fix for $1100 as a quick fix. Will this be helpful or should I get all things properly repaired?

The turbo on the 2.0 td oil feed is insufficient, in conjunction with the egr and pcv causing dirty shit going through the intake back into the car through the turbo and dpf cause all manner of problems

Steve, I have a 2009 Holden Captiva and was serviced however we missed one, the car started blowing black smoke and we were told that the turbo and diesel particulate filter had gone. Can this be due to one missed service ??? They didn’t say it was but I’m wondering as I’ve had second hand cars all my adult life ranging from $5000 vehicles to $10,000 and never had major issues, had missed a service here and there but never had any major faults but with this Captiva spent $30,000 and looked after it well, didn’t seem to have any issues the the turbo went ! Is that to be expected or was there a fault do you think ???

I have oil coming from the back of my brand new turbo? Any suggestions
@allstateautoimports5 жыл бұрын
There is a good chance whoever fitted your new turbo failed to clean out any oil restriction that may have built up in the turbo oil return pipe. This was the main problem, Brendan had that was causing the oil to drain back into the exhaust.
@keseanmcbath82233 жыл бұрын
Clean dpf filter it may be clogged creating pressure that is blowing turbo seal causing leak

@@keseanmcbath8223 wonder if you had any help advice. We took our captiva 2008 model, for a service a week or two in there was an diesel fuel oil smell and it got unbearable, took the car in, and they said there was oil and diesel blowing back up really badly once the engine cover was taken off it revealed a yellow cap that was unscrewed and smoking badly. He stayed we needed a new engine. But now I'm wondering if this is the issue that's shown in the video.
