In nascar they have in car cameras. If a driver deliberately wrecks another driver, they will pull the driver from the race. It usually only happens in the last lap of a race so that doesnt matter. The driver will lose points from that race, and could have to sit out other races. The yellow for the flat is true, assuming that debris from the tire went onto the track. And no you cannot gain track position on pit road, to the cars on the track, you can gain positions to the other drivers who pit.

It’s not just nascar, it’s most motorsports. When there’s an incident(severity varies by league) the race gets paced and you can’t pass/move position. That’s why lightning had to beat the pace car, to be able to loop while they’re stuck behind it. Otherwise he was going to be stuck behind it too and a lap down with no way to make it up.

I actually consider this to be a top 5, if not top 3, Pixar film. And the reason why is that despite all the people being literal vehicles, it feels more real than just about any other animated movie I’ve ever seen. Ironically the most unbelievable part of the film is just the idea that Lightning would actually change his ways and mindset, but hey that’s the point of films is to tell the amazing story that doesn’t usually happen. Otherwise it all feels very real, the up and coming rookie in a modern sport who has amazing natural genetic talent but no true skill and doesn’t know anybody, believing he has to pump himself up at the expense of others. Gets side railed on the way to the next event, learns a few tricks and combines that with being the most naturally gifted person, wins the race (obviously Chick got the cup but we all know who won). Sprinkle in some real facts of history and nostalgia to give life lessons, of a years gone athlete in the same profession who had the same gift but due to an injury was forgotten and shunned, becomes bitter to his past even to the point of acting like his old self doesn’t exist. Having the love for the sport slowly reignited by encountering a young buck who reminds him of himself. The city person who had it all but wasn’t fulfilled, finding a small town and realizing it’s the little things that matter. A commentary on how the interstate highway system may have been good for ease of access and overall efficiency but you end up sacrificing those little things and experiences for the sake of that efficiency. Radiator Springs is a real story for countless towns that made up the real Route 66 that were famous for their high quality local businesses, only to become abandoned and/or decadent ghost towns when the interstates were constructed, because a lot of those businesses relied on traveling customers and lost 90% or more of them. I do local deliveries as sales and I have to drive to stops alongside southwest MO’s section of Route 66 often and it’s heartbreaking to see

I think about this every time I see this movie, but McQueen's tire blew with HALF A LAP to go, and people (real life and in-movie) ragged on him for skipping tires in the pit, but he would've won that race nearly a lap UP on the whole field if Chick Hicks didn't pit him and wear down his tires so bad in a full-speed slide. Sliding like he did probably put 20+ laps worth of wear on his tires... Like, both with driving and race strategy, McQueen handedly won that race if the officiating actually cracked-down on Chick the cheater.

I loved this movie as a kid, and I still do. I still have tons of merch from it. Bedsheets, toy cars, mini race tracks, clothes, I even think I used to own Lightning McQueen shoes as a kid 😂. Though every time I watch a first time reaction of it on YT I remember how old I'm getting, having seen this in cinemas.
