It really resonated with me when Kim said she had to think "what would a person without anxiety do?" and then do that thing. I have huge social anxiety and I have to basically do the EXACT same thing. I tell my husband, I am going to "flip the switch now." And I have to mentally go from social anxiety-ridden me to this completely different person in order to function in social situations with tons of people. It's exhausting afterwards but it gets me thru it. Glad I'm not the only one!

Yes! People are always surprised when I describe myself as introverted. “But you’re so social!” they say. Yes, I *can* be social; in fact, I can be really funny (I’m told) when necessary. Buuut then I go home and sit staring on the couch.

I think the thing I like the most about this season of the Amazing Race is it feels like, even though you're in a competition, you all seem so happy and supportive of everyone on the race. Yes, there's competition, but it feels like there's less...friction. There doesn't seem to be the animosity between the teams I've seen in previous seasons, and I wonder how much of that is the fact of the precautions have caused you to have more time to get to know each other, or if you're just all SO GLAD to be doing something that feels semi-normal after 19 months of COVID life.
@holdernessfamilylaughs2 жыл бұрын
I think because we had a chance to get to know each other before Covid and the weird trauma of leaving the race bonded us all. And the way we traveled so closely helped us get to know each other really well. We all respect each other.

My wife and I are cheering for you. You have made our Wednesday nights Amazing Race necessary TV. FYI, I used to work at one of the largest cheese packaging companies in the country. The cheese you buy in rectangles and half moons comes to the packaging center in 740 pound blocks and it’s covered with green mold that must be scrapped off before it is cut and packaged. So, if your cheese is green, cut off the mold and enjoy. BTW, as a midwesterner we love your Midwest neighbor. She is so spot on.

While I admit Penn's point that when paddles are on opposite sides of the "kayak", they can crash into each other, I'm mostly on Kim's side here. He thought he was helping when he actually wasn't, because even one stroke of his paddle on the same side as Kim's WAS turning them . . . BUT of course there were special circumstances to him not quite realizing what was happening and getting synchronized and in unison was not entirely possible at that point. I was glad to see that video of you guys kayaking, though, because during the episode it was showing everybody else on the river, and the entire time I was wondering, "Why didn't they show Kim and Penn paddling, even for a couple seconds?" Now I think I get why that particular footage didn't make the episode itself. ;)

As someone who also struggles with depression and anxiety, it was really interesting hearing you approach it as "what would someone without anxiety/depression do". I don't know if that would help me when I spiral but it's worth a shot. Something I've referenced before is a list of 10 questions to use as check-ins. It's called Everything Is Awful And I'm Not Okay (it will pop up if you Google it). It asks you things like have you eaten recently, have you showered, do you need water, etc and then prompts you to do those things and see if you feel better after.

I love ya’ll. I’ve watched this episode a few times and love the dynamics of this conversation about the kayak. I’m pulling for ya’ll too. You do the 40s very well.

So much fun watching. Never have watched the show before. Almost to your book on my reading list. When you take any personality test I always get a result that I should never have gone near my husband. We don't always row together but we're excited to try.

Just discovered this podcast and I am so happy. Love TAR and I love you guys and your relationship. It’s cute even when you guys fight! And I am happy that New Kim shared her experience. I firmly believe that you can become anyone you want to be when you put your mind to it. I hope this will help your some of your subbies who let certain conditions define them and feel like they can’t change who they are. Rooting for you both to win the race!

Penn get your hernia fixed sooner than later. You may be out of commission for the 3 months but they are 3 months of your choosing. If you wait until it is a medical emergency it could take you out for longer than 3 months due to complications.

I have to comment on the kayaking issue. I'm from Colorado where white water river kayaking is a thing. I live in Florida where we kayak in calm water, AND I've owned an inflatable kayak. So I can speak with some authority. There is nothing either of you could have done to make that better. The "kayak" was a floating BRICK and the weight distribution was so far out of whack with two of you in the boat. You were doomed from the start and the fact that you even lived to get out of the water, much less finish in first place is a freaking miracle. You're both correct in that canoe paddles would have been FAR more useful. Good job, though. Thanks for not killing each other. ♥

This is actually the first recap I've watched; need to go back and watch the rest now. We're all rooting for you guys and not to be biased but you're the best on the show for sure. :)

I watched the ADHD video and thought "That's me." And most people who have known me would know that, but what people don't know is that I have low-level social anxiety. I can go in a bubble so fast. I really appreciate Kim talking about that.

No Mam on the treacherous roads!! I had a breakdown in Tennessee over Christmas/New Years vacation and cried and swore I would never go back!! It was strange bc it was only in the car, on my feet I was fine! In the vehicle I felt like I was going to fall off of the world!!! So sick and terrified!!!

Thank you so much for sharing about "the new Kim"! I've had to face some my anxieties in stressful situations as well, and I really appreciated hearing your perspective. Congrats on your win this leg!

I’ve heard you say many times that two things can be true. By laying down, he didn’t have perspective to see he wasn’t in sync w/you. You didn’t tell him to use less force and steer more bc the person in back steers. If he used less force and steered more, you’d be fine. If he were in front using force, and you mainly steered, you’d be fine. You were in the wrong positions to do what you were doing. So you were both equally right and wrong. But you know what this means? The gauntlet’s been thrown. We need a kayaking race between you and Penn.
