That little fluff ball could do more damage than you may realize. I once approached some kittens and the guy with me had a dog that made one of the lil itty bitty kitten's hair stand on end. I decided that I was gonna pet that on edge lil fur ball anyways. Within a moment he/she had shredded my arm and was hanging from my finger by it's tooth. Might have been a little smaller than the kitten in this video.

It's my experience that one situation in which small kittens would need nail trimming, is if they are nursing off of a mom. Kittens' nails can be very sharp, and it can be painful for the mom if her kits have sharp nails and are kneading back and forth to get milk.

The obvious conclusion. At the moment he'e not in a position or age group where he can do anything about it. In fact his vulnerability is all too obvious. If he and his siblings were out in the real world on their own, they might not survive long. Cats have nails for a reason. It is there first line of defense if attacked. Most of the time we aren't the intended targets, because they learn to trust fairly quickly. . Now you have a best friend for life. Just forget the trimming.

Feral kittens and cats just take a lot of time and patience. I will say that it’s all worth it. The love they give you is amazing and special. Earning the trust of them makes that bond all the better. Don’t give up a cat or kitten so easy because it’s not sweet and tame already. It may be afraid and stressed and need to feel safe. When they feel safe and sound they tend to be calmer and less clawing and hissing. You’d be afraid to if Speke grabbed you and took you from what you saw as home. Give them time and a safe place to relax. Talk to them with a calm voice to. ❤️ Never just give up so easy. Give it time.

It is a shame that so many people are putting negative comments on this post. I am sure that none of these folks have had any experience with feral kittens. Trimming a cat's nails does not harm them. Declawing is the inhumane thing, but she is not doing that here. She is simply trimming his little nails, which does not hurt him -- he is feisty because he is still acting like a wild kitten. Taking in feral kittens is a huge commitment and requires special care and handling, which is exactly what she is doing here. I co-fostered 6 kittens with a friend of mine and it took awhile for them to learn to trust us. But after fostering them for 4 weeks, they turned out to be the most loving little fur babies and all of them were adopted to good homes. They would have likely had a very hard life on the streets if not taken in (a previous litter from the same feral momma ended up dying). In fact, one of the 6 kittens we took in had gotten his head stuck in between some boxes that were left outside near a shipping container and it was just a miracle that my friend heard him crying -- that is how she knew the feral momma had had another litter, so she decided to rescue them. She ended up adopting him and he is such a sweetheart!

+Mary Moser I'd never trimmed before, but now my cat is getting old he's not keeping them at a good length himself so I've had to start trimming them so they don't grow around in a circle and puncture into the pads of his feet. Grooming, including nail clipping is one way young kittens start the process of socializing. Making them, in the end much more adoptable. And frankly, cat's nails just like Humana fingernails after cutting...will grow back; Jake is now 6 years old and doesn't give a rap when I clip his claws.And when done right, as this lady is doing, the kitties are not harmed in any way. What a stupid comment, saying this lady was cruel. I don't see her in the least bit mishandling the little guys.

He will literally sit at the edge of the couch looking at you waiting for you to do it. just so people understand clipping a cats nails is different then declawing. clipping is just keeping them trim because if they are to long they could get hurt. declawing is taking the actual nail out.. so it's not cruel to cut a cats nails. . these little guys look like they are gonna do well.
@sofiaferraro11777 жыл бұрын
they can't get hurt! is their nature! when they're young they learn to use their claws and to be gentle playing. if you cut them at this stage 1) they can't easily grab toy and that's frustrating 2) don't learn to play without hurting 3)don't learn to scratch and take autonomous care of they nails.. seen grown many house-cat and never get problem from their nail (maybe some forniture ruined but don't get a cat if that's a problem!)
@animequeen787 жыл бұрын
Sofia Ferraro You idiot, housecats need their claws trimmed. If their claws aren't trimmed, especially dewclaws, the claws can grow in and cause a nasty infection. Do your homework on cats before you spew your PETA-humping garbage on the internet.
@sofiaferraro11777 жыл бұрын
first you opinion value 0 because you started insulting me 2) i'm talking of my direct experience ok.. my family always had cats, my friend and my parents have cats. none of those cat was EVER trimmed and i ensure you NOBODY i know has ever had a problem with that.. i've never seen a cat get stuck or hurt (just kitten playing but they learn growing) here is almost strange to trim a cat claw and even vet doesn't do nor tell you ti do that in normal visit! maybe your cat can't care of themselves because you never let them learn how to, you idiot?
@sofisaramew7 жыл бұрын
could you be any more ignorant? you talk about your experience as if it is the only possible truth. your cats did just fine without nail trimming? thats great! but there are plenty of cats who get infections if they nails dont get trimmed, and there is a big list of problems than can occur. and the reason vets don't tell you to do this or that is because it's a person preference; some people do, other people don't. and it being strange where you live? its because opinions change from a society to another. where i live, everyone trims their cats nails. does that convince you? no. then why should the opposite convince anyone? just say you care more about being right than about cats and GO.

Great demonstration of how to patiently but firmly manage a very young, worried kitten. Nail trimming is very important because the kitten can harm the other kittens with the nails or even themselves---never mind us---they can scratch eyes and so forth. I trim the front and back nails both. Kittens love to kick-play...the needlepoint kitten nails can injure the other kittens, so you trim! And the younger you start, the better! Just be conservative with the trim and patient, patient, patient. Don't be afraid to scruff, it's a vital tool in your kit. You will be rewarded when the cat allows nail trimming because they learn it will not hurt them...I have four cats, one of them a former feral (she's 16 now), all rescues...and I was the first person trimming their nails for any of them. I have had many beloved cats. Depending on the scenario, I got them as young adults, as adolescents, as senior cats...with one right now that was acquired in February 2017 as a half-grown kitten, which is unusual for me---getting a kitten. Kittens are so easy for people to instantly love, I go for the adult cats that are homeless, because they need more help than kittens do just to get adopted. A black cat would get special preference in the scheme, because people don't adopt them readily. Well, my blended cat family plan has worked for me...all cats got the lessons of nail trimmings and scratching posts and were able to cope nicely. As I said, the kitten was an unexpected addition, but because she survived a horrid case of distemper at her rescue (20 of the other kittens died that came from the same hoarder that had her; it has a 95% kill rate), she was a miracle kitten to me, with only a mild case of "wobbly kitten", and I felt my cat family could help her with the journey. She was fostered out to me, immediately started climbing the cat furniture, playing like a crazy thing, and doubled her size in a month! Was able to get her spayed at seven months old. (She had been too tiny and sickly before that to be spayable.) She just turned one year a week ago...she is splendid and my other cats taught her so much about being a cat with other cats! Be patient, take your time, learn how cats relate to people and other cats, read stuff, love 'em up and feed 'em well...get 'em sturdy cat furniture and good windows to look out of and safe toys and just have a ball with your cats.

What an amazing kitty caregiver. She’s very calming and nurturing. Her patience and love is genuine. The two kitties I have were both strays. My male cat, Mi’el, was a stray kitten walking around a Cincinnati gas station begging for help. It was snowing and nasty outside and everyone ignored him. I was staying at a motel so I took the little guy with me and bought a disposable litter box, wet and dry kitten food, spring water and some lactose free milk. When I got to the hotel I turned the lights down and let him eat, drink, pee, poop. Whatever he wanted. I was going to take him to a local shelter in the morning because I didn’t particularly like felines. However......when he got finished eating and doing his business I heard plucking sounds from the mattress then felt his tiny cool pads from his paws creeping up my leg. He curled up on my chest and went to sleep!! After that, there’s NOOOO WAY I could’ve taken him anywhere but with me. 5 years later he STILL sleeps on my chest and he’s turned out to be the most lovable family member I’ve had the pleasure of being with. Sugar, my other other half is his best friend. At night, once he’s slept on my chest for a few minutes he walks his rounds to make sure the house is ok then curls up with Sugar and drifts off to kitty dreamland............

My sweet cat, that we adopted and know nothing about her past, came running over to look for the kitten. She only does this with kitten sounds!! I have to turn off the sound and assure her she is fine.

The stupid woman in this video is achieving NOTHING other than teaching cats to distrust humans.
@TheTrueLeafless6 жыл бұрын
Actually it comes up to what options the cats have. For house cats a proper scratching tool like a scratching post (actually several) should be provided. Cutting can be necessary if they show unusual growth for their own comfort. For this reason I check them regularily and my 2 girls by now take good care of it themselves, yet it is important to train it, so that if it becomes necessary they don't struggle against it(which they don't)...and I hate it more than they do by now because they know they get their favorite treats afterwards (tuna/beef heart).

TheTrueLeafles Cats have been around for millions of years longer than humans, so cats have never needed humans to cut their claws.

What a little guy. Long story but 5 years ago or so, I picked up 5 kittens on a country highway. It was fate because I was on the wrong road. In addition, I had stopped because I saw an adult cat (The mom) but she would not let me move towards here. For whatever reason, as I was walking back to the truck, I decided to look back again.... and 5 kittens jumped out of the weeds and started walking down the center of the highway towards me. They let me scoop them up, but I could not corral the mom. The kittens were very friendly and there was a house nearby.... I am wondering if they had human contact, but they needed vet care and the mom was wild. Anyways, they lived with me as I raised them and socialized them. And Cache Creek Animal Rescue found homes for the 4 boys and little girl. They said the kittens were the best kittens they ever had yet, parting with them was the most difficult thing I have ever done.

bg147 I cannot have a kitty anymore. Allergies nowadays keep me from doing so. I do love animals. But it always makes me glad whenever human beings take responsible care of their pets and other animals.

My mother tells the story of taking me to get some allergy test when I was, oh, about 14 or so. She says they put pin pricks all over my back in a pattern to find out what caused my allergic reactions. Turns out I was allergic to our cats. And when the doctor came back and told us this news, mom said I looked the doctor in the eye, my eyes narrowed and I said "So. What." in a quite hostile tone of voice. And to this day, I take Zyrtek for allergies. Because I'm allergic to cats? So. What.

She's obviously doing a great job. The feeding thing was clearly skilled: she got some in his mouth, waited for him to realize it was good, then pet him. She didn't overclip the nails (a huge issue) and she generally helped socialize him. Well done.

"Clipping a kittens nails is just CRUEL! They don't deserve it!" cause we can all clearly see that she is a cruel person. Taking feral kittens into her home when their chances of survival were dwindling by the day CRUEL! Feeding them as well as giving them all their proper shots so that they can live healthy lives CRUEL! Petting them and being the only creature to show them any type of compassion apart from their siblings CRUEL! We need to call PETA before this monster helps some more kittens!

To those who say "YOU SICK LADY, YOU DECLAWED THE POOR KITTEH!" and "SHE DIDN'T CLIP THE KITTEN'S CLAWS, SHE DECLAWED HIM!", *SHE. DID. NOT. DECLAW. HIM.* Okay? Declawing is removing the claws, while trimming is shortening the claws... Grow the fuck up and do some research, people...

I've been adopted by a feral boy, just arrived at my door 3 months ago, I have bought him, a state of the art cat box, 3 huge cat , soft cat blankets, and he gets better fed than I do, the reward ? Hearing that Purr, no amount of money could equal that feeling.
