These, the A1 and Fabia are my bread and butter. So easy to work on, if it’s a Cat N front ender then all the parts basically just fall off with a few bolts. This one you have is probably the cleanest red one I’ve seen in a long while, especially in that basic S spec…usually Flash Red ends up a different colour on every panel. Test a USB cable in that Sony stereo, as it might be the AX1000 with the CarPlay and a few extra quid on it for you/an easier sale.

my daughter had one of these for her 1st car ( 1200cc / 3 cylinder/2010 MY ) with 50k miles bought for £6k in 2017 from the bank of Mum & Dad 🙂- The head gasket , timing chain and valves had to be replaced after the chain tensioner lost its oil pressure after it wasn't driven for for 3 weeks - apparently these engines are notorious for this happening if the tensioner has lost pressure if it has been sitting for a while and it is then started. She sold it in 2022 with 80k miles for £4.3k , so not too bad for 5 years motoring. MPG wasn't particulary good for 1200cc /3 cylinder car - mid 30's.

The 3 cylinders in the 9N3 from 2006- 2010 were a ticking time bomb, cracked heads, oil leaks onto the manifold causing a little fire under the bonnet.

I bought one of these brand new in 2010, high spec; was an absolute nightmare, nothing but issues (timing chain issue at 28,000 miles), and after owning several VWs, this one was the reason I have never owned another VW since!

That's probably correct. Some car dealers do charge more for there stock then it's worth. My 2015 vitara I bought last May has already lost about £3000.

Timing chains have been known to stretch and fail about 80,000 in 3 cylinder vw 1.0 and 1.2

As per adleast one previous comment, VW engines from this time are well known for timing belt issues.. I've got a Skoda Rapid 1.2 @ 57000 miles.. Just had it's timing belt changed due to Timing Chain Rattle!

My mum had one of these 1200 3 pops they like to misfire and have issues with the head gasket and cylinder head which would explain that lovely bill you have avoided 😂 , on a side note she did have the car for 10 years 4 of which were changing spark plugs so the misfire would go away strange engines tbh

Have the 9n3 polo bought it for my lad, 2 months in it misfired due to piston rings failing, vw advice is to throw away engine and buy another as its not rebuildable. Anyway 1 engine rebuild on my driveway later and a new timing chain and its running again....just awaiting a camshaft oil seal and its back 🙃.

Alcohol hand gel to remove tree sap, any cheap one, worked for me with x4 different cars parked under a Cedar tree during hot summers. 1987 Porsche 911 dark Met blue, New 2016 Fiat 500 white, new 2015 Fiat Panda solid Black, 1993 Jag XJ6 in Kingfisher Blue pearlescent . All superb an saved £££'s in detaing.

The less cylinders you got, the more torque you got. You are right. My dad had an '03-plate Lexus IS 200. Six-cylinder N/A 2.0 injection engine. It sounded glorious. But it was very thirsty and gutless. Ditto smaller BMW sixes.

Don’t let the chuffing finance companies walk all over you. Get your customers to sign a detailed written condition report on any car you sell to them and sign a similar report on their trade in. Tell the finance companies to swivel when they come back to you with any sorts of mechanical issues unless it’s supported by a qualified independent consultant vehicle inspection specialist that has a good reputation. Your a nice guy, in fact your too nice when it comes to people buying a secondhand car that they then treat you like it’s a brand new car with a manufacturers warranty. Play hard ball with the cheeky punters that try to get one over on you, after your 3 month or 6 month warranty expires. Make sure you scan the car for all known faults that you have repaired before handing it over and keep a copy of the report, that way you can see if anyone has been twatting about with car. I hate it how the system is all in favour of the punter, but you need to push them back very hard and say no, we will not be repairing your car. You don’t need the stress from these scum bags.
