Interesting that the workers do this procedure from inside the hold and not from some kind of cherry picker or gantry so as not to be wading around in the chemical and whatever deposits remain from the previous cargo. Do the holds on most cargo ships have drains that can be opened to drain away the water and chemical being used?

I work in there and yes all hoats are required to have drains . We use generators with pumps for faster results

James Hetfield So what type of chemical is being used for this and roughly what pressure is being used? I can only assume it must be environmentally friendly given that it gets drained away.
@SlashvsAdamSadler9 жыл бұрын
tomcatter11 The chemicals they use depends on the company cleaning the boat . It's basically a sort of solution added to the water they use to clean the cargo hold . The pressure comes from the generators but the water is disposed water , not safe for drinking so there is no waste here . Some boats have special drains that puts the dirty water in water tanks , to later be throwned in "legal" drop zones .

Just dump it in the ocean where nobody will see. Out of sight out of mind. Cheap and dirty.

The video show petcoke cleaning for a grain standar. There is any way to remove previous cargo like clinker or lime with the same product than the one u use to remove the petcoke?, When holds are in bad condition, normally previous cargo could appears behind the peeling paint due to the action of cleaning products at bulkheads. Grain standar will never accept residues of any cargo !!!! PS: and in reference with old stains that are normally visible on bulkheads, there is any product to remove them in order to reach the Grain Standar?

Was the dirty water treated before it was pumped overboard?
@kashif77088 жыл бұрын
its not required by Marpol... we can pump it out directly 12 nautical mile away from land as per annex 5 of Marpol

Pet-coke is the sludge left over after refining crude oil. Next up the food you eat. Makes me sick.
