Bless you! It’s grannies like us that are keeping the gift of song alive! There is nothing more soothing to a child than a singing voice, especially directed towards them in particular. My little grandson used to listen rapt when I sang Under The Bamboo Tree to him… “ cos I luv a you and luv a you true and if you will luv a me…” Now he’s 18 and in the British Army and he remembers… Grannies rock! I am so happy to have this show up. It was a childhood memory I had totally lost. It was sung and acted out at our church summer camp with the boys doing Henry and the girls Liza and our fearless camp counselor Hank leading and doing the rhythm on his big barrel chest. We would laugh so hard. Especially when Henry asked what to cut the straw with. We were country kids and knew very well that straws we utterly useless as stoppers, and of course could easily be broken with a fingernail. We had no idea anyone outside our church camping summer kids even knew this song.
