We are now in season 7
In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.

Thank you for the informative video. I have 3 thru hull valves replaced yesterday. My Bav 36 is 2002 model and 2 brass valves were original. I am glad that I did not have a problem in the last 7 years during my ownership. Greetings from Turkey. 🙋🏻‍♂️

Thanks for another helpful video, we only have 5 seacocks on board, 2 are Blakes Bronze from 1982, original and apart from light lapping work perfectly. The other 3 are DZW and all are being changed to Trudesign (one DZW broke and was clearly close to failing when I removed it and the other two were a little better) - so far easy to fit and they work. None are in any area where they are subject to anything hitting them, so we decided against a collar as they are pretty robust. So far pleased with them, but will know better after a season or two.

I crewed on an Oyster 56 and at some point we were hauled out for general maintenance including new CopperCoat. Just before hauling out we discovered that one of the main raw seawater stop cocks wasn't closing all the way so we had to replace that 3" one. I can. tell you it involved a lot of sweat, swearing and some blood to get that 20 y/o fitting out of the hull. It was replaced by a plastic one and still going strong as we speak.

@@SVImpavidus yes I agree about there is not much consideration about maintenance in the building of the older Oyster's, as I have similar situations. I have been in contact with after sales about seacocks and they told me the actual valves are Brass and not Bronze. Is that so ?? As I am looking to change a few and looking for Bronze. The through hull's are Bronze though... What is recomended ??

Changed all through hulls on our 361 to Trudesign (fantastic plastic) last year - no issues so far. She stays in the water all year and have recently had her dried out for a day to clean and antifoul - all through hulls were very clean and no sign of any growth on them. 👍

@@SVImpavidus I went for them as a neighbouring boat in marina changed over a few years before - similarly they have had no issues at all. For info the area we are in has a lot of muscle and oyster farms so there is a lot of growth at times of bloom, so we’re really pleased with them given this.

I have 1 plastic. It's only one year in place (Toilet) . So far, everything is ok.

Good video Ant. Many moons ago in a previous reincarnation when working for the grey funnel line we used to change 25% of all the underwater valves every docking so over a period of ten years that was all valves changed - then start again - I do not know what they do now,😉👍⛵️

I think this is a great subject that we could really do a lot on. Especially on Aluminium boats, and wooden boats. Modern materials are looking good long term but I dont see a lot of evidence for the testing. I'll keep one eye open and see what I can find to do and update at some point. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
