Very good. That second method you used with the terracotta pot, was something similar to what I made. I used an old Calor Gas bottle. They don't give you your deposit back, so I kept it and made use of it. I connected the copper pipe to a radiator. Based on the assumption that hot water rises, I was able to heat a room after I'd modified the radiator. I was going to plumb it into the central heating, but she, who must be obeyed, wouldn't let me.

@Jack_Warner

@@HolicCreation Just one other point I forgot. You would need to lag (insulate) the pipe leading to the radiator, as it would lose a lot of heat if it was travelling to an upstairs bedroom. I've made a couple of wood burners from Calor Gas bottles, and I thought of the radiator accessory when watching another video years ago.

You're absolutely right! Cloudy and cold days can limit the effectiveness of solar-based systems. That's one of the challenges in certain climates. Have you considered combining solar with a backup heating system for those days, like a wood stove or electric heater?
@rayrussell6258
@rayrussell6258 Ай бұрын
This is a novelty, but don't rely on it for hot water to cook with or to drink. Mold will form in the containers over time, from leaves and other airborn debris, and will travel through the lines. There was good reason historically why gas and electric water heaters were invented to work with municipal water systems.
@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation Ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! You're right, maintaining cleanliness in solar water systems is crucial, and mold or debris can indeed be an issue over time. Regular cleaning and filtration can help mitigate that. While gas and electric water heaters are reliable, solar options offer an eco-friendly alternative. I'm always looking for ways to improve the design-do you have any suggestions on how to enhance this system for safer use?
@rayrussell6258
@rayrussell6258 Ай бұрын
@@HolicCreation Sorry, but no suggestions required, because gas and electric water heaters require none of that and are already safer. There is no compelling reason to switch to something that requires MORE work. The Earth has functioned quite well for eons of years, and will go on functioning quite well without switching to far less efficient solar. My comment was essentially warning people to not switch, because of the strong potential for new health issues.

I really appreciate both the cleverness of this design and the demonstrated craft skill. But, really, it looks like a Boy Scout merit badge project. How long do you imagine those plastic jugs are going to last at those temperatures in a high UV solar flux environment? In just a few years all of that work is going to have to be redone. I didn't pay enough attention to see how they were going to interconnect the fire jug with the solar part. No doubt both will provide hot water for a time but does anyone expect to have to build a fire to take a shower in the morning?
@HolicCreation
@HolicCreation Ай бұрын
You bring up some excellent points! 🌞🔥 Plastic jugs probably aren’t built to survive that high UV exposure and heat for long-those things will likely start cracking before you know it. And yeah, the idea of building a fire every morning for a hot shower feels a little... rustic, to say the least! 😅 Definitely seems like a short-term solution at best. Have you come across more durable alternatives that could work better in a solar setup like this?

Thanks for the suggestion! Adding an AI voice to explain the project in more detail could definitely help viewers understand the process better. I like the idea of expanding on the concepts behind the hot water system and diving deeper into how it works. It might give a clearer picture and make the videos more engaging. Would you be interested in hearing more technical explanations or practical uses for these kinds of systems?

It's unfortunate that some renewable energy setups face restrictions in certain areas. It can be frustrating when local regulations make it harder to implement sustainable solutions. However, smaller DIY systems like this can sometimes offer a more flexible approach without attracting too much attention. Have you considered other alternatives that might be more permissible in your region? There might be creative ways to work within the rules.

dappeken3115 !

Cooking potatoes in foil while showering using a coiled copper tube in a BBQ pit is an inventive multitasking idea! The heat from the BBQ can circulate through the coiled tube, heating water for a quick shower while also cooking food like potatoes at the same time. It's an energy-efficient technique for outdoor enthusiasts or people who enjoy combining DIY systems with cooking. Have you ever tried combining heat sources for multiple purposes like this?

The ends of your reflector half barrel will rot out in less than a year in a wet climate like here in the UK .
