For anyone interested the plane did indeed crash land in Shetland in 1981. It crashed due to landing gear failure. The aircraft suffered damage on landing and as a result it wasn't economically viable to repair it. No one was seriously injured.
@niek55265 ай бұрын
Because of bad weather the aircraft diverted to Sumburgh. On approach the pilot tried to lower the landing gear but all three gear legs remained up. The aircraft overshot and circled while the pilot used the emergency manual system, but only the right-hand leg extended and locked. Further attempts to lower all gear legs were without success and the pilot made a gear-up landing. The main cabin door could not be opened but the occupants evacuated the aircraft via the overwing emergency exit. Damage was minimal and once lifted onto its undercarriage, the aircraft was moved to a stand. It remained there for some months until a French team arrived to remove the four Astazou engines and other useful parts. What was left was abandoned in a quiet part of the airport. It remained there for 26 years until the runway was extended, but instead of being scrapped it was saved and now resides in a private garden in North Roe in the north of Shetland.

The aircraft with the registration number F-BMCY is a Potez 840, which experienced a significant incident on March 29, 1981. Operated by the Club Aéronautique de Paris, the aircraft was forced to divert to Sumburgh Airport in the Shetland Islands due to poor weather. During the approach, the crew encountered a technical problem with the undercarriage, leading to a belly landing. Despite the challenging situation, all seven occupants survived uninjured, but the aircraft was deemed damaged beyond repair.

Clune Park was a thriving community in the late 19th century and early 20th century when shipyard workers needed accommodating for during a busy era in the business. A primary school was built in 1887 to teach the worker's children. The church beside it was built in 1905 in a Gothic style. The Clune Park area consisted of 430 flats in 45 four storey tenement buildings. The majority of the flats were small, with 69 bedsits, 310 one bedroom flats and 51 two-bedroom flats. As a result the area had one of the highest densities of housing in Inverclyde. Over the years, the decline in shipbuilding caused many to leave the area. With the apartment population falling, the church closed in 1997 with the school following suite in 2008

I live in Port Glasgow!! Clune Park street went dowmhill in the 90s/2000s- it was filled with drug dealers and addicts,the houses were even sold on auctions for as little as £2000. Landlords scooped them up,filled them with anyone on dole as they get their rents paid by the government (guaranteed cheque every month for the landlord) and then they let the houses rot , didn't repair them, didn't do them up inside etc. There was murders , someone was killed and body hid in the floorboards too. Its said that those landlords are basically hanging on to them so theyll get bought out for the land as they're too dangerous to live in ,too old and rotted to fix up and make liveable again. You should have went to Ferguson's shipyard,you were right next to it at the statues or Newark Castle was right there too, for history of the town. Also ,its a pity you didnt get any interviews in the auctioneer after the game, the despair would have been amazing to see 😂😂 Enjoyed the video! 🍀🇮🇪

Re- the plane. It remained there for 26 years until the runway was extended, but instead of being scrapped it was saved and now resides in a private garden in North Roe in the north of Shetland

What I don't understand is we complain over and over again about a housing problem, yet thousands of buildings stand empty. Why didn't they use those buildings for new housing before they all rotted away?
@hoixthegreat83595 ай бұрын
the main housing problem is that there aren't houses in areas people want to live. to be blunt, there is a reason why those houses were abandoned-there are few jobs, the shipbuilding and port industries that caused this town to grow are a shell of what they once were. people want houses in oxford, cambridge, london and the like, not here.
@bishopdredd53495 ай бұрын
They do, thst plot is being redeveloped. Have a look at the Glasgow subreddit for flats a s houses with damp problems and bad insulation. That's why some are torn down for redevelopment.
@Blackadder755 ай бұрын
@@hoixthegreat8359 All you say is true, but a better government could still use those areas, by making special advantages for industries that don't have location requirements to settle there, or by moving government business to more remote locations, increasing the workforce. This has worked in my country, when the textile industries died because everything was being made in bangladesh and vietnam, new IT and electronic industries got there instead, with tax cuts or other benefits to make it worthwhile for those companies to make that move.

One of my most memorable vacations ever was a driving tour of Scotland, my wife driving and me partaking of as many drams of single malt per day as possible. From several days on Islay, then working out way up the west side through Oban past Ben Nevis into Inverness, on to Glen Morangie and up to my Castle Varrich near Tongue my forebearers clan Mackay. Damn we missed the ferry to Orkney Islands and Highland Park, maybe next time. Traversing south through Speyside lost count of the distilleries. Did stop for Iain Burnett’s truffles and stocked up, pairs well with so many single malts. Finished up with Stirling Castle before heading to Glasgow to catch the train to London. All of the Scotts we met and interacted with were amazing, welcoming and friendly. Best vacation ever!

I find it so jarring to see this guy in Scotland, after watching his videos for so many years. Funny part is I've lived in a lot of the places he visited, such as Port Glasgow. So many valid points, such as the Clunes estate. Was funny to see the mention of the shipyards decline, as I work in the remaining shipyards left in Glasgow. The industry has dramatically declined, however, recently business has picked up again, due to the new orders of the new line of frigates, for the Royal Navy. Hope to see you back again Bald 👍

The little war memorials across the commonwealth really help tell the story of the scale of cataclysm which occured in the great war. You can see the massive memorial halls, big plaques in the cities and it leaves an impression, but when you see the little stones in villages with as many as 13 names and there might only be 30 families........ Well, the scale of those 13 suddenly paints a picture more horrifying than a big plaque with 1300 names elsewhere, it suddenly just becomes so much more clear how devastating it was.
