Holidays desperately need fixing in The Sims 4!

Thank you! I'm a little (a lot) slow, but I noticed the other day how embarrassingly American coded the "Grand Meal" is. It would be really cool if we could select from a menu, like in Dine Out (where you choose a restaurant's menu), what one can choose for Grand Meals. There are so many more special meals in the game now, from many different cultures, it would be lovely to be able to select from those and have it count. My Sim fixed himself a wrapped fish dish, and the moodlet he got mentioned it was a meal fit for a king. If that's not a meal appropriate for a holiday, I don't know what is! It looked really extravagant too. My father was an immigrant. We don't even eat typical American holiday faire at Christmas, so this idea really speaks to me. Thinking about it now, I'm amazed they were so narrow in their thinking. Come on Maxis, this is an INTERNATIONAL game!

@@EnglishSimmer I'm always on the lookout for holiday traditions and club activities ( mods keep this game alive for me). Even things like, having a class reunion day or alumni day or family reunion day don't have specific in game traditions!!

My favorite holiday to create is Mardi Gras. I have my Sims wear costumes, drink, party and fight. The next day is Lent where they fast and clean up.

One of my biggest disappointments with holidays was when I tried to trick or treat for a spooky holiday, and my sim's kid was not allowed to go door to door... all other kids could do it, teens could do it, why can't your own child sim go door to door?

2:58 i love to add “Tell stories” to my holidays activities, i just wish there were more specific interactions that unlocks tied to the actual holidays that you are celebrating instead of saying “tell a funny story” over and over

7:06 i think there should be an option in game to click on the food you cooked and set it as “grand meal” this way every dish could be a grand meal for the holidays, and they should add all the grand meal dishes into the normal cooking panel imo. Or maybe adding the option “grand meal” into the size of the food you wanna cook (im talking like 4 portions, 8 portions and grand meal idk its maybe 10?12?, bc i think the grand meal itself is more tied to the “portions” of food than the actual dish itself) this way i could have like a big plate of pancakes for 10 sims while still counting as a grand meal dish, that would be fun

Yes yes yes to everything you just said! I have been waiting for my sims to be invited to a friend or a family birthday party for years now! Or the possibility to be asked out for dinner or anything else but city living festivals. Not to talk about the possibility to be invited to a wedding!!! The game feels just so dead without these small details.

Yes, thank you, streamline CORE systems so they balance better. One of Sims 4’s biggest problems is all its unbalanced core systems. This might mean more things that are pack locked have to become base game, but right now we have systems on top of systems that SHOULD work together but DON’T work together. And for a LIFE sim pack locked experiences just don’t work. Like lifestyles is forever frozen in how it was designed for Snowy Escape and we have gotten many more packs since then. Many of the mods I have are JUST for cross pack integration. Including the ones that add more holiday traditions.

I would love a holiday refreash. It would be so good to have more traditions that line up with new packs and activities. The other refreash I am desperate for is photography poses - half the ones in game are useless, especially selfies.

I have a starter save mostly because I have a lot of custom holidays. There’s no way to import holidays into a new save.

I Agree! Would a holiday Stuff pack be an idea? Hmm... It would need at least about 10 new unique holiday events. Along with 4 or 5 new objects linked to each event. Add to that new interaction requirements that linked to several newer packs. Like a New event - Remember old Lovers Day holiday event, that would be linked to Lovestruck pack activities - like wear a sexy costume requirement to a bar as part of the event requirements. Adding New events like that tie-in to new packs could liven-up the old Holidays system.

When i play with aging off, i sometimes add birthdayfest to my calendar to age up young sims into the next life stage. Infants and toddlers age up every birthdayfest, children and teens every second birthdayfest. YA and older may take 5 or 6 birthdayfests to age up, instead attending birthdayfest parties of known/related children and teens.

Love watching another video from my favourite KZbinr TheHobbiesStanSimmer (like I'm actually not kidding every single time you bring up hobbies I'm like LOUDER FOR THE SIMS TEAM/EA IN THE BACK!!!!) You are so right about so much of this video. Also your holiday ideas are really fun. Also I'm pretty sure what you said about the longer you play a save the less the invites happen because I started a new save in the summer and I was so surprised cause I'd forgotten those things could happen and they happened like, all the time.

This! I would honestly be so happy if they said they would only release kits in 2025 so they could concentrate on fixing, updating and refreshing the current game. We are desperate for the depth, quirkiness and chaos of previous versions. (We're also desperate for spiral stairs and a colour wheel, thank you please)

Totally agree refreshes would be so welcome and needed. Spa day was good and I did buy it after refresh but an odd choice for refresh 😅 and Boxing Day is peak

Candles! I miss a regular candle for the festive lighting tradition. A candle that is not a menorah tied to a specific religion. I would also like more options for grand meals. I like grand meals but there is not enough variety. Why is there no integration between 'wear costumes' and the spooky pack? Can we please turn off the automatic holidays permanently? I have cancelled pirate day and neighbourhood brawl day dozens of times already. Great video. You have a lot of valid points.

Just to clarify I have nothing against menorahs. I want to have my sims light a candle but I can only do so with candles that are tied to someone else's religion. I would like to light a candle without using the menorah because I don't want to insult anyone by using a menorah in a wrong context.

It would be lovely if there were more options for what you can do for the holidays. It does feel limited and repetitive. Regarding the "grand meal", they need to add some more options. There are vegetarian and pescatarian options, but we need more variety. For example, the game has a standing rib roast which would be great as a "grand meal." Some of the other gourmet and regular foods would also make good "grand meals." I follow how often the mods for things like this break. I don't trust ones that don't get updated with each update from EA.

The problem is the PC Police. There is a group walking around the woods trying to suck the fun out of everything. Proper pronouns, Proper skin and hair color. It's a video game not real life. Seek professional help.

This game would still be a suburban white American simulator if people hadn't spoken out about the lack of diversity in the game. And I could argue that having multiple cultures of people represented in the game has actually helped the gameplay to feel that much more in-depth and fun. IT's nice to learn about other people that have different lifestyles from your own. We don't all live in bubbles of people that look like us. Globalization certain has its benefits too like having more empathy for others and an increased awareness of social issues around the world.

So you want the game to be LESS immersive and less fun? The variety in the game makes it actually fun to play. I think the person who needs to seek health is the person worried about the fact that others want the game they opaid a ton of money for that claims to be a life simulatoin to reflect life....
