You may consider getting a stock FPR diaphragm too. That of course is the quick cheap fix. The alternative is to introduce more air via upgraded heads, cams, air intake, intake manifold, etc. Which is always a fun option :)

You could get a Holley Sniper for a few bucks more than that 670. Get a dual plane, vortec-to-tbi manifold, some vortec heads, a mild roller cam, and headers, and you’re not too far from 400hp, and you have a programmer. An Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 port injection manifold/EFI combo or a Holley Terminator aren’t bad choices either for a bit more money.
@KooshdaakaaGarage4 жыл бұрын
For sure. If they had EFI as affordable and effective 9 years ago when I bought the 670, I'd be all over it. I've been looking into the summit racing heads, comp roller cam, and performing some port matching from the TBI to intake manifold - intake manifold to heads. EFI will have to come later on down the road after I finish my Duramax project. For now the ole SBC 350 makes for a damn good hauling rig.
@iDrive4fun934 жыл бұрын
Kooshdaakaa how much power are you getting out of the 670? I was on another thread and it seems the 670 can support a fair bit of power, with a Summit 1103 cam, vortec heads, a chip from TBIChips, Chevy performance intake manifold, and a full exhaust.
@KooshdaakaaGarage4 жыл бұрын
Can't say for sure how much power. I have the jet 6 stage chip, holley tbi, edlebrock intake, shorty headers and 3" exhaust. It was enough to blow the tires off a newer stock ls 6.0 in a straight away. Boy was he pissed! Those summit cams look pretty rad, I haven't seen too many people run them yet. I use my truck primarily for hauling campers, wood, dump runs as well as romping through the mountains on old logging roads so a nice bottom end torq monster cam is what I'm looking for.

Kooshdaakaa awesome, basically what I am looking to do to my truck. A buddy of mine has Vortec heads but he left one of them outside and it needs all new valves, springs, rockers, etc. I would need to get them resurfaced and planed, and then buy an all new valvetrain, so I think I might just buy brand new heads. The cost isn’t far apart and it’s a lot less work. You have the chip already, so an 1102 or 1103 cam would work wonders in your truck. The 1102 has a little more low and mid range grunt, while the 1103 has a bit more up top, but power is increased all through the powerband with either cam.

Hey Steve, I think the Holy 670 should hold up to the test for you. It's a simple, straight forward operation. If you can, I would port match the TBI to the intake manifold so that there is a 1:1 flow ratio. I'm about to port match the TBI to the intake manifold, intake manifold to the cylinder heads, perform a mild port & polish on the heads then match the heads on the exhaust side to the exhaust manifolds. I did a similar procedure on my Duramax and it made a world of difference for idle, smooth acceleration, better fuel mileage and the overall health of the engine feels better.

How’s much of a difference honestly was this unit compared to the stock tbi?
@KooshdaakaaGarage4 жыл бұрын
I upgrade this unit along with the Jet Chip at the same time so as to account for the additional air/fuel mixture and the difference was night and day! I remember the first time I drove it with the new TBI: usually to get up to speed on a merge ramp I have to feed it all the onions to get up to speed and by the end of the merge ramp I'm up to 55. Now it does it in about 2/3rds the time roughly and will noticeably put you back in your seat which in all honestly made me swerve the first time I did it because I wasn't expecting that much of a difference (boy was I wrong). Keeping in mind this is paired with the Jet Chip, Edlebrock Manifold, Shorty Headers and 3" exhaust in a Mr Goodwrench block, the Holley TBI tied it all together so the other parts can take advantage of the extra air and fuel. I"m going to redo the exhaust in the near future and I think I have the heads and cam picked out that I want - should be a fun off road vehicle. THE ONE COMPLAINT my friends and I have when we are daily driving is the accelerator pedal has NO CHILL. As soon as you hit the gas pedal the truck WANTS IT NOW and if you are not paying attention you will break tire. This however, when loaded with my camper translates to nice acceleration under load :) PROS: Tons of power throughout the power range, tons more bottom end torque, way more fun to drive over stock. CONS: uses a little more fuel, driving manners for start and stop daily driving is a little obnoxious because it just freakin wants to get up and go, however, its manageable enough.

Congrats on the ride 🤘 I've had mine for over 10 years now and can't bring myself to get rid of it. They are damn fine rides. The holley tbi combine with a chip did make a noticeable difference over stock. I'll say though that I already had an edlebrock intake manifold and shorty headers so the chip was able to take advantage of the bump in air flow from all the parts combine. If you go the Holley TBI route I highly recommend a chip, the stock ecu have a difficult time compensating for the extra fuel and air. It was about 9 years ago when I bought the TBI and if I were purchasing today I would get the holley "used" if I could get it for a good price. Brand new they cost about as much as an EFI Fitech, or for a few hundred extra you can get some of the other EFI units. All of which are self tuning. That being said, if you want to keep it TBI, the Holley with a chip is a solid choice.

If so, my Holley didn't come with a new bracket, I reused the stock bracket and it mounted right into the edlebrock stock location on the manifold. Or are you talking about mounting the throttle cable to the Holley TBI? Mine has 2 throttle cables and only one will fit on the Holley TBI and that is the bottom cable which is controlled by the throttle pedal. The top cable is for cruise control and the plastic shroud mount thing is too thick to mount up up with the bottom throttle cable. I think the video better illustrates what I'm talking about.

Stage 2 wants the cam and head flow to take full advantage of the tune, its what you would put in an old tbi camero if you were building a fun street rod with a holley tbi, intake, heads, cam, free flowing exhaust. If I were you I would either go straight for the efi setup or I would toss a stage 2 in there to make your engine happier. But the efi would be freakin sweet with what you have setup 🤘

I answered this question in your last comment, but let me elaborate as to why I like the Jet 6 Pack Performance chip. 2 reasons: 1)tow/haul 2) stage 2. Those two settings are my trucks best friend and will allow your truck to account for the additional air & fuel provided by your TBI, long tube headers and additional mods made in the future. Tow Haul makes a noticeable difference on the bottom end torque when hauling my camper around the mountains, and stage 2 is all out hell fire on the street. Plus its nice to be able to lock the tuning in with a key as well as you can set it to "valet" mode which sets the governor at 15mph or you for security purposes you can turn the fuel pump completely off and lock it in that setting until you are ready to change it back. www.jegs.com/i/Jet/561/292196P/10002/-1?gclid=CjwKCAjwzIH7BRAbEiwAoDxxTq0hduuD3zXTs11BM9ufBoAK2RjPpMGqGQBN73fUQaVa_sQ8qPTOcxoClCoQAvD_BwE

@@KooshdaakaaGarage ummmm i dont even know how to reply to this the these heads are not the best at anything other than keeping your boat in one spot on the water with a chain welded to them... engine rpm has nothing to to with head flow heads flow the same at 10k rpm as they do at idle valve lift is what changes head flow and a small 175cc intake port with with a 2” valve would make a great torque head remember what the tuned port heads heads came on? Yeah a tuned port they ran out of steam at 4000 rpm and made TONS of torque from idle to 4000 just what you are looking for! But that being said the heads have way less to do with torque than cam and intake selection do... my buddy built a 406 for his 92 chevy 2500 with ported dart pro 1 aluminum heads (way bigger than stock tpi heads) and a performer carb manifold with a adapter plate and a 52mm bored tbi unit with the proper cam selection for the application! that thing will pull a house down i used it to pull an all steel 20’ car trailer and my crx and you literally cant tell its back there its easy double the hp of the 350tbi the heads cam and tbi unit flow are the limiting factor of a tbi engine! @KooshdaakaaGarage3 жыл бұрын
All very valid points my man! I have no doubt about what you say with the exception of rpms not making a difference. What I'm after is maximizing velocity of exhaust flow at low rpms. The amount of exhaust flow at 1200 rpms will be different than 6000 rpms. Turbo applications make this point. My turbo on my lb7 doesn't spool up at 1200 rpms, it doesn't have the velocity too... but it spools amazing at 1600 and gets better with higher rpms/higher velocity exhaust gases. We don't want too big of ports on an engine that needs to perform at or under 2500 rpms with a truck and camper climbing old logging roads. The huge ports will kill the velocity which destroys scavenging. That's where the swirl ports excel. Tow/haul and fuel economy. And when the cfms are measured they actually are close to rhe old double humps. What I have slated for 5bis truck is a port match job all the way through and a nice mild roller cam. The ole girl will be a nice wood hauling, camping hauling alaskan mountain beast! Old HeadBytes (an old school KZbin hot rod performance port and polish master) loves these old heads for truck application. I love them too for up in mountains, having used them as well as other trucks. Point is.. I own them. They flow great and make tons of power on the bottom to mid range, is great for camper hauling up steep grades, and if I mess up the port job and need new heads, I'll take you up on your advice and give it a shot 🤘🙂

Luckily the 92s as well as the mr goodwrench short block I put in this thing about 11 years ago has the provisions for roller cams. I'm thinking a nice mild yet high velocity on the low to mid range comp cam like the 08-408-8. Or I remember seeing a 4x4 series a few years back, the 411 looked like a nice fast ramping roller cam capable of decent velocity for low rpm mountain crawling.
