@@crewyou07 thankyou for your time. I got ahold of a 350 tbi distributor plug it right back into the harness and coil. I have a manual so that doesn't matter but the distributor? Using the electronic distributor, was that wrong, I was trying to think it would plug right back into the harness. I don't have a timeing light so I did it by ear and iv only test drove it once besides a countless start ups and a couple burn out, at WOT it seems to be right but like I'm asking I'm wondering if I did wrong? Haven't heard of this done and all videos and forms people have put a vacuum advance hei distributor in. I just don't know shit about wiring and was scared of fucking up so I got the tbi distributor? I appreciate this video. I bought a 1988 Chevy R30 dump truck that the previous owner did a tbi to carb swap on. It does not run very well. It sat for 2 years after the swap was done. I think that is part of the problem. I think they also did a poor job of doing the carb swap. This video should help me get it running better.

I didnt realize your truck was 90's style the first time i watched your carb swap, mine is a 94, ive got an update video on the fuel system, my set up is very similiar to yours as far as the holley carb and tps goes, i know that a transmission computer was put in and wired up and the engine in mine is a 1984 454. So as far as the engine goes, i pretty much bypassed all the electronic stuff

Just finished this conversion on my 1990 K2500 w-700R4 tranmission. I have only driven it about 15 miles so far and it is running great. Used all the major parts that you used. I used the Holley TV cable bracket for the transmission and it seems to be shifting fine but I don't believe the torgue converter will lockup until I install a torque converter lockup kit like the TCI 376600. Has anyone else needed to install this kit. Thanks for the great videos and the parts list!

Hey Kevin, was going through some comments and here is one I stumbled on, I forgot I had addressed this problem before and commented on it in another video, Here it is ; Hello Arron, I am not familiar with your MSD 6AL distributor, I just did a quick search on it tho. It looks looks that distributor has a separate tach output. So I would say no, you cannot. When I read the wiring instructions it looks like you need to splice the purple and white wire to the red wire on your MSD unit. I did read that the red wire needs a switched power source which the purple and white wire is.

Great video is everything still working out good with the carb swap and is the transmission still doing good without any problems, just wondering if swapping to a carb has hurt your transmission i was reading a article about someone else who carb swapped there 94 chevy k1500 with the 4L60E and the trans went out about 1 year later they blamed the carb swap but i think it was probably just lack of maintenance or something else that had nothing to do with just swapping to a carburetor.

Good day again TM, I have had no issues with my 4L80e transmission after I addressed the shifting issues when I first completed the swap, which was a defective TPS I got with my bracket kit from Holley ( make sure you set the TPS parameters correctly .5 to .7 at idle ) also make sure the trans speed sensors are working properly. I found broken wires on my speed sensor at the tailshaft. Those were my issues. I suggest watching all my videos on the swap because I go into detail on all the issues I ran into and my fixes.

Hello Sheldon,the purple and white wire (it could also be blue) is located at the connector that plugs into the bottom of your factory distributor. It needs to be wired to a switched power source in order for your fuel pump to energize. I ran mine to the port marked "Tach" on the early model GM HEI distributor that I used for my conversion. I am considering carb swap on my 89 C3500 dually flatbed. It has a Th400 tranny, not the 700R4. Is the shifting control going to change with carb? I bought a used Crate 5.7 which had an Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake. There is a transition plate, a Power Tower, then the stock TBI. I know I will need an HEI distributor, a fuel pressure regulator with gauge, and a carb. I have the regulator but need the gauge. I have a 1973 Quadrajet, a 750 cfm model from a Buick with auto transmission. (All that detail is from the numbers on carb body.) My question is does this require a new tranny computer, or not? That might be a deal breaker. I use this dualy flatbed as a hauler, and need some real power at times. I'm also torn about going to carb for loss of the 2 mpg you claimed you lost. This thing drinks gas anyway, and a carb might take me below 10mpg for truck only.

I have a question and need a little help I just did this conversion to my 92 suburban, but I swapped in a 385 stroker motor with a 750 Holley carb with electric choke and I also have a Holley 12-841 fuel pressure regulator. the other day Saturday the 27th I got my first start I started it then turned it off and then started it again and let it run for a min or 2 then it had cut off on its own and since then I tried to get it running again but it fires and just shuts off. So I am thinking I got an fuel issue I got the purple and white wire hooked up to the tach port but I dont think the pump is staying on maybe. I want to ask do I suppose to also have that white wire from the coil hooked up to the tach port also? Tomorrow morning I am thinking of proving my theory that the pump not running after the initial prime after turning the key by hooking a keyed 12 volts source to the pump relay green and white wire but if it still dont run any ideas to why it want stay running maybe I need to tune down the fuel regulator cause I did turn it up the other day or maybe an issue with my carb which I hope not!
@crewyou07
@crewyou07 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Rod, you should only run the one wire to the tach port on your HEI distributor (purple and white) Question, are you using the factory in tank fuel pump? Also did you put a fuel pressure gauge on your regulator? You will be able to look at the gauge to see if your pump shuts off while running or attempting to start.

I don't think your fuel lines are going to last. The electric pump is probably pushing 40PSI and a hose with clamps ain't gonna cut for long - you need to do it with metal line and compression fittings. Keep a close eye on that fuel line as you're likely gonna have leaks.
@crewyou07
@crewyou07 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Marty, The rubber fuel lines I used are reinforced and the clamps are a solid band type not the perforated style. My fuel pump is not pushing 40psi, it is running about 14psi. Also living here in New England I make it a point to treat all the rubber lines in the engine compartment with silicone spray. I have not had any issues, if I do you will be second one to know, Thank you for your comment...

First of all, I am VERY appreciative of your 4 part series of your TBI to carb conversion. I have 1995 2500 chevy truck that used to be diesel and but now has a 454 (gas) big block engine and is carbureted. The guy before me seems like he knew what he was doing but I wanted to run his setup by you and see what you thought. I can post a video soon after I finish installing the heads if you want. Basically it has the original electric fuel pump in the tank, lines go to the mechanical fuel pump on the engine block,(thats the part Im confused about) then that line goes to a regulator, and two lines go to carburetor. Do you think it is safe for about 60 psi fuel to go to a mechanical fuel pump? Seems like I could just have them go straight to the regulator. The system seems to work but Im worried that the mechanical fuel pump will fail and cause gas to flood my engine or something. (Sorry for the story but advice would be appreciated) your setup is very close to mine, I have a Holley carb, but original computer is NOT in the truck. I have a new transmission computer that tells my transmission to shift gears.
@crewyou07
@crewyou07 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Wheless, I am glad you thought the videos were helpful. After reading your comment concerning the way the guy before you ran both the in tank and mechanical pumps is a bit perplexing tho is it a dual feed carb? That would explain the 2 lines. If I were you I would go with just the mechanical pump. That way you can eliminate the in tank pump and the regulator and more than likely get rid any potential for a flooding problem. The only reason I did not go with a mechanical pump is because on my engine the opening in the block for a mechanical pump is non existent. Yes please post a video of your set up I would very much like to see it. As far as the double digit psi going to the mechanical pump before the regulator? Sounds like trouble to me. Tho before you take that to the bank I need to research that plumbing set up. thanks for the kudos and hope the head installation goes smooth.
@Whelessry
@Whelessry 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. The guy who built it is my father in law, it has had a blown head gasket for three years (it just sat in the yard) but he said I could have it. I took the heads off over the weekend and theyre at the machine shop now being cleaned and tested. It is a dual feed carb, multiple lines to go mechanical fuel pump and only one line goes to regulator, im thinking one of the mechanical fuel pump lines go back to the gas tank like a re direction setup but im not sure yet. Its just something I noticed when I was taking the heads off and I knew it didnt look right

@crewyou07 5 жыл бұрын
@@Whelessry Hello Wheless, Have been looking if you posted a video yet of the head refurb on your 454? I re read your post and thought about why one of the fuel lines from the mechanical pump is going back to the tank.
