My 289 with the same Holley on it left me stranded on the side of the road twice. Couldn't keep fuel in the bowls. After several hours I finally found that the rubber plug on the ported vacuum at 7:45 had disintegrated. Used a drinking straw to get home.

@AutoRestoMod8 жыл бұрын
We eventually moved to the ported vacuum on the side of the carb as per Holley's instructions. We were going off of Ford's info for the vacuum advance. After moving to the ported vacuum it ran much better.

Ported vacuum... My understanding is it is only used on some vacuum advance designs, depending on distributor model. Most will never use it. If you need it, you REALLY need it and wont get timing curve to behave well otherwise. The larger port on that base? Handy for modulator on a transmission where the manifold does not have it's own port to hook up.
@AutoRestoMod3 жыл бұрын
I will try both. sometimes ported works better, sometimes manifold.

Fantastic Show!
@adam8888d2 жыл бұрын
In my exsperiance The ported vacuum on the side of the carb is the correct place to hook up the distributor and not the base plate. If you hook up a vacuum guage. You will see the base plate has less vacuum at higher revs and will not advance the timing.

Nice Wagon. I just love the video. I have a 1972 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 400 engine. I'd like to have a pair of headers on it. Do you have any idea who may have a Header for my application?
@AutoRestoMod9 жыл бұрын
+Mauro Pietro Not right off hand. We will say that we are running the manifolds on the 351 and are quite happy. Not sure we'd want to the trade-ff of the day to day hassle of headers for the little bit of power you'd see on a 400. 2.25 dual exhaust with a cross over would probably serve you way better.

trying to figure out jetting, 1967 Pontiac 4 speed HO , stock motor. Running a 670 Holley Street Avenger and moving jets between 65-70 size, what would be a good jet size for this motor, in your opinion
@AutoRestoMod2 жыл бұрын
Honestly it's all in the plug read. If it's a 400 HO then I would say that the 70 jets are a starting point and move up from there.. But it's really going to depend on what the plugs read.

I have a holley 650 double pumper with electric choke and mechanical secondaries. You discuss the ported vacuum port and how it's not necessarily for the vacuum advance for this carburetor. My carb has the power vac port for the brakes in the back and a PCV & Full Vacuum port on the middle of the primary left side, and I also have two vacuum ports below the primary bowl. Should my disty vacuum advance go to the port on the front of this carburetors base plate and not the PVC and full vacuum port which is on left mid front of my carb?
@AutoRestoMod6 жыл бұрын
I'd try the manifold vacuum first. If that is not giving you what you need go ported. But exhaust all your options on the manifold vacuum first.
@jeffmorse31506 жыл бұрын
So here's the cool thing... I put my Holley 600 CFM with vacuum secondaries back on because I wasn't liking the newer 650. I did move the disty vacuum advance to the manifold and I was surprised how well it was running. A much smoother idle and better acceleration than the last time it was on. This was a new carb that I purchased recently too. So I then decided to see if this would work for the 650 cfm. I put it on today and used the same manifold vacuum port and the curb idle was @ 1100 with the screw backed all the way off. I then moved the advance back to the port on the primary and I was able to drop the curb idle down. It seems like it's not getting the timing advance when I'm taking off from a stop. There's a slight hesitation at first but then it wants to come alive and dare you to crack open the secondaries. I have two new carbs now that were purchased direct from Holley. The 600 works great and the 650 has me on youtube looking for answers and working with Holley tech support. Thank you for your youtube post.@@AutoRestoMod

Hey, I have a 1984 5.0 Windsor motor I'm trying to find the best carburetor for my car I bought a Holley 600 series which requires a lot of after market adjustment so my question to you would be what is the best carburetor to fit my stock intake manifold.?? Thanks for reading.
@AutoRestoMod6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by aftermarket adjustments. Most carbs will require tuning to run optimally. Also, is the intake a 2 barrel or 4?
@vhockada7 жыл бұрын
now I see you adjusted the front of the carb when you removed that little copper screw but you didn't do the back screw that's identical why not?

Hey I am curious what type of breather you have for the pcv coming out of the valve cover? thanks
@AutoRestoMod8 жыл бұрын
We use the stock PCV valve and grommet for the Cleveland. The hose is a factory type that attaches to the inlet provided with the air cleaner.
@tictocpops1_2765 жыл бұрын
So where do you hook up your power brake booster vacuum hose?
@AutoRestoMod5 жыл бұрын
Depends on the carburetor. Most Holleys have a port either on the back under the float bowls, or on the passenger side rear of the main plate.

Isn't the bigger vacuum port for the EGR valve hose?
@AutoRestoMod6 жыл бұрын
There is a larger one for EGR on the back of the Holley base plate. On the front passenger (right) side is a port for vacuum.
@danielesilvaggi6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, it's just that the person in the video says he doesn't know what the large port is for. Hence my question.
@AutoRestoMod6 жыл бұрын
The two ports that are right together are both manifold vacuum but the larger port is too large for vacuum advance hose. I THINK it is for things like power brakes...but I'm not totally sure.

My fast idle screw is hitting on the red choke cam and making the throttle stay open??
@AutoRestoMod6 жыл бұрын
Back the screw off, it should only effect idle when the choke is in operation. I've had Holleys that the red cam doesn't retract well. check operation on that and use some Gibbs oil or other light parts oil on it.
