It's great to have a person doing a" how to video" first have a vast knowledge of the subject , and second that they take the time to explain the function of all parts related . So many time i've watched videos of complex jobs like engine or transmission repair or overhaul and they don't let you see what or where they touching as they do the tear down or assemble and they go thru it as if they are in a race .

+Randall Cribb Thanks to the video I was able to get a good idle. The butterflies were open way to far on the front so now I've gotta work on a hesitation when the rear barrels open. I haven tried it since I fixed the idle issue so the hesitation may be gone but I can't imagine the small adjustment on the front barrels would fix that. Do I need a different spring on the diaphragm to get the rear to open at a different rate? Sooner/later?
@randallcribb70158 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Rader , Kevin first make sure your float level is right , next I would try a stronger rear diaphragm spring also you might need to jet up a couple sizes in the rear .Hope this helps if not let me know. Randy

Read your engine vacuum guage, power valve should be half that number for a regular street motor. 13lbs vacuum requires a 6.5 power valve.
@jakefriesenjake2 жыл бұрын
@@donrutter6765 at an idle right? My idle Vac is 5". I should put in a 4.5"pv. If I put in a 8.5", (thats 5" lower than my cruise Vac), when the boosters kick in, that pv is open already, giving me a super rich transition (10 afr)

I'd LOVE to see a video of how to know what accelerator pump cam to choose and what the difference is in all of them.
@donrutter67656 жыл бұрын
Maquarr Steeper the ramp angle the faster the intensity of squirt, if you have a off-idle bog you can try a different ramp, or a different # accelerator pump squirter. Most Holleys dont stumble from too much fuel off idle, they stumble from a lean condition because it takes a split second for the fuel to catch up with the air, because opening the butterflies is instantaneous, but the venturi effect has to catch up carrying fuel.

Hi Randy, Thank you for the great video. From the sound of it, you probably aren't anywhere near northern colorado at 5k elevation. I've got an 85 dodge Ramcharger with a 360, 9.5/1 compression, RV cam, and my small 2 bl Holley just doesn't want to cooperate. It stumbles off the get-go, auto choke doesn't stay on long enough to make it drivable when cold and to make things worse, I had to jet it way down and change the power valve to pass emissions. Any suggestions b4 I install a Holley efi?

+Randall Cribb no I'm in Houston Texas we run arklatex factory stock rules for dirt track, this is our rule for the carb. Cast Holley 4412 -2 barrel only. Must be unaltered. Choke plate may be removed. 4412 must be cast into choke horn of carb. Maximum spacer and adapter 1” combined total. Fuel pump must be in stock location for make, NO electric pumps or fuel injection even if factory equipped.

When you adjust the idle mix screws, is the car in park or drive with foot on brake? Also, my choke won't close?? Could this in any way be causing the plugs to foul? Or just that it's running too rich?

not 100% sure but i think i remember hearing you do it in drive to simulate sitting in traffic since there is more of a load on the engine (if you have an auto trans)

Do not use a power valve that's only like 2" lower than your cruise vacuum. (Cruise 15", pv = 8.5) Sure, once your cruising, it can work, but at low speed when your taking off from a stop light, the power valve will be open at idle (if your idle vacuum is 5"), and once you transition to the boosters, it'll still be open causing waaaay rich! (10 afr). You need a pv that's lower than the idle Vac. (4.5" pv)

+Randall Cribb i have a street avenger 670.i am having issues with. its a fresh rebuild and i fired and broke in new engine with it. ran ok but seemed super rich. i changed nothing in it and now it only sputters voughs and then backfires through carb. i can put my 650 mechanical secondary carb on it and it run fine with only a hard throttle stumble. so i feel its within the 670 somewhere but cannot figure it out. any.ideas? thanks.
@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y908 жыл бұрын
with engine off , open the throttle to see if your accelerator pump is squirting gas , should be two squirts of fuel out of the accelerator pump discharge noozles , looking inside the top of the carburetor with a flash light while opening throttle, if accel. pump not working , its best to remove the carb from the vehicle and remove philips head screw holding accel pump discharge noozle and remove check valve that sets under the screw , lot of times this check valve sticks and needs cleaning , check valve is tapered to a point on one end , that pointed end points down in the carb flat end points up towards screw, you may need to up the size on the accelerator pump discharge noozles .003 thousanths at a time . size of discharge noozle stamped on the housing, if this does not help let me know, hope this helps.

@stupidman97746 жыл бұрын
zach. 800 cfm rodchester uni flow.
@donrutter67656 жыл бұрын
For 400hp you will need a Holley 4777 or 4778. They come with a dash # like 1,2,3,4 etc but that just means the years they progressively added things on or took things off. A 4777 is a 650 double pumper, a 4778 is a 700 double pumper. You dont need a 750 cfm for 400hp, on a 350 you will just be wasting more fuel. If you built an all out race 350, 800 cfm is what you need to get, a 383 race motor will require a 850cfm.
