But with offset dowl pins, how does the bolts for the bellhousing line up?

Now lets see you do it on a small block Ford, with a bellhousing opening 1/3 that size. Nightmare... cut down my dial indicator and my measurements are still all over the place! Basically stuck mounting the magnets on top of the bolts, which obviously doesn't work. Oh ...and I have XXL hands, which adds to the fun.

GEt some longer crank shaft bolts and bolt a plate over the flywheel and mount the magnet on the flywheel .

Is this really THAT important considering that the OEMs don’t do this and that NOBODY bothers to align the transmission to the bellhousing?

And do not use a tap to chase the threads, use the proper tool
