Hollis STS Elite Single Tank Scuba Diving Harness and Wing - First Look

I share a first look at the Hollis STS Elite Harness and Wing for single tank Scuba diving. Even though Rebreather and Side Mount diving are my area of expertise, I have been doing quite a bit of single tank scientific dives in Canada this winter. I am a long-time Hollis Ambassador, however, no one has influenced my opinion or screened this video. Here's my first impression.

I have both style bpw, the hts standard harness. With my torn up shoulders I like the clips, way easier to dawn and doff

Thank you for sharing. Did the weight pockets made it difficult to install or adjust the metal slider holding the should straps to the waist strap at all? I know that the weight pockets are an "add on" to the ST Elite system and wasn't sure of how they would work with the connection of the shoulder straps to the waist strap.

They were quick to install, sliding in place on the waistband. If I dive it in warm water and don't need weight, I just leave them on in any case.

How does one determine the lift capacity of the wing you need? is it a function of how much weight you carry or is there a formula like if I wear 25 # I need X% of that as lift? Also is there a reason to have 2 tank straps rather than one if the backplate is rigid than the second strap is kind of redundant? I haven't been able to get a clear answer on either of these questions before. Thanks,

A 32 pound lift wing will lift 32 pounds of negative buoyancy, but that does not mean a 32 pound weight belt on a person. It is the net negative buoyancy that the lift will counteract. It would lift the belt on its own, but the person's body has a unique buoyancy that is made up of body composition, undergarments, etc.... The two tanks straps are redundant. If one flipped open for some reason, the second strap ensures the tank won't slip out.

Hey Jill. What do you think of the Aqua Lung Omni BC? I ordered one in a custom size for me. Size medium with a Small cummerbund. I had Sizing Issues with the ones the dive shop supplied. The Medium fit for the most part. Waist was Loose. The Small was tight in the shoulder area. And hard to remove and replace by myself. Thank you

Hi Jill, can you recommend a wing for twin tanks? I'm undecided between Hollis DT System and ScubaPro S Tek?

Both excellent manufacturers, but I prefer the straightforward simplicity of the Hollis system. It is less "fussy" and lighter overall for travel. You'll have it for life!

Hello Jill! I am eyeing with this Hollis setup but my concern is that am around 162 cm with small torso and my first thought if the backplate would be too long as mostly standard backplates are. Could you advice me on that? Thank you

I think the best bet is to find a retailer where you can try it on. I am 173 cm, but torsos come in all sizes. For example, women have much shorter torsos than men, so it is difficult for me to advise you.

Hollis SE500 side exhaust with DC7 first stage. Back in 1988, I got an Oceanic side exhaust regulator and this is essentially the same technology. I like the performance and form factor.
