The fact that the creators of hollow knight were able to think of a reason as to why all the signs keep on getting repaired, then draw menderbug, create the noise that menderbug makes when you kill him, and they made his own diary, and they made it so that the sign actually never gets repaired. All for just 1 small detail that barely anybody even knows about. That shows how attention to detail is in this game.

+Mohamed El Kayal it's not required but it's an easy way to make sure he'll die. He'll spawn anyway but he runs away really quickly so you need to make sure you will hit him.

As long as you're breaking the sign every time he should appear regardless of version. Either the sign isn't being broken or you've just been incredibly unlucky.

No it's not, it actually adds an extra slot in the journal just for the mender bug (143/146) to (144/147) or what have you, and is completely optional for unnecessary for 100% completion
