"The old King of Hallownest... he must have been desperate to save his crumbling little world. The sacrifices he imposed on others... _all for nothing."_ The White Palace and its theme are one of the highlights of the game for me. Upon the infection reappearing again, the king fled to the White Palace - Now moved to the Dream Realm. Seemingly not wanting anyone to disturb him anymore, he filled it to the brim with sawblades, spears, and spikes. His retainers solely focused on easing his troubles. In the memory at the end of the Path of Pain, we see a tender moment between him and his chosen vessel. Its heavily implied they bonded, yet he still had to force THK to contain the infection, *knowing* it wasn't pure. The means he had to use to contain the infection he was already distraught over, and now he had to force someone he dearly loved to years of psychological and physical torture. He sat in that throne room wracked with grief for the rest of his life, slowly withering away and possibly taking his own life. He was never able to move on from his regret and grief, and his kingdom-which served as an extension of him-slowly crumbled. He's a cautionary tale of trying to deny time and he suffered the consequences dearly.
@NotXcalibur2 жыл бұрын
White palace is truly my favorite area in the game. Yeah it's short, and not as grand as other areas especially the City of Tears or Ancient Basin, but it just feels so majestic. It really feels like Hallownest in its prime time, even if its only a dream. It goes absolutely unrivaled, and Christopher Larkin made an absolute masterpiece of a track to be paired with it.

Maybe its because I have never played the game myself (watched plenty of LPs), but this is one of my favorite themes. The first explosion into 1:13 and especially the second one into 3:25 never fail to fill me with the sentiment of majesty that would pervade Hallownest at its peak. The build-ups themselves are slow and serene, with the first nevertheless exuding awe and wonder at the eternally preserved beauty of the White Palace. Meanwhile, the second one is much more somber, as if realizing that such glory has no real meaning, for the kingdom itself is no more. I can't quite put it into words how the gap between these two moments make me feel. There's this strange mix of dread, then sadness, then nothing, like I'm experiencing the Pale King's emotions as he sees his great work crumble around him. After all, the palace seems to be inside his dream.

Man I really love this ost. Hornet and Broken vessel will always be a favorite but the white palace is always #1 for me simply because of how bitter and somber the entire thing is. It’s so beautiful but sad once you enter the white palace, especially when you’re well aware that this was a kingdom struggling through a lot of pain and stress and ended with even more pain, but once you get one of the more bigger endings it really hits the spot where you know that it’s all over for everyone involved. It’ll always be my favorite part of this game to get the dream no more ending credits with this playing.

Such a wonderful piece of music, so beautiful and so tragic. I feel the beauty captures the marvel that was once the White Palace as well as all of Hallownest. The tragic aspect of the music I feel captures the tragedy of an abandoned child facing the truth and encountering the father who abandoned him for the first time. Rather than the actual level, this music makes me think of what the White Palace would've been like in "reality", without all the traps etc. What was it like back when the king and queen strolled through the halls on everyday business? Long white hallways, parks, grand throne rooms... And then there's that cutscene at the end of the path of pain that has such enormous implications. Not just on the plot, but what life might've been like when the king was raising his... knight. Feelings of affection that had to be eliminated, lest they doom the entire kingdom... this game is so fucking sad man

The first time through the game, when I got to thk, I got through the first stabbing phase and thought, “oh he’s doing that because it’s leaking more infection for him to help fight” but what I didn’t realize was that what I was seeing was actually him gaining control over his body for a short period of time before he quickly gets shut down by the radience. I feel like the hostility of the White Palace is representative of the Pale Kings state of mind. The palace didnt disappear from the physical world until the Infection returned and the kingdom fell, despite everything the King had done. The entire palace is inhospitable and lifeless except for the royal retainers, and even they can hardly count as alive. The whole palace is the real palace, but its also a part of the pale kings mind, full of saws, spikes, thorns, empty machines, phantom nobility, and the hollowed out corpse of the King himself. When the King hid himself away to drown himself in his regrets, his own home became hostile and painful, we can assume he was hardly able to leave his throne room. At the end of the Path of Pain there is a memory of the moment there was an "idea instilled" in the Hollow Knight, when the Pale King dared to look at his child and his child looked back. He loved his child and the child loved him, and that love doomed the kingdom. The King would have filled the path to that memory with blades and thorns to discourage himself from ever revisiting it. In the early concept of the game, the Pale King was still alive and wandering around the palace. I wonder what he would have had to say?

This is the type of music I imagine would play in an emotional flashback scene in a Pixar/Dreamworks movie.

God, I just randomly remembered the Meatboy nightmare that was this area. It was fun though, I look back at the memories I’ve had with the White Palace with a smile

i don't think they could've picked a better song to put in the credits

I still absolutely love hearing it after beating the game. This song contains the King's letimotif, so hearing it after Dream No More, when you free his kingdom, is so so emotional and fitting.
I still sometimes come back and listen to this, just a beautiful piece of music

This is a calming experience. This kept me sane on white palace, and keeps me sane on life. Thank you team cherry, for creating hollow knight. This game made my life actually stable.

One of the most beautiful areas I’d ever *saw*. (Sucky grammar aside, I consider my pun pretty *cutting edge*.)

I managed to clear this on my first playthrough without realizing I could pogo jump on saw blades and spears >.

Is that possible? 😨
@TheSonoranSniper10 ай бұрын
@@az-cv1ql I made a new file just to test this it is possible but I personally found it way more annoying than to just pogo stuff

Which spike trap was your least favorite?!!!!For me it was the one that required well timed dashes.(The one horizontal one with the spikes popping out of the ground)

Idk why but that one gave me more trouble then path of pain itself

I love this『White Palace』, what a touching song.

Personally, I thought the path of pain was fun. I made it through just fine and boy finally reaching the end felt amazing. Would recommend trying it to anyone who has the patience to get through it lol.
@Im-LittleSheep Жыл бұрын
Funny thing is, is that because I spent so much time trying to complete the path of pain, i had practically memorized it. So when it was my 2nd time playing the game I managed to get through the path of pain just fine, but for the actual white palace I struggled lmao
