The palace was never designed to be lived in. The buzzsaws, the spikes, the thorns... all there on purpose. To make the Hollow Knight the best warrior, to feel uncomfortable, to see the world in the harshest light, to become as hollow as possible. But even then, the Hollow Knight called the palace home. Known a father that loved him, even as they knew that their end was coming. That kindness that wouldn't break damned them. Burning, breathtaking, maddening. I came back 10 minutes after, feeling incomprehencible urge to complete it, and so I went on for another 2 hours of sycophantic buzzing of saws and eardrum-hurting accords, and through sheer perseverance I came victorious. This game really hits you so hard in the feels. I mean every character in it is adorable, you can also sit and listen to the beautiful song of Marissa, give the flower to the Elderbug, sit with Quirrel, then there's the Old Stag, biggest cinnamon bun ever, and of course poor Myla... And you can't help but feel bad for your character but at the same time you want to save those sweet bugs. :(

Story time: I was under a lot of pressure from a big test so I took a "small" break and decided to try path of pain. I spent around 3 hours suffering death after death (Thankfully the music made it better), when I finished it my hands where shaking and took nap from the mental fatigue. One of the public services came to cut the grass and bushes of the public park using the brush cutters that sound like chainsaws while I slept and when I heard the sound of multiple chainsaws I woke up with the biggest P.T.S. ever. I absolutely love this game made me completely terrified of the sound of chainsaws

I have to say, the music is absolutely beautiful... Once you get to hear it without the constant buzzing of saws and the jarring noises of retracting spikes. Also the background perfectly captures my emotions after half an hour of trying. Then I promptly turned around and woved to 'git gud' before leaving to get my ass kicked my NKG instead.

What I particularly think is cool about path of pain is that if you want to beat it, you can't give in to anger, it will make you brash and cause you to make silly mistakes, optimism or hopelesness won't help you either. You must focus on the obstacles, in other words, you must BECOME hollow. Focus on nothing, do not think, do not speak, do not feel, and you will beat path of pain. Exactly how the game wants you to be.

the moment the hollow knight looked to ghost as he hung to the exit to the abyss was a sign he was flawed. the fact we see the hollow knight once more looking at something, this time its progenitor, cemented this fact more, for it showed that it had a mind to think. something the pale king was not looking for. this was why hallownest was doomed from this moment and beyond.

The young HK looking back at you in the flashback sequence is not a proof a a flaw in my opinion. It just shows it is aware of its surroundings. The White Lady says the HK was flawed, corrupted by "an idea instilled". Furthermore, a cut Dreamnail dialogue for the HK in its boss encounter is : "... Father ?". Also, after seeing the cutscene here, we can see the entry for the Seal of Binding in the Hunter's journal, which states it is meant to "contain a powerful force, or to preserve something of great importance". It is also present at the very beginning of the Path of Pain. I think that thing of great importance is this very memory the Pale King has with the HK. I also think this moment is the inception of that "idea instilled" : that the Hollow Knight is part of a family. In the end, the King had so much remorse over killing thousands - no, millions - of his creations, his children, that he could not bear bringing his "chosen son" be sacrificed without having had a life before, maybe his only chance to be, for once, a father. There is so much tragedy in the characters of the Pale King and Hollow Knight, I find it one of the saddest story ever put in a video game :'(

I lost my sanity during path of pain. When I defeated the guardians at the end having only 2 hp left I was hyperventylating becouse I was so afraid all my progress, 3 hours of dashing, jumping, nailing, cursing, crying would go away in an instant. I made moved that I din't belive I would ever do, moved in rythm with saws, nail jumped more times than I hit enemies in game and essentially broke my own limits in this game, just to land in the end between 2 guards and lose almost all my hp intantly. I killed one guard with soul bursts but the other was still there almost untouched. I fought slowly having low hp, trying to get into guardian pattern and when I finally struck him down, tears ran down my face.I was broken on the inside, but at the same time filled with joy and pride. I completed path of pain. Many given up, many didn't even try, only few had dedication, resolve, *DETERMINATION* to despite the fails, missed jumps, bad rng and timing achieve the victory. And yet here I am. And so are you. Congratulations. *Path of pain changes man.*

Ha, just 3 hours? i had the game open for over 24 hours because i was afraid to lose my progress. I switch to the game every once in a while to try for 30 mins to 1 hs. in real game time it took me around 4/5 hoursbut i suffer for over a day.

I feel you so much, It took me 5-6h non stop hour with surely 3 or 2 hours ALONE in the last corridor. I also cried lol at the end (and even more because THK is my fav chara in the game, best boi all the way, Hallownest doesn't deserve him and sur the PK didn't either. (tho no hate PK was trying to do good) It was totally worth it for 2sec cutscene with him in it.

I'm almost 30. I have bought this game on Switch and PS4 because I love the music, tone, and character design. Problem is I am burnt out on most games now, and only like playing extremely relaxing games or very familiar games. I am also almost 30 and it took me several hours of running the path of pain to do it fast enough to put together this video. I did it because I wanted the feeling of mastery from overcoming something difficult and because I *really* wanted to immortalize this song for myself and others since this version wasn't in the OST. People play games for different reasons but at the end of the day, playing games should be fun. If those are the types of games you have fun with, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I'll be 30 in May and while this game is unquestionably a treasure I just don't have it in me to 100+% it like younger me would have. I beat Path of Pain and vanilla NKG but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend so much time getting all the Radiant boss victories in the pantheon. I got some of them but others just don't seem worth it, like at some point I just want to be productive elsewhere - even if it's elsewhere in the game itself - and not constantly die. haha Related note: The fact that people speedrun doing EVERYTHING in the game is actually crazy to me.
