Spore shrooms works in the arena really well. You're healing so much, and so quickly, with so many enemies around you, that it does serve as a bit of a breather when you damage multiple enemies at ounce.

I've always thought of the colosseum as merely a test of if you know how to kill things in different environments. The 2nd and 3rd trials completely remove your ability to use the floor. You have to mantis claw (wall jump) on the walls the entire time. You cannot heal, unless you fall onto the spikes, heal super quickly before the respawn platform disappears, and jump to a wall. but at that point you could just focus on not falling in the first place and not lose time and soul. Since the closest you get to flying is pogo'ing off of enemies and using the monarch wings (double jump), it's super fast-paced, and you're very limited. Luckily if you're good at optimizing shadow dashes and your 2 available spells (slam attack won't work... no floor), you can survive. In trial 2 when you get stuck in a very vertical, not very horizontal room against the.. spider thingy that jumps high super fast, you have to know to hit, dash to where it was when it jumped, turn around and repeat. When you fight the dashing flies on a single platform with no floor, you HAVE to pogo off of them or take serious damage. In trial 3 you have a garpede dancing session (if you didn't know or remember, you have 4 platforms stacked on top of each other with no floor at the bottom, while indestructable enemies that are big enough to fill the space between each platform move in from different directions at different times) TWICE, the second time coming from above while you have very little horizontal space and no advance of going vertical. You literally have to dodge slow, huge bullets. My very long point is that the colosseum doesn't have many enemies at a time, at most maybe 5 and they take too long for Spore shrooms charm to kill them. Its a test of knowledge and skill, not swarm handling

lemme tell you one way that I've found glowing womb to be genuinely useful: staggering bosses. those extra hits don't do a ton of damage, but they still count towards stagger which can help if a boss is just blitzing you over and over then while u try to heal one of them spawns and immediately breaks the stagger

I did that with Grey Prince Zote by accident. The extra damage was great, until he got staggered and I needed to heal. Instead, my Soul gauge gets drained, and the kamikaze baby hits GPZ and he gets up and finishes clapping me.

I think several charms are meant to be used more for synergies. Such as spore shroom, it’s not that good on it’s own, but if combined with certain charms you can increase it’s damage and radius. Hell, some even have visual interactions with each-other.

I feel like Deep Focus is really underrated. It effectively cuts the amount of soul you need to collect for healing in half. The slow heal speed makes it really bad in boss fights, but it's great for traversing long areas where there's a lot of down time between enemies.

Also, Grubsong+Weaversong *is* a decent way to get a reliable source of soul, especially if you add Sprintmaster to make the grubs move faster. 4 notches for constant damage and Soul is kinda useful. Not the best in every case, but useful.

I also used another charm from this video, grimmchild bcs it was good at taking out mini soul masters and also at that one part where the floor turns to spike since you are too busy clinging for your life to deal with the bugs.

Hiveblood is okay in White Palace/Path of Pain, but having to sit and wait for that hp to recharge every single time you fuck up is obnoxious. The better build is Deep Focus, Grubsong, and Grubberfly's Elegy. With this combo, every hit you take gives you more than enough soul to heal that hit, so you effectively have infinite health.

I used hiveblood and grubsong, it would fill up 1 while I was trying again and if I died while it was filling I'd heal 2 slots with the built up soul, got me through path of pain with almost no waiting and allowed me to keep mark of pride and quickslash. Never used hiveblood outside white palace but it's my go to for that part of the game.

I found the Defenders Crest extremely useful, especially if I was dealing with a caged in situation. The only problem I have with it is that sometimes in boss fights, the particles make it hard to see the attacks. Wouldn’t recommend for very fast pace bosses or bosses you never get close to like Pure Vessel or Marmu.

IKR, i believe i reached mid game and the shellspore combo still works amazingly for me. It helped me with almost every boss and challenge. It also helped me with early game greenpath farming.

I don't see why it's bad. He said it's bad against ranged enemies then showed a clip of the lil flying bag of shit that shoots three bullets. I haven't finished the game yet but it's gotta be one of the most annoying ranged enemies. For some reason the projectiles are always at the same height I jump. That enemy is the most lethal at close range, there's no room to dodge the bullets. Heavy blow pushes that fucker back and gives you breathing room, you can time it so he shoots when he's further away. I've noticed it's almost like crowd control, you can position enemies according to threat level. If I'm fighting two enemies I'll bounce one out of the way so I can focus the other one. What's more is you can spirit dash through an attacking enemy, push him from the back then dash forward again. That's effectively parrying, counterattacking and creating distance for your next move. I think the colosseum shows how effective it can be. Being able to position enemies means you can adapt to the environment. That charm has my vote for most underrated.

Maybe if you can't shadow dash through them. I used heavy blow for a while on pure vessel because I wanted to stagger him faster. Thing is heavy blow is a static reduction of minus one hit, but you have to provide those hits still. You can take something like sharp shadow, or quick slash and get in multiple hits over the course of the battle. It's just more efficient at that point because you're doing more damage to the boss while providing more hits to stagger him.

I actually do find Grimmchild to be pretty helpful when he's required. The Grimmkins can be difficult to hit sometimes, and the Grimmchild can hit them when you can't get to them before they teleport somewhere else.

Spore shroom is pretty harshly criticized in this but I found it outperformed its one notch cost. Since a shitload of bosses have a charge-at-you attack, you can heal, jump out of the way, and they continue right into the cloud. The chip damage builds up over time.

glowing womb can be useful for players who just simply don’t use spells often, because for the soul cost of one spell it outputs 74 damage, which is almost equal to a dive, almost twice as good as shade soul with shaman stone, and just as good as an abyss shriek which misses twice, i don’t use it but i see the uses of it

Hiveblood can be useful depending on your fighting style. If you are quite good at dodging but bad at finding the position and moment to heal safely, hiveblood is helpful to forget about healing, focus on the fight and have all your soul for spells. After trying many builds, hiveblood was part of my build when I defeated some bosses for the first time, like Traitor Lord, God Tamer or even NKG. It just suits my fighting style. I understand it doesn't suit others, though. The same way having a longer nail doesn't have a big positive impact for me so I rather keep my notches for other charms, whereas I know people who are glad to spend 5 notches on a larger nail, as the advantage suits their fighting style. To each their own I guess?

I've heard a longer nail is pretty helpful with the pogo. I struggle with pogo, especially if I have to move forward while doing it & I've noticed it does help a bit. I imagine if you're pretty good with moving while having to also repeatedly pogo then it's probably even more useful. But I definitely noticed a difference when I didn't use anything to increase the length of the nail.

the secret with weaver song/grub song is that it also gives 3 soul on things that dont give soul. like grimm/pure vessel's spears that come from the ground, collector for whatever reason, etc. basically the combo kinda relies on big boss battles with lots and lots of hitboxes for the weaverlings to randomly smack, and in some fights, like the grimm fights, almost every attack can give you soul, and its almost like having a 3 notch kingsoul that actually carries weight when you want it to.

Heavy blow is actually insanely useful if you’re traveling through the infected crossroads. It actually knocks infected vengeflys far enough back that they can’t hit you before you knock them back again, meaning you almost never get hit by them as long as you see them before they see you.

@@bruh6237 No need to every charm has its use. Infact let me show you the use of each of these charms that were listed. Deepfocus: Great for exploring and as long as you dont fight a fast boss you should be able to find time to heal. And even when you use 7 notches with quickfocus together you become a god of self healing. Thats enough to bruteforce your way through many fights and challenges Sprintmaster: It allows you to travel faster and close the gaps between you and the enemy. Combo it with weaver song and you have rather good companions for midgame. Together with dashmaster you become a speeddemon. Its just one notch but it can go long ways. Spore Shroom: A solid Early game charm and good for more healing oriented builds. The AOE surely wont keep up with a assault of Nailstrikes but lets be honest in your first playthrough you have no clue how half the enemys function so its unlikly that you can slash your way through everything without trouble. It makes new encounters less punishing for just one notch. Hive Blood: Great for exploring and people that want to use soul for offensiv spells. As long as you good a dodging this charm gets the job done of keeping you healthy Weaver Song: As I mentioned they are solid companions for the midgame and while you have trouble figuring out how enemys work these spiders do the work for you. No one is born a master. Nuff said Grimmchild: A Powerfull charm for the Midgame. When you access the Grimm Troupe as early as possibel you have a follower that pretty much does just as much damage as you do. Until you have the pure nail and knowledge on how enemys work this charm will stay Solid. Kingsoul: Beyond good for exploring... if only you hadnt explored everything at that point. Even then its free soul for spells and healing. Carefree Melody: As inconsistent as it is it truly is a gamble but lets be honest all you need is sometimes the fortune of lady luck. Blocking damage is actually Amazing beyond Amazing. Its incredibly strong for late game content when you go up against White Defender or Zote when they start doing more then 2 Mask of damage. Infact it can block damage from Radiant Bosses. You know a boss you are supose to beat with No Hit? Beeing allowed to take a hit in such a battle is bloody broken and something thats worth 7 charmslots on its own. Glowing Womb: Great for players that want to deal passiv damage but are bad at using spells and dont want to bother with healing. Basicly the players that will also use hiveblood. Heavy Blows: Great for midgame for those that are fans of Nailarts. It bashes enemys far enough back to charge the next slash.

Mhm. Deep Focus is a good charm because it allows you to heal much more efficiently, and promotes out-of-combat healing. Healing in Hollow Knight, at least in combat, is dangerous and inefficient (especially compared to casting a spell), so saving resources between combat-heavy rooms and bosses is a sound investment.

YES! i used it for broken vessel. i was having a ton of trouble and decided to use quick focus, spore shroom, thorns of agony, and grubsong. i won. i had a single nail upgrade too. have learned my lesson on nail upgrades

it is actually good in other cases. it's good for killing approaching or hard to reach enemies, and it's good for doing a little bit of extra damage against bosses.

1. deep focus helps if you are bad at making your way through the game other than bosses, and can help in some bosses if you use quick focus+shape of unn(the unn gets double speed) 2. sprintmaster helps if you’re having trouble with xero, but that’s an unlikely scenario. it’s also good if you only have 1 free notch left on your normal build(for when you’re not in a boss fight) 3. spore shroom can be used to speed up the process of cheesing some bosses, like gruz mother or crystal guardian 4. weaversong can be used to cheese some bosses by holding the crystal heart button on the top-right corner of the room 5. grimmchild in that area is used as a limiter, it makes your build worse on purpose by limiting your charm slots 6. kingsoul can be used as a makeshift salubra’s blessing 7. if you use weaversong+grubsong, you can enhance your cheese builds with glowing womb 8. those big infected vengeflies can be killed while you stand still while spamming the nail attack with heavy blow, which can help if you need more geo in midgame and the only place you can think of is the area near salubra’s hut. also, it can be used to juggle some enemies edit: just now, i beat the radiant massive moss charger after having trouble and i used this video as a guide. i had unbreakable strength, quick slash, mark of pride, steady body, and heavy blow edit 2: hiveblood is the best charm in the game, especially against markoth, people are afraid of the Truth

I get what your saying with deep focus, but with grubsong it basically makes invincible during platforming, because it uses the same amount of soul as healing one mask without it. And in places like the white palace having this makes it incredibly easy

I love how weaversong + grubsong + dashmaster gives more soul then kingsoul and not only costs one less slot but also gives you other passive abilities like damage, regenerating soul when hit, and faster movement speed

@@RushWheeler and only needs 1 notch. In German the Dashmaster is called Sprintmaster and the Sprintmaster is called Walkmaster. So for me as a German it was double confusing, because I love watching English/American vids 🤗❤️ to be honest, it's still confusing me!!! 😂

In defence of all these charms: Deep Focus: Can be useful in places like deepnest where Soul is limited, spikes are plentiful, and you have lots of time to heal. Just don’t try to use this is a boss fight. Also a key component to the infinite healing combo Sprintmaster: I guess you could use it if you need to get from place to place quicker, but we all know that it’s only ever used with Weaversong, with which it is actually pretty good. Spore Shroom: I actually used this quite a lot in the early game when I was gonna do a boss fight and needed a one slot charm to replace my Wayward Compass. Honestly this charm is underrated, way better than Thorns of Agony. Also it can be good agains Broken Vessel if you haven’t beaten dung defender yet. Hiveblood: very useful in platforming segments, assuming you don’t have Grubberfly’s Elegy to make the infinite healing combo. I guess you could also use it to fight that one Grimmkin in the hive without getting pestered by bees? Weaversong: this charm is actually kinda good with Grubsong and Sprintmaster. Can be useful for the Flower quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies, and for cheesing Failed Champion and Lost Kin. Grimmchild: you need this charm to fight Grimm and NKG, so it’s automatically useful. Other than that, it can be surprisingly useful for targets that are hard to hit with your nail. You have to use it for the Grimmkin, but I have to admit it got in twice as many hits in as I did. Can be useful for the Flower Quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies, and Cheesing the Lost Kin and Failed Champion Kingsoul: Necessary for the true ending. I guess you could also use it with Glowing Womb to get infinite suicide bugs, but that doesn’t seem like a good use of 7 charm slots. Other than that. You could also equip it before a boss fight, get your soul to full and then change it for a different charm before the boss, but that would take a very long time. Carefree Melody: I think you can actually get hit a bunch intentionally before a Radiant fight so you can take 2 hits. That seems pretty useful but time consuming to me Glowing Womb: Is good for Cheesing the Failed Champion and lost kin. Can also be useful for the Flower quest, where you don’t want to get near enemies. Heavy Blow: if you struggle with the Massive Moss Charger (???) then you can use this for basically a free win (if it wasn’t already free). On top of that, you need it for Salaubra’s blessing, so it’s useful for that. Aside from that I got nothing, why does this charm exist

Heavy blow helps you stagger bosses more quickly, so it's good against bosses where the only time you can heal is when they're staggered.

@@sandsalamand3763 most bosses have a stagger limit, and if you stagger them too quickly you will probably be at full health white they are staggered, wasting a stagger

Sprintmaster combined with the shape of Unn makes you slug so much faster it's insane how many heals you can pull out while dodging everything. You are almost twice as fast as your normal running speed.

Deep Focus is really useful for the parkour in White Palace. It allows you to heal more for the same amount of Soul and the time doesn't matter
