Camera recentre and manual reload were features that I couldn't get working quite right in time for the demo but rest assured these will be featured of the final release along with a quick-turn ability and a few other requested QoL features. Thanks again! 🙌

One thing I really like about these indie games is they usually perform very well. I have a 3060 graphics card, and I can never hit 165fps with modern AAA games. Often I can barely hit 60FPS. So I only play indie or old AAA games. If I can't reach at least 120fps, I'm not interested. And to think I used to be a console peasant who used to play games than ran at 30fps. I never did get used to that. I always hated it; and low framerate is the sole reason I gave up on the consoles and joined the PC master race.

Its kind of sad to be honest, because can you imagine a modern big budget classic survival horror game like resident evil 1 remake? @underthemayo I can't comment on what changes the dev made after updates to the demo, but I can tell you that you can reload outside of the menu by aiming and then pressing the reload button. It could be that the reload button isn't assigned an input by default, since I know I went into the settings menu and assigned reload to one of the shoulder/trigger buttons, so this would explain why despite you pressing everything, nothing happened.

I wasn't as positive on it. I liked the camera and the combat, for the most part (though as you mentioned, it's lacking some key features) and the safe puzzle was really nice, considering the stuff we usually get in games, but i found the overall style a bit too generic and derivative, and with very little happening in the demo to stand out. It's also too meandering, even after you enter the apartment complex, with a lot of same-y rooms with one detail at best to set them apart. If i compare it to the demo of Alisa, for example, that was incredibly dense with visual details and peculiar things, that made it instantly memorable, so i hope in the final game, they tighten things up in terms of pacing and density.
@underthemayo11 ай бұрын
I think that's fair. But I think there's a lot of room for it to expand. Imagine if you only saw the apartments of Silent Hill 2. It's a lot of samey looking rooms too.
@tetrorisvolto11 ай бұрын
@@underthemayo Yeah i was thinking of a point of comparison like that, but i think a difference would be that, as far as i remember, the rooms in Silent Hill 2 usually revolve around a thematic gimmick (the room with the shopping cart has all those bullet holes and you find the gun in it, the room with the moths has all those cages/terrariums and there's the hole with implied insects crawling in it, and so on) though not every single room is exactly memorable, especially in the Hospital, there tend to be more of a thematic design, that helps give them a personality. So i think they could push that aspect more. I think the room with the hammer and the one with the safe puzzle are positive examples.

I really miss 2d games. 2.5d games. 3d slash 2d sprites. There is a vast array of art styles and game designs that are not being utilized anymore. We really should look at previous game generations for inspiration. Then we can blend it or put our own spin on it with all of our advancements and capabilities we now have. We shouldn't think every game needs to have this clean repetitive graphics approach.. We can and should have a vast array of different game designs, art styles, game genres.
@aaronwright689111 ай бұрын
I wish all games in this style offered modern controls. I am dyslexic, and I want to enjoy tank controls, but they break my brain. I have even had sessions where I spent an hour or so just trying to get a handle of movement.
@12ealDealOfficial11 ай бұрын
The best way to learn tank controls is with a PS1 armored core game. Movement is slow and the camera stays on the player. Games where camera angles change aren't all created equal though. If you hold one direction and you continue to hold that direction when the angles change, your character should still be moving that direction, but from the character's perspective. Some western developed games change this so the camera angles change then changes your input, so up for your character changes to up on the screen. So in-game, you might be moving west on one screen but north on the next, which doesn't make sense from a gameplay perspective. I like tank controls because your movement isn't tied to where you might want your character to look. Like driving a car or walking, you can turn your head in one direction while you move another.
@aaronwright689111 ай бұрын
@12ealDealOfficial I appreciate the thorough response. The thing is, using left and right to turn is not the problem. I completed RE4 with no problems, and that uses tank controls. The problem is the fixed perspective and tank controls. With dyslexia if I am, for instance, facing the camera, it takes too long for my brain to process that left and right are flipped.
@12ealDealOfficial11 ай бұрын
@@aaronwright6891 Oh, I see. Games with a lot of backtracking with camera changes would be good for you then, IF you want to practice. RE3: Nemesis and Parasite Eve 2 are a couple of my favorites. RE3 had tank controls with pre-rendered backgrounds down to a science. FFX is also tank controls for exploration with big sweeping camera changes so there's no stress to it.

My biggest issue with the fixed camera style is that it inherently imposes great limitations on combat in comparison to over the shoulder camera where you can actively control your gun. In fixed camera, the combat options that remain are either swapping weapons or limiting the ammo available to the player. You could argue that this is a not a bug, it is a feature but I still think fixed angle style could get worn out really fast.
@underthemayo11 ай бұрын
I'm working on a video specifically about this. It's about what you value. In survival horror I value artistic visions and cinematography over combat control. These games were never about amazing combat. The focus was exploration, puzzles, decision making, resource management, inventory management, and combat avoidance when possible. And then the visual art took it to a new level of cinematic immersion. Sure, we can freely look around and have strategic precision combat, but we've lost the visual art and all the games look and feel the same now.
