In the (almost) 50 years that China>Rider has been a song combination, just floating around, looking for musicians... Nobody has performed it with the love, feeling and improvisation that Holly brings. The music chose her wisely! 😍

Just stumbled on to this and am wonderfully flabbergasted. The quiet hard notes to the rolls (what I call them) are sweet. You’ve made them your tunes! Headlight on a northbound train indeed.

So I came back today, had to see it again! As I watched you Holly, I noticed the joy that you have when you play, it is so great! The way your fingers roll over the notes, its like poetry! I really think your gonna have a great future, you belong there, you are one of them, as Philip Glass, Leszek Mozdzer, and Juya Wang. Thank you so much!

Oh my god, I guess this is what Phil is always talking about being there to serve the music, very innovative plus I hear a massive amount of Garcia runs esp in rider. Please support this talent and more will follow and who knows to what hights we can reach

this chick is annoying. nice person i suppose but just another millennial phish fan bastardizing grateful dead. i don't understand the obsession w GD from these phish fans. they have no connection to GD music and if they get off on lizard songs and trampolines there is no way in hell they truly understand grateful dead music. big thumbs down!
@josephpestka43515 жыл бұрын
@@guywoodhouse4684 This may be my third comment ever on KZbin...but man, what happened to you? Who has hurt you? This 'chick' has incredible talent (just guessing, a ton more that you) and is doing something she loves. People like it. I assume by your comment that you love the Dead and Jerry; so, what do you think the guys would say about it? I know they would love it.
@guywoodhouse46845 жыл бұрын
@@josephpestka4351 yes, she is talented of course. i play piano too. not as well as she does. of course the writers of this music would be flattered. i just find it gross that her and a lot of other people in the "jam band" world play dead songs. they were too young to have seen them. IF some of them had seen them it was in the 90's when they were awful, Jerry was clearly not into it and/or dying on stage and they were playing classic rock covers in stadiums. in short - they never saw the real Grateful Dead. So why do they play this music? I don't get it. I saw this Billy Strings kid playing China Doll & I Know You Rider. And Holly...they ALL like the GD? Or is it some rite of passage that they must play these songs and pretend they were influenced by them? I saw another lame jamband doing Mississippi 1/2 Step. The guys weren't even born when Jerry died. They get to the chorus and start playing it w a reggae beat. WTF. Why? I'm not saying they should cover the songs note for note. I understand a cover is to put one's spin on the song, but these guys just bastardize the music. The song means ZERO when they play it. Same for "Billy Strings" and yes, same for Holly. I saw an interview where she said she saw phish 300 times. Was she a phish fan that discovered the dead? So, let me get this straight..she likes phish music enough to perform it and see them 300 times. The progressive stuff, the hardrock stuff, the pseudo funk and the "peaking" stuff AND she is equally moved by GD music? The music is 180 degrees opposite from each other. It is only phish fans and musicians that do GD music AND phish music. And they are all too young to have grown up buying, seeing, traveling to it etc. But deadheads do not play or like phish music. It's just a strange fixation and it pisses people off.
@guywoodhouse46844 жыл бұрын
@@janicejohnson6438 lol sorry. not a fan of a millennial phish fans pretending to be a dead head..seeing phish 300 times AND understanding GD music> yeah.i dont think so..she should stick to the lame phish tunes if that what she likes.
@lamthaihuynguyen32034 жыл бұрын
@@guywoodhouse4684 your argument makes absolutely no sense. People do what they like, this is a perfectly good rendition of the tune and it is good as it is, another perspective. It's like saying musicians are disgusting for playing Mozart because they weren't alive when he wrote and performed it. You just need to chill and let people do what they want man, opinions or not, yours is full on being a dickhead.
